What is Battlescribe Data 40k?
BattleScribe Data 40k is one of the groups that provides datafiles for the army-builder program called BattleScribe.
We do not control the program itself, merely the data files that you use to build a list.
We have around 19 people who did a lot of work in their free time to provide you with lists that we try to keep as correct as possible!

Where can I find these files?
http://battlescribedata.appspot.com/#/repo/wh40k
The first link called 'Warhammer 40k' is a general link that will get you all the files.
Further down you can select individual armies; I suggest to take them all by clicking the first link.

Even better would be to copy the following link into the BattleScribe-data section: http://battlescribedata.appspot.com/repos/wh40k/index.bsi
Check this site to see how: http://battlescribe.net/help-overview.html

Why this thread?
As one of the authors I like to be informed when I make errors, typo's and other mistakes.
I also would like to hear it if people have suggestions and other points of improvement.
We usually get a lot of feedback, but that is mostly stuff like "The pointcost is wrong", "I can't open the file" or "You made a mistake."
The first one is very simple: We change it and it's done.
The second one is a lot harder, because our feedback is indirectly and users usually don't read our responses and tips. Which is why I made this thread.
The third one can be important when users think we've made a mistake when actually we haven't, but they don't read our response.
Another thing is that we also like to hear other feedback, suggestions, ideas and opinions.
And many people don't know where to post this feedback, but they do know where to find Dakkadakka!

"My file won't open, I get an error, it's not working!"
This is something we hear a lot, which is why I think we need a short trouble-shoot on this:
1. Make sure you are using http://battlescribedata.appspot.com/repos/wh40k/index.bsi and not some other source.
2. Try clearing all the data-files in the BS-folder and redownload them.
3. Still issues? Ask for help!

So in short: I decided that we authors need a place for direct communication and Dakkadakka is the perfect place for it since it's probably the biggest 40k-forum!
Help me help you

I need more help with Battlescribe itself!
http://www.battlescribe.net/help-faq.html

You changed something, but I don't see it?
If we fix something, our internal files are updated.
You will only see this after each release, so you just have to wait a day or two.
But if we gave confirmation, you can be sure it was changed!

Why do some Codices get fixed faster?
I made this thread on my own initiative, so if I often have to make a new issue on the 'real' website. That's something I do when:
a) It's too complicated.
b) I don't know the Codex (which is basically every non-Marine/Necron army).
c) Senpai and Thairne aren't responding
All of this work is done without any form of payment and in our free time, it's a hobby.

I have been having issues getting the Knights roster to work as a CA detachment. (Lots of error messages because it doesn't conform to a standard CA force org, no Gerantius, I'm not 100% but I don't think there were options for Seneschal etc either)

I've tried fixing it myself, but I'm afraid my brain isn't compatible with the thinking necessary to do this sort of stuff, and since my iPad updated to iOS 8 it just freezes if I try and create an IK roster.

So far, I've found that the CSM data lacks many of the weapon profiles and wargear descrptions when viewing units or in the roster. In addition, in the roster there are keyword listings with hyphenation, but nothing following the hyphens.

Chaos Space Marines? Could you perhaps give some examples?

They aren't Elites, Troops, Fast Attack or anything else.
You should try the Imperial Knight Detachment

iOS8 is a known issue within BS itself, I believe the new version is now going through Apple's "checking".

C:SM - They are in the file! You need to add the Chapter Tactics: Raptors and then the 'Show FW: HQ'. The author did this because we had 25+ HQ's.
Orks - "The entire mob may take 'eavy armour"

The Castigator and the Magaera are missing in the IK detachment. They appear if I use the CAD (IK), but then only selectable as LoW and have FoC error messages

Rules for the XV107 have changed slightly since it was put in BS. The only upgrade options avaiable to it are the drones, Positional Relay, and Stimulant injector. Also the weapon is AP4 not AP3.

I've also had the problem Vector above me had with trying to get the newer Imperial Knights in an IK detachment.

The points value for Assault Space Marines is off. A SM with a flamer is 22 pts not 23 pts, and a SM with plasma pistol is 32 pts not 33 pts. I was able to make the adjustment in my own files pretty easy though. That is the only issue I have encountered in my own use.

I updated the XV107; Weird that nobody told us that, it has been like that for quite some time.
The Imperial Knights are also updated, they were accidentally labelled as LoW instead of Knight.

And thank you, this is exactly why I made this thread! This is more useful feedback than in a week and with issues I've never heard before.
As always you will notice the changes with the next release which is probably this weekend.

The "danger" with own adjustments is that our release will probably overwrite it if you update it, so it's better if I also fix it.

The Chapter-thing is only a week old.
One of the authors did some great work by adding almost everything from the IA-books around two weeks ago.
The only downside to that was that we had 45 Forgeworld-entries and it looked quite messy, so we decided to use "hide and show"-modifiers to reduce the number of entries.
Nothing looks worse than having a Black Templar-list and having to crawl through 20 HQ's you cannot use.

Space Wolves and Blood Angels have the Legacies of Glory, I will ask them to do that for C:SM too.

Still missing Gerantius and the option to upgrade one Knight to a Seneschal in the IK list (in the IK detachment anyway)

I have the ePub WD with Gerantius' rules in if that is any use?

