When I got the 7th edition .epub BRB, I was dismayed to find all three books rolled into one file. After I read it, I was more upset to find out that they completely left out the rules summary section at the end of the book (the .epub digital book ends with "psychic powers", there is no appendix after it.). I think I just hit the straw that broke the camel's back yesterday. I played a game and chose Telekinesis for my Librarian's powers. I rolled 6, and pulled Psychic Maelstrom. My opponent said something to the effect of "ouch, thank God it's WC3". I looked at him like he had three heads because what I didn't know, is that the printed BRB has Psychic Maelstrom as WC3, the psychic power cards has Psychic Maelstrom as WC3, but the damn .EPUB has Psychic Maelstrom as WC2. What the hell?!?!? I've checked Black Library and there have been no FAQs or after-the-fact releases of the .epub BRB to correct this. I've had people tell me that the .epub is just a digital scan of the printed book. I can accept that. GW has never responded to my inquiries about the missing appendix of rules in the .epub, and I can somewhat accept that they didn't want to include it to make the printed edition more viable. But I simply CANNOT accept blatant mistakes such as having the wrong WC listed for a power, and no update to fix it. The person I was playing against said most of the "roll 6" powers are now WC3. Is he right? Because the only powers that are WC3 in the .epub are under Demonology Malific.

There comes a point where GWs crap goes over the line, and I think this is it!.

There is a FAQ to the Psychic Cards, but that is to do with Banishment (Sanctic Demonology) having the wrong WC printed on the card. The BRB has the correct value.

But yeah, the .epub digital editions are a bit of a disappointment. Especially since the iBook editions are apparently pretty good.

However there is one really good thing about the .epub versions - they're DRM free! That means it's a piece of cake to copy all the text over to a word document, fix up all the gakky alignment of pictures and tables and print them out to have a physical copy available. I did that on my Sisters and Inquisition codices, and they look really nice. I did do it all at work mind you, so it didn't actually cost me anything. Technically I got paid to do it...

With as little response as this post generated, am I to assume that very few people are actually buying and using the digital downloads? When I play, it definitely seems that most of the other players have the physical books with them.

I like physical books but I'm also interested in digital copies but its like you say, the epubs are kinda crap and its not like you save money with them. "iBooks" are out because I will never buy another apple product. So until GW stops drinking the apple cool-aid, I'm going to stick with the physical books.

Yeah the epub/mobi ebooks suck. I think GW released them so people would stop scanning physical copies of books to torrent

They do. The .mobi files are also horrible bloated. The 40k rulebook takes up a fifth of the memory on my kindle. A fifth!

The irony is that it's much easier to torrent a mobi than a PDF. You have to scan the book, you don't have to scan the mobi.
So GW just made it easier for pirates in the end

Your BL logon will be embedded in the .epub and .mobi files, so be careful where it gets stored or sent. If a torrent file has your email address merged into it, expect a knock on the door.

But yeah, the 3-book BRB .pub is a mess. I was hoping to get 3 files, as I've not even looked at the other 2 sections of it.
No summary.
It's harder to jump to the page you want as half the file is pictures.
Page numbering is shot, as it starts on page 263.
There no way I can find to turn off pictures, which would be good.

Black Library only list the purchase date, not the date or version of the most recent version of the file. There's no way to know when a new version of the file is released.

I access the .pub files using the B&N reader, Nook, which is OK. There are probably better readers, but I have it on my PC, Android phone, and Android tablet.

Looky Likey

I use moon reader on my tablet, that allows full text search and gives me a TOC that I can bring up anytime to jump to whichever section I like. Final thing it does is allow me to save custom bookmarks, perfect for tricky to find things in the BRB once you have bookmarked them.

Having said that quality control from BL on the digital stuff is just appalling, I'm guessing they don't spend much on that department.

Yeah that's what I mean. People will pirate the mobi and because it sucks so hard they might still buy the book. If they could have just pirated a scanned PDF then the quality is much better so they wouldn't be motivated to buy the book.

Ingenious scheme to reduce piracy, reduce an inferior product that is easy to pirate
