Does anyone have this book yet? I just started reading it and enjoying what I am seeing so far!

Its good so far, I love the new hell talon / blade rules - makes them VERY interesting fighters, especially the "jink" they can do before moving, can totally mess with peoples heads when trying to keep out of their firing lanes

The renegades list is SO much fun

Just got on to the dreadnoughts section (sonic dreadnoughts)... it's really cool all the new rules I've read so far. Seems a lot of 'gaps' are being filled the more I read. Whether they're worth the points or not is another thing but at least you get so many options now.

Agree the new Hell Blades and Hell Talons are interesting, I especially like the Hell Blades new weapon option and special movement they can do.

What are people's impressions of what's worth taking and not? Both the CSM vehicles and from the Renegades army.

The option to take 3 spawn units (so cheap!) as troops seems really good.

I like the upgrades you can give vehicles, especially the 12" Dirge Caster and re-roll for Malefic Daemonology seem tempting.

Dreadclaws? I'm not sure... They are so tempting, but are they worth the 100 points?

Mutant Rabble with a Covenant of Khorne led by an Enforcer with combat drugs and Kharn the Betrayer seem like a fun combo, but then there is the problem of getting them across the table. Maybe a Sorcerer with Telekinesis could help.

I really like the cheap artillery.

With cheap 5-man Veteran squads we get access to the cheapest OS Chimeras in the game, but is Chimera spam a viable tactic?

I would happily ally in some renegades just to get the cheap spawn (three for the price of less than two) and for the massive hordes of zombies. Not to mention the laser rapier heavy weapon teams. 99 points for three laser destroyers is horrible.

But all the cheap artillery is awesome, plus its a good reason to use Imperial guard models, seeing as they are more or less exactly the same, except they are evil.

I've got the book and unless I've missed something, not all the weapon profiles are in the book. Can't seem to find the stats for the magna-melts cannon or the plasma destroyer for the relic predator for example

I'm still on the fence about getting it. I know FW is expensive and I generally consider the models worth their price tags, its the shipping that really gets me. I'm hoping to see the book first so I can pick models I'll be happy wit and then order enough to get free shipping.

I thought it was jus me, Thought i was going nuts . Was hoping this book would stop me having to flip between other forgeworld books for rules. guess its back to making a pdf for my tablet for the rules, for when questions arise

Never thought about a renegades force before , But might be nice distraction for my mates space wolves while i get up to sneeky black leigon things

The eye of terror

How about the quad launchers being 5 points less than a rhino, the complete lack of armour on the crew being covered by the artillery rules, I believe they're 15 points more than a rhino in IA1 2nd. Seems like an absurd amount of firepower for the points and with the sheer volume of blasts you can include, losing a BS point doesn't seem that bad a penalty.

It definitely pushes you to different places than the AM codex, getting some units up to the same levels of armour and BS/WS as units from there will end up making them cost the same if not more in a few cases unless you really max out the unit numbers (like 6 armoured sentinels for example) where they just break even but with less options. There's definitely more of a feel of going for quantity not quality which makes a lot of sense given the theme.

Speaking of theme there's definitely options, so many ways you could go if you were doing a fluffy force, whether that's a huge mutant rabble or a squad of Heretek altered unfortunates and everything inbetween. Oh and the needlessly fluffy rules like 'In it for the money', I can see a lot of people having a lot of fun with this list.

Oh and there's some fun marine things too

You too huh?

I'm assembling an EC themed CSM force, and the Sicaran is the headline unit for me too - lots to do though before I will be in a position to add it, so can wait for the non-LE edition.

Oh I'm gonna have to third that statement, loved the Sicaran since it came out and now they've given us special version of it.

Quite like the angry relic achilles too, the more you shoot it the angrier it gets with you and that's rather fun.

It is considered identical to a chaos space marines army, except it can select an allied detachment from the chaos marines dex, and can be selected as an allies contingent for a csm army considering each other battle brothers in both instances.

This book is like a life line for the CSM. It has so many fixes for the crippling weaknesses in the CSM codex.

The sicaran alone is going to be a huge buff to CSM players suffering under the heels of waveserpent spam. It is less efective at this than the loyalist version but instead gains buffs to all the units around it which are massive (or even the chance at extra VP). Can you imagine a D factory backed up by one of these with Death of Kasyr Lutien?

They are rather fun, I imagine some kind soul might.

Really struggling with writing a renegades list not used to this whole horde of things style of play, and I've been doing a lot more Infinity than 40k lately. Seems very easy to spend a lot of points on veteran equivalents and end up having them cost more than guard vets, but since the standard 10 man squads can take two specials in a minimum sized squad anyway (seriously a special for every five), and are a fraction of the cost would it be worth just msu'ing them, and is mechanised better than foot, I mean they do have the old cost chimeras (taking a hit of -1 to BS).

The book mostly has unit entries, it doesn't have the pages on pages on pages of fluff of the HH books.

There is some fluff apart from the unit entries, though.

But on the good side, it lacks the ridiculous count of the word 'bellicose' the HH books have.

Its very similar to IA2 v2 if you have seen that. If you like pictures there are plenty of those showing paint schemes and so on for most of the tanks. Vraks or the Baab books are better for a fluffy story involving chaos from FW.

I like the fact some of the fluff is presented as a treatise put together by an inquisitors on the nature of chaos and dark mechanicum.

Boy those LoW daemons are some serious points sink!

If in any doubt, it is worth the price tag imho. Production quality is great and my CSM just got scary.

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you.

Remember the current version on sale is the LE, I believe I've read somewhere that the regular version will be £30 (which is the same as IA:Apocalypse - a friggin steal compared to GW codexes) once it goes on sale, and I'll be happy to pay that.

I think it'll be £35-40. Back in the day they used to charge £8 for the posters IIRC, and there's the slipcase to account for as well.

Even at £40 if you compare it to a standard hardback codex it's much better value IMO (I realise the price of standard codices is itself....silly....before anyone mentions that )