Also, while I get constant freezes on IOS (but get that's Apples fault) if I try and load the same repository on Android, I get an error message regarding "multiple instances of Space Wolves codex (2007)" or words to that effect, error. No other repostiories linked, so it isn't a clash from that.

Seems to be different data file version numbers in Droid too, is that normal or has it not updated to the latest versions for some reason?

Gerantius is in there. And yeah I can add in the Warlord option with built in Seneschal upgrade.

I have noticed a small bug with the Farsight Enclave list that occurs some times. On occasion after equipping a squad of crisis suits, it adjusts them back to their point value without bonding knives which are required by the supplement.

Also I've had some feed back for a while, but never knew where to turn it in at until I stumbled upon this post.

Weird, I'm looking at it right now and I can see the Gerantius.
I've also added an option called Warlord with the description from the FAQ.
And I added this option to the BA-Knights.

The freezing is both Apple and BS's fault, from Facebook:
BattleScribe 1.14.08 Submitted to Apple

I've finally squashed the last couple of bugs that seem to have been introduced with iOS 8. These proved very hard to diagnose, so thanks for your patience and apologies for the delay.

Good news today though: The new version is finished, everything is fixed and it's been submitted to Apple. As a nice silver lining, the fixes have actually resulted in some unexpected performance gains, so everything should be much snappier once the update comes through.

Apple usually takes about a week to approve new submissions so now we need to play the waiting game (some more)...

"Multiple instances of Space Wolves" is something you get when you have multiple files with the same unique ID.
My advice would be to delete all the datafiles from your device and re-download, since the repository only has one.
This error occurs when: a) we make a mistake and b) when an update doesn't replace the old file, but creates a copy.

The latest Space Wolves is: Space Wolves: Codex (2014) v12

http://battlescribedata.appspot.com/#/repo/wh40k has a report bug-option, but I prefer something like this thread where it's easier to interact with each other.

And do you know what steps to follow to reproduce that Bonding Knife-issue? Because I'm playing with them and it always has Bonding Knife Ritual turned on.
At the moment it's a min/max of 1/1 that gets 1 point more expensive for every model in the unit.

One small nitpick, the Necron Triarch Stalker's Twin-Linked Heavy Gauss Cannon is ST 9 in the codex as opposed to ST 10

It's changed.. And I am still thinking of a way to merge the Necron and Dark Harvest-list.

You are welcome, in one hour I already fixed 5 things. So I'm also pleased.

CSM: Codex (2012) v63

It appears that for most of the named characters the catalogue does not list the wargear they have. For example, Ahriman only has The Black Staff listed for wargear, yet has a profile for Aura of Dark Glory and Inferno Bolts, which if your opponent looks at your list would not be listed.

Also, it appears that most of the weapons do not have profiles. For Chaos Lord (as an example), the only weapon with a profile is The murder Sword.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Detachment .

I think maybe detachment can switch force organization detachment, without have to input rooster again and again.. Pile up the memory and lag the battlescript App

Example:
Unbound rooster where I put all of my ork, what I have/own.

When battle turn up, I can just switch force organization into Warhammer 40k style and delete unwanted armies rooster.
Do not overwrite the new rooster list, just publish it into pdf instead.

Save memory and time.

My mistake!
When I say that I made a change, it means it is changed in the 'internal' files but those have to be released before you will notice the change.
We usually have a new release at least once a week if there are changes.

Good idea, but nearly impossible.
We'd have to remove all existing Forces and just work with one.
Then we'd have to attach an entry called "Elite" to each Elite-unit and put 10 modifiers on that.

After a recent update, all of my Tactical Squad have had their boltguns removed.

In fact, all of my Sentinels of Terra lists are acting very strange. Large chunks of the lists are being listed as invalid.

@Kangodo Did I ever tell you how much I love you guys?

Something you might want to include in the first post, I recently added an FAQ section to the help: http://www.battlescribe.net/help-faq.html

I will expand the page as I get more questions that are asked... erm... frequently

(I don't check forums frequently so this is not the place to ask me frequent questions! This thread is for data related stuff!)

Just wanted bring up the FAQ as it may help a lot of people before they ask their question. Frequently.

I updated the point-costs for ASM, they were indeed wrong.
But I open the list, add a tactical squad and it says:
4x Space Marine
4x Bolt Pistol
4x Bolter
4x Power Armour, Frag & Krak Grenades

What exactly are you experiencing? I don't get any errors.
I am using v18 of the list (the version with my ASM-fix will be v19)

Aah, now I understand! If I have to make a guess:
Everything in a datafile is 'coded' under an unique ID.
Sometimes, when there is no other option, the unique ID gets changed.
The result is that your saved file tries to make a list with unique ID's that no longer exist.
Outcome: Error/Invalid.

With Boltguns it might try to add Boltgun (ID=123456789) while the new and updated Boltgun is now known as ID=987654321. So the end-result is that it cannot add the Boltgun (ID=123456789).
When you re-add the Tactical Marines, it automatically adds Boltgun (ID=987654321)

I recently did some major changes to the C:BA-file which basically destroyed every saved list (every unit got a new unique ID), perhaps something like this happened too.

Okay, that story was not quite 100% correct but it's the thought that count.
In short: I'm afraid we can't fix that, so the only option might be to just redo those lists.
We try to avoid changing unique ID's because most of the time there is no reason to change them.
