Hi guys, I'm returning to Necromunda; the last time I played was when the game still had a box set. Now, we're using the Yak Tribe's Necromunda Community Edition, so things may have changed. My list:

1 Leader w/ Lasgun
2 Heavies w/ Heavy Stubbers
6 Gangers w/ Lasguns

Points So Far: 955

This was what I remembered back then, from people who played by converting their own minis instead of using the official boxed sets. It was Lasgun spam and Heavy Stubbers that was very effective then.

Is that still the way it is? Most of my choices here are based on model availability and sticking to WYSIWYG discipline; I got Catachans to paint as Orlocks, with Lasguns and Heavy Stubber proxies, plus other bits.

Thanks in advance, guys.

In my group it was greands galore and swords, lots of swords.

It really depends on how much terrain you use for which is best.

Not familiar with the ruleset you describe, but in the games I played, you're spot on.

What makes the Lasgun and Heavy Stubber king is the excellent ammo roll. Autoguns basically do the same damage but are more prone to running out of ammo which is especially a problem with most of the time you're hitting on 6's anyway. As for the Heavy Bolter, it's got many of the qualities of the Heavy Stubber and better strength, but again, it's a little bit overkill. Wounding on a 2+ isn't as good as wounding on a 3+ with a much better ammo roll. However, I'd argue that once your gang is suitably buffed up, a better option might be Heavy Bolter + Ammo Reload since you can afford to blow one ammo roll, and you'll probably be pasting anything you shoot at anyway.

In addition, the more damaging weapons seem like overkill considering that a pinned (i.e., hit model) is pretty much screwed anyway since it's sitting out in the open. Incapacitation is the name of the game.

Now, late game this changes a bit. If you've got an Escher player in your league, you're going to have issues with chicks moving like 20" in a turn, some of which ignores terrain. At that point, you'll benefit from adding pistols to your guys for the up close accuracy bonuses.

That doesn't look like much fun to play with or against.

I suggest you swap all those lasguns for autoguns (because they're way cheaper and more fun), get some shotguns in there, as well as some Juves running around with Autopistols.

And your Leader DESERVES a Special Weapon, Chainsword and an Autopistol.
Meltagun for scaring people or a Plasma gun for proper shootiness.

Thanks for your suggestions. I'm considering what you guys mentioned and I think they're good ideas. I am going to see how I can get those those items as I want to maintain WYSIWYG discipline.

it depends on if you are going all out waac or all just in it for the fun?
something i saw one group do to prevent waac gangs was limit no more than 1 of each heavy weapon and no more than 3 of each basic

If everyone has a Lasgun, they aren't Orlocks but Imperial Guardsmen.

To make Lasguns into Auto-guns just cut off the Las-gun barrels. Also, I think the Catachan boxset came with a few shotguns, but I might be mistaken.
