Just come across this kickstarter project – Hungarian Tanks in 1/56 scale.

The campaign started at 1:30 pm (BST) today and has already passed its funding goal of £1,000 GBP, and it runs until 3rd October.

The first two stretch goals have been unlocked already, the Tuland II -Turan upgrade (at £1,200) and the 38M Botond Truck (at £1,500) and the kickstarter is only 6 1/2 hours old.

Thought this may be of interest to some on here.

Seven stretch goals already unlocked!!!!

This could be one of those 'sleeper' kickstarters that come out of nowhere to surprise everyone with their popularity.

These look great and seem pretty rare otherwise. Very tempting stuff, I must say!

The kickstarter has reached £3,376 already, and all but 2 of the original stretch goals have been achieved including all the vehicles and tanks. Bob has said that new stretch goals will be announced soon. Next stretch goals are at £3,700 and £4,000 - so they will be likely be unlocked soon as well.

There are now just 2 'Early Bird - Select a Company' (any 10 vehicles) left. Doubt whether these will last long.

I am down for the '3 of each' pledge.

Started off though as an 'Early Bird - Select a Company' (only one of these left by the way).

@Manchu - You can 'add-on' to any levels thank goodness.

The Flak tank crews have been unlocked at £3,700.

Next stretch goal is at £4,000 (just £233 away) and is the upgrade for all Platoon and Company level pledges of will come with a set of tank crew figures. In addition every 38M Botond and 41M Raba Ari will come with a driver figure.

All the 'Early Bird - Select a Company' have now gone.

There are other 'Early Bird' levels available but the 'Early Bird - Select a Company' seems to have been the sweet spot.

Yesterday saw all the original stretch goals unlocked, and 3 new stretch goals announced. These are:

- £4,500 - Toldi III Upgrade.

All Light Tank pledges come with Toldi spaced armour. 'Select a Tank' pledges gain the Toldi III option.

- £5,000 - Hungarian Tank Ace Upgrade.

All 'Company (and above) level pledges' come with a free Ervin Tarczany figure.

- £5,500 - Finnish Flak Upgrade.

All Nimrod pledges can replace the Nimrod turret with a Landsverk L-62 turret for free or add it as an additional turret for +£4. Select a tank pledges gain the Landsverk L-62 option.

Well at the time of writing this the Toldi III upgrade is only £4 away!

The Landsverk L-62 is great news for those who have Finnish armies, a real plus to their composition.

..............................................................

Quick update - no surprise here but the Toldi III upgrade (space armour) has been unlocked.

The figure of the Hungarian knighted tank ace Ervin Tarczay has just been unlocked.

Next is the Finnish Landsverk L-62 turret for the Nimrod at £5,500. This will undoubtedly prove to be a draw to many gamers fighting the Russian - Finnish wars.

This is the last of the present stretch goals announced and I assume Bob will announce some more tomorrow.

I'll be keeping an eye on this, but I'm hesitant to pledge. I already have a mountain of stuff that I'm waiting on from another kickstarter, A full US Ranger Platoon, a large selection of German stuff, and Jap and Marine figures that I need to paint up for 28mm.

There's still 25 days to go, so I have time to make up my mind. Might get a Zrinyi II just because its one of my all time favorite tank designs, just as something to paint. It's like $33 American before shipping, but if I see a deal that piques my interest I might change my mind.

Just found out that another company will soon be running a kickstarter for 28mm WWII Hungarian and Romanian infantry (and other Balkan nations), this would really sit in well with the tanks and vehicles in Bolt Action and CoC games.

Well overnight the Landsverk L-62 was unlocked, that is all the current stretch goals unlocked. (I wonder if Bob actually thought it would happen?)

There are still some various 'Early Bird' pledges available, although these are limited of course. Just over 25 days remaining of this KS.

Bob has a little while ago said he will be putting up new stretch goals this Wednesday. He plans for:

- Prototype Hungarian tanks (which could be interesting in their own right not only to wargamers but to AFV model collectors)

- Some adversary tanks/vehicles (?)

One important announcement was that Bob will be shipping in 'Backer number order' (which I wish all kickstarter campaigns adhered to), so it makes sense for potential backers to place a holding pledge in as early as possible which they can then adjust later.

Bob has just announced the next 3 stretch goals and more.

Update # 5

- £7,000 - 44M TAS
'Select a Tank' pledges gain the 44M TAS option (+£2 per tank)
Heavy Tank Pledge = £22
Heavy Tank Section (3 tanks) = £60
Heavy Tank Platoon (5 tanks) = £100

- £7,500 - Szebeny's Heavy Flak upgrade for the Nimrod
All Nimrod pledges gain one 80mm Nimrod turret for free. 'Select a Tank' pledges gain the 80mm option.

