Hi guys though you all maybe able to help the backers of this kickstarter by Sentinel games.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sentinelgames/total-extinction-battle-for-karnak/comments

The kickstarter was funded last year in December and is currently running 4 months late.

Recent updates have been sporadic and the backers have not heard anything from the project's creator since september the 4th.

In a recent update personal problems were cited as the cause of the delay, however since then nobody has been able to get in touch with Sentinel games. The projects creator has not responded to any kickstarter messages or facebook messages.

I hoping somebody maybe able to get in touch with the creator Salvador Uranga Ballestrasse and establish his situation and the progress towards fulfillment of the kickstarter.

Obviously everybody suffers personal problems from time to time that can affect there ability to work and nobody in the ks comments is unsympathetic to such issues, however we are looking for information which can put people at ease and hopefully lead to the fulfillment of the pledges.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

What a shame. While I couldn't get in on this one, it looked really cool. I hope nothing unfortunate happened.

It's like the universe wants me to stop using Kickstarter. Yes, I pledged for this. I also pledged a token to Defiance. I pledged for the 6mm Plastic Armies campaign and to Robotech. I pledged to Torn Armor. I seem to pick the real losers.

Since Warmill was involved at least for some parts of it in regards to the terrain maybe they can shed some light on the overall statuses and behind the scenes?

Sad to hear of any project which goes off the rails like this. :( I hope it gets worked out.

Ah, I considered this one, but it seemed like they were trying to do too much with too little... hopefully they can pull through!

It seems a littler early to panic - 4 months behind is nothing in KS terms, and the last update was only a month ago. (Which, if the creator is having personal problems or whatever would make sense).

Plus looking at the updates - they seem to have made a lot of progress on stuff. So it's not like they just took the money and ran.

That's not a lot of money to make something that big. I think the creator is probably running into production cost issues. He certainly will have trouble affording any help.

It's very doable at 30k for what he's offering, but just barely. So delays are expected.

That's why I gave up on trying to make anything bigger than a squad sized skirmish game as a kickstarter.

4 months behind?

Suck it up. That's barely notable on a Kickstarter. And no update for a month?

See above.

I assume so. I haven't heard anything about it in a loooooooong time. The last update was something like, "We're having even more trouble with our manufacturers." It didn't end with a scream and then radio static, but it sounded kind of final.

One funny one is PDC games, who delivered their sprues and rewards before imploding and disappearing from the face of the Earth. Yes, I pledged for them. I also pledged for Mantic's campiagns and Sedition Wars and Trollforged and Dreamforge. Good thing nothing went wrong with any of those...

But that's Kickstarter for you. Everybody wants a thrill, pledging anything to roll the dice just one more time. Some will win. Some will lose. Some were born to sing the blues.
Oh, the campaigning never ends; it goes on and on and on and onnnnnnn.

What other business would get away with overrunning delivery dates by that much time and, just to add insult to injury, not communicate with the customers?

That's why I'm not really a fan of the whole Kickstarter hype. It feels too much like a casino.

This is not a complaint about the KS being late. The concern is that the creator, Salvador, has disappeared. That is a big concern. And he ended up with much more money that the KS since he took more monies after the pledge manager came out and thru his store. This is beginning to have the same smell as Ben at Drake...I hope I'm wrong. Ben is a thief.

Wait, what? The Drake game KS (wasn't there a second one?) went bad?

1 month since the last update is not disappearing, especially in production terms. Sometimes, you just don't have any news for a month while stuff is produced.

It's right to be cautious, but at this point it's probably still just another late kickstrater.

I haven't heard anything about Drake though.

edit: The drake kickstarter updated Sept. 28. DIdn't check the kickstarter, but not surprised if they're late too. I did notice their web store was open, not sure if their backers got their stuff yet, so selling retail before fulfilling backer orders is a big no no.

Hopefully they will still bring it all together. I backed this one on the high end because it had great ideas and has potential to grow into an amazing game.

Decided to back it as my new Sci-Fi game when I was giving up on GW so even if it falls through I have saved a fortune.

Since then I have been collecting Privateer Press games so I am happy to wait.

Really hope they can get it together as their game ideas could make them a lot of money in the long run.

Kickstarter is a casino.
It is a way of providing funding to start up companies, Normally, this is done by banks (who want interest on their loans) or venture capitalists (who want some share of the profits). Both of those options carefully pick and choose which companies they think have a decent enough business plan to succeed before handing out money, and often will still have some ventures fail.
When you fund a project through Kickstarter, you are taking on those risks for the promise of some reward. If the company didn't have a good enough business plan or experience to deliver on time - that is the risk you took. In fact, that might be precisely why those companies are on Kickstarter - because they couldn't convince a bank to give them a loan!

Agreed.

For me, the problem is that too many see it as just another webstore. They don't consider the inherent risks in backing a project.

Sooner or later, a big project will go wrong and then we've got trouble.

Oh man, I just checked it- looks like you're right in that there are major issues, but I'm not sure of the cause / motive / etc without looking more.

