Hello, Dakka!

We've launched our laser cut terrain kickstarter, and we've got a different goal in mind from most others. We want you to have an entire table worth of terrain for $50. Check us out!

Nifty. Admittedly, the pieces lack the detail of the more expensive alternatives, but that's kind of the point, isn't it? Offering more terrain pieces for an overall lower price to create a much easier entry point.

I actually like the "modern art" pieces for Hexopolis set. If you offer those separately, I would have to look into getting some of those.

Very cool concept. Simple, but effective.

Look forward to seeing you expand in the future.

Thank you both for the well wishes. Everything we've got up will be available individually on our webstore after fulfillment is wrapped up.

And yes, the designs are on the simple side, we're not looking to reinvent the wheel on so many of the staggeringly lovely laser cut terrain lines out there. I've operated a game store, and I really want to see the people running events able to use terrain that's not made of foamcore and felt. I also know a couple of garage gaming clubs, and they suffer in the same way. Hopefully this will make a difference to them.

I love the idea. Nothing wrong with some simple terrain, as long as it looks good and fills the board, right?

A few things for you to think about though, in terms of the KS:

1. What does "table full" mean? I see pics on the KS page, and models to show scale in terms of height and such, but how big are those tables? They look like 2'x4'?

2. How about allowing mix and match on the big pledge? Instead of one of each "big box," how about just picking 3 boxes?

3. The graveyard set looks a little smaller than the others, especially in height. I'm sure the boxes are set, as you said you've been producing some already, but I think that's worth considering for the future.

4. Stretch goals for the ruins. What about craters? just a layer or two of MDF piled up with rough edges to demote craters?

Hey Drazz, thanks for the interest!

1. A table full means enough terrain to play a good game on. It's a bit of a mushy definition, I recently did an update and we're uploading more pictures to show off the terrain on the normal sized boards. Ruins and Rubble covers a 4x6 table, the graveyard gives a very dense 3x3 for Malifaux.
2. Mix and match is possible with addons, the final survey will do that. The large pledge is mostly fixed to help make fulfillment easier, we're very serious about that December fulfillment date and the smoother the pledge levels are, the faster that end goes.
3. The graveyard is a bit shorter than the others, mostly for thematic reasons but also for the games in mind when it was designed. Those large mausoleums are a bit over 75mm tall, and will completely hide most of the figures in Warmachine and just about all of them in Malifaux.
4. We've thought about craters for the ruins, and we'll likely add them to our webstore later on. The current stretch goals for the ruins involve some terrain that's more xenos-themed for the 40k crowd, a small ork outpost and a small eldar outpost.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
We are funded.

Stretch goals are going out now, each one will be adding to the existing pledge levels. The more stretch goals we hit, the more terrain everyone gets.

I think the ruins would have looked better if you'd had a particular material in mind rather than a generic "wall" and "floor". A wooden floor or a brick wall will naturally break in distinct shapes due to the planks or bricks that make it up, while these seem to just have a wavy edge that doesn't really speak to its composition.

I'm going to share this kickstarter with some TO's I know. cheaper terrian that is sturdy and can be quickly glued, spray paint, and maby drybrush for filling out boards is a huge deal.

The only thing is that the MDF seem to be plain in alot of areas. If you were to engrave a brick pattren in the sides of the buildings instead of leaveing them bear would make a huge difference.

Thanks for letting people know about us, it's greatly appreciated. I've operated a game store, I understand the need for easy terrain. That's one of the big reasons why we've decided to do this.

We thought about adding more texturing to the walls, but the time on the laser jumps pretty high when you do too much of that. We've got some interesting plans in the pipe for more advanced texturing, it's a little outside the box but you may like it.

I think some of the stretch goals are things that just aren't going to work well in this material. The trees and craters in particular don't look convincing at all. Nor does the rubble. It might be better to focus on things that can be done well in this material.

Why no corner piece for the walls in the ruins pack? That would make them a lot more useful.

I like it. Mix one or two amera pieces in there, and you can put together an exceedingly cheap but full table.

I saw somewhere in the comments someone mentioning some kind of textured spray-paint to give a "rocky" look and rough feel. If you guys tested that, and it worked... it would be a hell of an option/stretch-goal for the Kickstarter.

I have to say that the Cemetary set is probably the most cohesive and practical set of the 3

As for the ruins set...

The strech goals, the rubble especially, is disappointing, to put it mildly.

The craters appear too shallow to provide cover.
The ramps are okay.
The rubble just look like stacks of weirdly cut shapes. I'd rather use piles of the offcuts.

Not being an Infinity player, I imagine the appeal of Hex shaped is just lost on me. That being said, Hexopolis looks lke a very useful set. Although I admit, I would have prefered cutting time being uses to make actual doors and windows, instead of those hexshaped trim along the roof.
Love the rest of it though.

There aren't doors or windows in the Hexopolis buildings?

Any chance they'll be rectifying that?

There are no doors or windows, there is nothing inside, and I don't think that's going to change.

Remember, this is cheap-as-possible terrain, which means minimal everything.

As for the ruins set, I don't mind the craters at all. They are craters, and most games clearly define that as partial cover/terrain/whatever is used in the game.

The rubble and ramps, though, have made it so the ruins set is a clear third place for me.

Can't remember who, but someone produces laser cut plastic doors/windows/vents that would fit the hex theme nicely. Will try to think of the name.

I think this stuff is really cool especially for the price. Yeah it's MDF terrain that I've seen many times, yet its quite affordable and generic enough.

The main thing I see, and this isn't really a problem.. but ramps suck. Especially ramps made from MDF at a high degree angle, models will just slide right down them unless they are perfectly sized plastic models with a low center of gravity.

Just spray the ramps with texture paint and your problem is solved. I imagine with any MDF terrain you would want to put texture paint on the pieces or it will look like ... MDF.

Hex and graveyard are looking like the best buys to me. I like really full tables though, so I might need something more like two sets.

Hey everyone, thanks for the discussion, well wishes, and constructive criticism. This has been a far greater success than we anticipated.

Hexopolis will get a bit of a makeover on the inside depending on funds raised. There's an even higher wattage laser I've got my eye on, once we get our cutting power to a certain point I'll be able to do interior floors for the buildings faster than I'm making the hollow shells now.

As far as the ramps go, the angle they're at right now handle smaller figures without too much trouble. I'll probably extend them a wee bit more just to be sure.

There are doors on the hex buildings, just not removable. If you look carefully, there's an etched in double door on the front of the larger buildings.

They're good for what they are, and that hex set would be a godsend for Infinity TO's who need some terrain in a hurry. 3-4 sets of it given basic priming and airbrushing would be great fallback terrain if people fail to turn up with the required terrain for a tournament.

A nice stretch goal for hexopolis would be glue on detail bits, like doors, vents, and window frames.

The "fine art" bits use a ton of cuts. Now imagine using that cut time to produce something like this

Stairs. Must have for Hex. Don't care if they are a add on, but they are pretty much needed at least for the big buildings. I would easily drop money on this for infinity but without a way for the troops to get up, not to much

There's currently a stretch goal for an upgrade to the Hex buildings, we'll give them punched out windows and doors as well as add interior floors. I've got some designs I'm working on for an upgrade pack, some hex bridges and stairs/ladders amongst other things.