- £8,500 - 44M TAS Rohamloveg
Tank Hunter Pledge = £22
Tank Hunter Section (3 tanks) = £60
Tank Hunter Platoon (5 tanks) = £100

The 44m Tas was intended to be Hungary's Panther equivalent as Hungarian production facilities were not advanced enough to produce the Panther domestically. The 44m Tas series never saw active service, but the tank variant can be used as a substitute for a Panther, while the Tas Rohamloveg is a good substitute for a Jagdpanther.

The next set of stretch goals will be aimed at broadening this project to cover other Balkans nations, followed by a small amount of support for the main opposition, and finally a return to Hungarians for the home straight.

These future stretch goals are being carefully planned so they do not overly affect the delivery schedule, and many of the items are ones were I have already started (or even completed) the design work.

.........................................................

Think we are about to see a whole leap in new backers. At time of posting pledge total was already £6,109 GBP, so less than £900 GBP to unlock the next stretch.

Just remember Bob has already announced that orders will be despatched in 'Backer number order', so those who back early on get their pledge rewards before those who back later. (And that is the way it should be IMO.)

The majority of models (so far) on the KickStart are for a Hungarian force, but there is also support for Romania and Russia. However, I am not sure that there has been a simple list of what is on offer here. So here is one :-)

Hungarian Toldi I/II light tank
Hungarian Toldi IIa/III light tank
Hungarian Turan I medium tank
Hungarian Turan II medium tank
Hungarian Turan III medium tank (prototype)
Hungarian Zrinyi I AT assualt gun (prototype)
Hungarian Zrinyi II infantry support assault gun
Hungarian Nimrod AT / Flak SPG
Hungarian Nimrod 80mm AT SPG (prototype)
Hungarian 38M Botond truck
Hungarian 41M Raba Ari tow truck
Hungarian 39M Csaba armoured car
Hungarian 40M Csaba armoured car
Hungarian 44M TAS heavy tank (prototype)
Hungarian 44M TAS Rohamloveg assault gun (prototype)
Romanian Tacam R-2 SPG
Czech/Romanian LT vz 35 / Panzer 35(t) light tank
French/Romanian Renault UE Chenillete artillery tow
Russian ZIS 6 truck
Russian ZIS-42M half-track
Russian Katyusha rocket launcher truck
Finnish/Swedish Landsverk L-62 Flak SPG

As well as the listed countries, many of these AFVs were used elsewhere in the Balkans/Eastern Front or the rest of the world.

A great KickStarter with a wealth of vehicles, all reasonably priced. With options and crew available on selected models. A must have for a Hungarian force and a great place for that unusual model for everyone else. Highly recommended.

ZIS-42M half track and the Katyusha on a ZIS-6 chassis. Very nice. I know a lot of people who are keen to get a Katyusha; though personally I prefer the half-track :-) The tracks units are to be available separately so I can always have the rockets on the ZIS-42M.

How likely is this one to deliver on time?

While only shills and water-carriers could have believed that The Winter War KS had a chance to deliver last November - and even allowing for the casting machine saga, that one is still 10 months overdue now, so I'm very dubious about this one having a turnaround for Jan delivery.

Made in gb
Fresh-Faced New User

Delivery estimates are quoted as a mix of Jan and Apr. The bigger reward levels, and those that contain stretch goal vehicles are set as April - so effectively Jan is only for small quantities of the core vehicles.

Your guess is as good as mine on actual delivery date, but unlike many KickStarters Bob says he is restricting the project to only those vehicles he has already completed (the majority) or that he has already started, This seems a pragmatic approach - and it removes one common delay - the wait whilst the master models are created. This project also has the advantage that Bob is making his own masters - whereas the other project subcontracted out the vehicles to others.

I suggest that you contact Bob directly and ask him the question.

My second piece of advice is that if Jan 15 delivery is an "absolute must have" then you may end up being disappointed if you back this.

Personally, I have a fair degree of confidence that pledges consisting of only the original core-tanks will ship on time.

Sounds fair. I'm just very dubious about anything the OP posts. He was very aggressive about the Winter War KS when I and others questioned the ability for delivery within even a few months, let alone the listed date - and we all know how well that turned out.

@CBRFigs I agree the Katyusha is bound to prove popular. Personally, I am after those ZIS-42Ms.I think they would fit with the muddy snow theme my Russians seem to be acquiring (especially he Finnish contingent).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

@Azazelx

Like all KS there are risks; and those projects that put quality first often find it difficult to deliver to original time estimates. Also if you expectation is that you will be shipping 50 tanks, you might find you time lines slipping when you find yourself committed to 400+ tanks (the current pledge level).

To be fair to Bob (the creator) he has been open about the fact that if the KS is more successful that he originally hoped then the delivery might take longer than expected - hence I suspect the shift to Apr 15 for the more recent pledge levels.

IIRC, Bob has also said he will deliver by backer number - so the sooner you pledge, the higher up you will be in the queue for delivery.

