Hi all,

Need to hire again so here goes.

Job details.

Location: Must be near or willing to travel to High Wycombe (England)

Work hours: 10-3 or 10-4, 5 days a week (increases later)

Pay: £10 an hour (yes you read that right).

Skills: Self motivated, it's a boring job, I've done thousands of them, but you can wear headphones and listen to music to help keep your sanity. Can hit targets and deadlines, a will to work and show up on time. A steady hand to keep the glue between the lines.

Must be none smoker

Employment: You will be self employed so you're responsible for filling in your own self assessment forms, the duration will be up to a month. Once this kickstarter is done and it worked well it can be a full time gig. I'm also planning on doing 9 more kickstarters and webstore so always work available.

If you need a job or know anyone who does, including single parents (hence the hours). Email me at jobs@mantiscreations.com.

Thanks

So you need no education or anything to do this job? All I need to be able to do is glue things together?

I think he also requires a bachelor's degree or higher to glue the foam.

Gluing trays. It's mentioned in the op.

No it isn't.

You mention glue, and being bored. No mention of trays.

Being able to read between the lines and deduce what the job is for is part of the hiring process. The above quote was a big indicator

So mind reading is a requirement.

It's not reading anyone's mind AduroT, it's obvious what the job is for and many people seem to grasp that, including other forums.

Hmm, I'm not getting what the job is exactly from just reading the opening post. Also £10 per hour as a freelancer (that's what you mean by self-employed right?) is quite low, considering the costs that go off (taxes, insurances, pension, etc). But then again, these things might work differently in the UK.

The tax and nat insurance is standard here.

£10 an hour is a good wage when you compare it to tesco and friends, retail and even office work, who will always try to pay the lowest wage they can (£6.50 iirc). With me you can listen to music/watch movies on your tablet/laptop, sit on a comfy chair and glue trays, no stress no hassle so long as the daily quota is done which is a reasonable amount. I doubt you'll find many jobs like that around.

I started Mantis Creations with the intentions of helping the community from which I came from. And I really want to give gamers an opportunity to be part of Mantis from it's beginnings like Valve, Blizzard, Spotify, Mantic, Geek & Sundry etc who wouldn't have wanted to be in on them from the start?

I think you're forgetting one thing. People in this community have disposable income (otherwise they wouldn't be able to afford it). So most people already have jobs (probably higher end jobs, because more money) but I do commend you on doing something for the community, I think we need more people like you.

I think this is aimed to the younger crowd, or the ones in-between two jobs. This is a great thing for the community to get motivated people into the business. I hope people bite on this opportunity.

This place is atrocious sometimes.

Someone is offering 300 quid a week to sit and glue trays whilst watching TV or listening to music, and you have people on the other side of the world piling in to have a dig.

Amazing

Of course, how foolish of me. A reference to using glue could only mean that you're gluing miniature storage trays together.

Just a tip: A simple 'Whoops! That was an oversight. I'll edit the first post!' would have done a lot more for encouraging a positive perception of your company than just expecting that the entire world has actually heard of you and getting snippy when it was pointed out that you had made a mistake.

Asking someone advertising a job to tell people what the job actually is is 'having a dig'...?

I think the misunderstanding (on the OP's part) is that he listed out the requirements much better in his previous thread advertising an opening (which fell through, I guess, or just didn't work out):

Tyron wrote:
Hello there,

Some of you may know about my former kickstarter (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/932371889/mantis-model-storage-case). I never anticipated how successful it would become and as a result I need to employ some people to help with gluing trays allowing me to work in other areas to fulfil my obligation to backers and for future projects.

The position will be temporary, but if it goes smoothly it will be a permanent thing. I will be contracting you as self employed. You will be paid above national minimum wage and the hours will be flexible between 10-5 (will sort out the hours during the interview) between Mon-Fri.

It will be a relaxed atmosphere so you can listen to music with headphones etc.

What I need from you:

Live within the High Wycombe area or can travel there.

A steady hand and able to keep the glue within the wall dividers

Self motivated

Knowledge of wargaming would be beneficial.

Positive attitude and can hit deadlines

Interested?

If you're interested please send an email with your details and a brief statement of why want the job at ilikegluing@mantiscreations.com

The closing date for all applicants will be on the 26/8/14. After this you will receive an email if successful for an interview.

Thanks,

Tyron

Also, since I followed the Kickstarter a bit I'm familiar with the company name and product (i.e. think "Battlefoam" and most gamers would have an idea of the area). But, this company name doesn't yet have the name-recognition that would trigger that.

Here's the prior Kickstarter campaign thread, for reference. Looking forward to hopefully seeing good things from this company in the future! Not sure I'd go and compare yourself to Blizzard just yet, though

A lot of the gamers are younger also, single parents who have a hard time finding suitable hours so they can pick up their kids. And with £10 an hour they'll have a lot of disposable income.

This also. For people who want to start a family and get a house this is a good opportunity but hardly anyone is taking it sadly.

The gaming community in all it's forms (online, RPG, console etc) are a double edged sword that's getting sharper each year as expected.

Thanks for your support though.

There was no oversight, the advertisement was worded as intended. Most people grasped what the job was and you didn't so your ego is trying to twist it and make it out that I was in the wrong and accusing me of being snippy when I haven't.

I don't need to be forcefully encouraging to gamers, they would have seen my threads and kickstarter and will know all of my efforts are for them, and always will be, hence the kickstarter turnout.

Way to be supportive Insaniak

Not Blizzard but you understand my sentiment where they all started small.

You've been encouraging of my endeavours and I do appreciate it and hopefully you will enjoy the other kickstarters and releases I will be doing

Gotta agree with insaniak on this on. "can glue between the lines" is a pretty crappy job description when looking at it without context.

If you want someone who knows what you do, or has researched your company, more power to you and I hope you find them, especially since you seem to be a pretty cool guy when it comes to non-minimum wages. But your ad does leave a lot to be desired in the description of duties for someone who doesn't know what you do.

"Aww man, I never realised I would be gluing 100s and 100s of rats together into giant rodent balls, this is definitely the 3rd weirdest job I've had"

Glory is fleeting. Obscurity is forever.

Okay, as this thread is getting a little far afield I'm going to close it and direct folks who might be interested in the position to the previous thread, where there is a more full description of the work and less unrelated posts:
