I've been doing a lot of 15mm models lately and had some ideas for my own range of models and was wondering if I could get some feedback on one of the aliens.

I plan on doing a Kickstarter (hopefully in November) under the company name Wolfshead Miniatures.

There will be 4-5 sculpts with a commander model. I have some ideas for a 4-legged mech as well.

The model pictured is a rank&file trooper (not quite finished yet). Only one head is pictured, there will be 2-3 options The commander will have different arms, weapons and head as well.

The model itself is about 23mm tall. I wanted it to tower over a human-sized model (causes fear in their enemies)!

Most of the factions weapons will be slung under the forearm.

So far I don't have any ideas for a heavy weapon trooper or any type of APC/tank.

The second faction will be all mechanical/robotic. I haven't started them yet but I've a few ideas.

For the 3rd faction I was thinking of a "bio-mechanical" aline race (like Tyranids or xenomorphs) or a cybernetic race (similar to the Strogg from Quake or similar to the aliens from the movie Virus.

Any suggestions you guys might have would be welcome! I don't see 15mm talked about much on Dakka but you guys usually have some good ideas/advice.

Hey man that's pretty cool, i reckon a massive two handed tau like railgun would make a cool heavy weapon

Id love to see some cool AI stuff though

I chose to use fore-arm mounted weapons due to the "fragile" looking nature of the alien. I think they would try to avoid close-combat and use "slave" creatures for that.

This is only one type of alien from the faction, I want to have at least 3 more for the Kickstarter.

There is an "ape-like" armature I'm making for the aliens as a "close-combat" monster. It's modeled after the 4-armed apes from the movie John Carter, but instead of a head they will just have a large, fang-filled maw. They'll also be wearing combat armor!

Maybe something truly "alien" would be a good idea for the other ones.

Add a brace from the shoulder to the forearm gun. Even future tech weapons will have kickback, otherwise they lose power trying to cancel out that kickback.

And no creature is designed to have their arms extended out like that indefinitely without some support.

Move one set of the legs back or forward, and either make one set smaller or offset it. You don't see that kind of perfect symmetry front to back because the limbs get in the way of each other. This also leads to a more dynamic and appealing pose.

For the "truly alien" race you're considering, may I suggest asymmetry? Nothing screams unnatural to the human eye like a lack of body symmetry.

And yet if you look at your face in the mirror covering 1 half with another mirror so you are symmetric you look totally alien and unnatural

The "mech" faction will be a bit asymmetrical. I'm basing the look and feel of them off the Maschinen Krieger style.

If you were to make them 10mm instead of 15, they'd be compatible with Dropzone Commander and the new Planetfall.
You might sell more that way. I know I'd probably buy some.

I was thinking about that. With 15mm models, just like "heroic scale" there is a lot of variation in sizes depending on the model and race.

For instance the Horgosi models I'm sculpting for Load Ninja Games are for a 15mm scale system, but they are about 22mm tall at the top of the head. The Neek models are about 12-13mm tall at the top of the head (depending on the pose).

The alien faction will comprise of maybe 3-4 different races so I can vary the scale of them, possibly for use with other scale systems, that way this particular alien could be used as a "large creature".

HI guys, Just a quick update on the 15mm models I'm working on. Here is a WIP of one of the Alien races for the KS I'll be doing.

http://imgur.com/a/FtbCR

This is the large alien (not quite done yet), there will be a smaller one. Their weapons will be modular, the tentacles forming the guns etc.

For their heads I was thinking of something like this pic:

It will look like the tentacles are all coming out of the head.

I think the squad of these would comprise of 1 large and 5 small aliens.

Here's a quick WIP of the mech hover-trooper. For the mech faction there will also be a "walking" trooper, a Leader and a "walking" heavy trooper with heavy weapons.