Like all KS you need to go in to the project with open eyes and be aware there are risks. No project is riskless - but I honestly believe it all seems doable. There are solid (good) 3D models, "prototypes" have been cast, there is a communicated plan which sounds reasonable & achievable and the creator is aware that there are risks and is taking steps to be pragmatic about reducing those risks whilst still reacting to the fantastic success so far. What more can you ask of day 10 of a KickStarter? :-)

As for CBRFigs he is enthusiastic and wants the project to succeed. Nout wrong with that. So do I. At the end of the day, he and I are just backers. And this project is not being run by the same person as the other one was.

(PS: In the interests of full disclosure: I am also a Winter War backer (for 4 platoons and loads of vehicles))

Your points and the way you're communicating them are very reasonable, and Bob sounds like he's being somewhat realistic about it. However as you know, many KS creators are not, and give either their most optimistic schedules or outright lie. The problem comes when others like CBR only come to a forum when they're talking up a KS, and then attack people who speak more cautiously about projects - and then only come back to pimp later projects.

Note, this isn't a personal attack towards you or your post count at all, more a discussion on credibility and the "proper" way to communicate with people on forums where you're not a regular member. Bill failed badly by being a dick in the WW KS thread here, and his credibility to me is shot. You on the other hand are being a rather pleasant gent to chat to - positive and willing to share information on the project without being unpleasant or arrogant to discuss it with.

After all, there's wanting something to succeed, and there's being a one-eyed water carrier who talks down any realistic caution others may have.

To be fair, I don't expect to see the Tas till several months from now, minimum. I just can't pass up a chance to make that a reality, its a really cool tank design.

I pretty much assume all kickstarters will run at least a year late now. Hell, I'm STILL waiting on some if my dreamforge stuff. If the kickstarter still feels worth it, I'll pledge (obviously, I don't pledge much anymore) we'll see if my judgment was good on the Winter war stuff soon enough, as I factored in delays when I pledged.

that's not me trying to argue for or against this kickstarter being on time, just explaining my logic. The more stretch goals we see, the worse delays will be. If he had capped out before the Tas level, I would believe him saying minimal delays. With the crazy amount of stuff unlocked now though? Probably going to be a couple at least, if only due to the volume of orders.

@Azazelz - I will respond once and once only to you.

I am neither a shill nor a water carrier (as is somewhat implied by your posts), though I must admit to being of the male gender as you state!

I am just a backer of some kickstarters and when I personally feel that those kickstarters are really good I promote them with my time and effort and discuss them on various forums. I also do my own due diligence into each project as I do with all my investments, and I advise others to do the same (as I did with the 'Winter War' kickstarter). For example just last night I withdrew my backing from one kickstarter because I decided there was to much possibility for misunderstanding with the creators. I have also withdrawn from other kickstarters I have backed with major companies in the field because I got the impression that they were not customer orientated and were not worthy of my support and investment.

The 'Winter War' kickstarter is now presently 5 months behind schedule, not the 10 months you state, and is also now in the final stages of completion. Gavin, the creator of that kickstarter, has more than proved his mettle and come through difficult times in completing the kickstarter, which being as I was and am the major investor in that kickstarter I am extremely pleased about. Indeed when he runs his next kickstarter I will undoubtedly support it fully.

Now, to the 'Hungarian Tanks' kickstarter. For those who have done their due diligence they will note that under the 'Risks and challenges' listed on the kickstarter homepage Bob has clearly in the second paragraph stated the following:

"The Stretch goal items are all at different stages of development, but all are achievable, however I expect that every £1000 above my basic funding goal will add 2-4 weeks to the expected delivery time. This is due to a culmination of additional casting, additional design work and additional administration (posting stuff to a hundred people is a lot more effort than only posting to ten)."

This in itself shows that Bob has thought out the timescale involved in production of models dependent on numbers pledged for. So Azazelz that should reassure you personally, if not then contact Bob via kickstarter and do your own due diligence, something I think all investors should do before making any investment. For my part I am likely the biggest backer of this project at the moment, though of course I do not know this.

Bob has also stated clearly in the comments that rewards will be sent out in backer order number (something I wish other kickstarter projects would adhere to).

I personally think this is a marvellous kickstarter, it is bringing new models to the war gaming community at reasonable cost, further more the creator of the project has built a good reputation for his models he has already produced. The work is at various stages of either the design or production stage, and Bob has been totally open about this. Indeed I am so enthused by this project that I back it fully, others must make their own minds up. In the meantime I will continue to post news and views about the kickstarter. Sorry if that upsets anyone, that is not my intention, and it should in no way detract from the feasibility and value of the 'Hungarian Tanks' kickstarter.

@ Mr. Moustaffa - I don't think Sable is related to the company, either Baker Company or Mad Bob Miniatures, he just like me is simply enthused by the kickstarters.

@MrMoustaffa - I've only posted to two threads on Dakka. I lurk more than post. I do post more frequently on other forums though. FYI the other thread I posted on was the same WW thread you did.

My only interaction with Mad Bob Miniatures is as a backer of the KS. My impression is that it is not really large enough to be called a 'company' though ;-)