Still, I have trouble feeling pity for people who pledge 125K into a second campaign while the first 125K campaign from a brand new company hadn't yet delivered... (even if they had started, that's just got to be a red flag for anybody...)

A bit of an update here. One of the backers contacted Warmill to see if they could help.

Warmill response:

"Hi Pete
I’m afraid the last time we were in contact with them was back when the campaign finished and we were shipping out the terrain. I hope they shipped it on to backers afterwards!
Cheers
Harry"

So no luck there :( Although I wouldn't really expect them to know too much after sale.

Another backer says he has hold of Salvadors phone number and was going to contact him on the 6th oct. So far we've heard nothing back.

update:

Oscar's phone call.

Hi Guys!

I´m worried, very worried. I tried to call Salvador today (another time) and sounds the next message: This telephone number dos not exists.

I Have sent many mails to many people who knows him explain them our problem. As soon as somebody answer I will inform you.

Oscar

The last time the project creator logged on to kickstarter was 7th september.

So we're still in the dark as to progress and fulfilment.

Well if the KS money was spent on terrain from Warmill it makes the take the money and run scenario less likely

so hopefully it's a temporary problem that's preventing him from communicating

Some news from Oscar one of the backers.
Hi Guys!!!

Very Good news!

Five minutes ago, Lesya Naumenko (playtester, and translator to Russian and English and Sarvador´s wife) contacted with me. Salvador have a very important personal probem. He can´t answer here or by facebook.

Battle for Karnak continues go on (this morning Lesya was packaging glorlons), and a few days as soos as Savador can, we will have an update.

Sorry but I can´t tell you the Salvador´s problem (Believeme, is very personal)

See you!!!

Oscar

Hi guys,

Bit of an update here, the backers are still in the dark over completion of this ks.

Salvador has not been in contact for some time and all attempts at contacting him have failled.

At the moment it looks like another failed ks.

I be accurate, the last update was on December 2nd.

So it's been 54 days since the last update. That is a bit long to go without even a small update.

Sounds like this one man project took on more than he could manage. However, that's not as innocent as it sounds since I always saw this as a multi-person project.

Twas cruel of him to dangle hope in front of use only to once again take it away. I wanted those tanks, I really did. Even if I ask for a refund I cant imagine I would get one since he never logs in.

Edit: And I backed that at the same time as the G&G battleboards and thats a SNAFU as well.

Terrible that there hasn't been any update, they were some nice looking minis so hopefully the project will pull through for those that have backed it.

It appears now that this ks has completely ground to a halt, there has been no word from the creator for sometime and many backers are now seeking their money back through their banks.

Until anything is heard from Salvador Uranga Ballestrasse I would warn the community of his activities and advise not to purchase anything from the sentinel games webstore.

Backers have bought third party items through this ks which were shipped to Salvador Uranga Ballestrasse many months ago and have not been dispatched, some backers have recieved part pledges, with reports of incorrect items and missing parts.

Ah, well. You know what assume makes...

Troublemaker's not exactly in the same league as Reidy or the jokers who did that ice age mammal thing, where they fob you off with badly made rubbish or disappear in the aether. They've got a reasonably solid reputation for producing and shipping the metals from the first three crowdfunders.
I usually view the silly money thrown at vague KS promises with a fair bit of scepticism (especially the people who went nuts over those dreadful ice age sculpts...) but in this case I pledged on Indiegogo (yes!), was happy with my models, and I'm patiently waiting for the rewards from the fourth fully funded campaign. I know Ben's struggling to cut through all the red tape and assorted BS to get the plastics finished and out there, and I'll hold my hands up if things go wrong in the end, but I'm confident we'll eventually see some new tiny polystyrene soldiers from that corner.

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.

TroublemakerGames wrote:Hi Everyone,

Following our last update, when we expected to have eyes on production shots of the sprue within days, our plastics consultants went into administration (which quickly explained to us why we'd been having such trouble with our consultants, unfortunately), leaving us "swinging in the wind" somewhat for a time.

Luckily, our consultants have subsequently managed to:
A- Revive their business with new big orders
B- Put our 6mm plastics project back on track with a new plastics tooling company

This now leaves us (once again) in the same position as we were at our last production update, in that IF our consultants' word is accurate, we will see production test shots very shortly, and have the production run air freighted back to the UK shortly afterwards. As ever we are relying on the word of our consultants on this, but we are once again tentatively crossing our fingers.

We are conferencing every Monday with our consultants at this time, and we'll be updating everyone as soon as we hear of more forward motion.
We're aware that this must now be one of the longest-delayed wargaming crowdfunding projects, but importantly it is not a failed project, we will keep pushing on getting a delivery for every backer.

For now,

- Ben @ TMG

Considering this was the last update, I will admit they are doing slightly better than I had assumed. Slightly. The 6mm sprue campaign is moving with the same pace and judgment as Torn Armor.

Four months isn't so bad. Anyone remember the Mini Box storage Kickstarter? The creator updated less and less for two years. No one had product. Every couple months he's pop in to announce a new excuse. Then he posted on Facebook his new laptop and trip to Mexico. The backers were furious. The project was completely written off.

Last month he started shipping.
