What is your preferred base size/style for non-ranked 28-32mm human size figures?

When basing non GW minis, I still try to use standard slots bases. That's my preference.

I considered including them, but I couldn't think of any current games in 25-32mm that used 20mm round as their primary size. I've only ever used them for crew figures on vehicles.
What do you use them for?

I think it's a reference to the beveled edge that GW uses for their bases.
Alhough, I am of the opinion that GW should use 30mm bases for Space Marines and the like. Their feet already stick out over the edges of the 25mm bases.

Man, I made a funny and no one commented.
I've come over to the Malifaux/PP base just because it allows for a bit more creative basing. 25mm is so small and, as Tann just said, doesn't really represent SM that well, imho.
But lately, it's been 3/8 washers. sticks to magnets, heavy enough to keep minis upright, and dirt cheap.

I like the standard 25 mil round base for infantry models, bigger than that is not representative of the model scale, you are using something like 3 times its surface to represent the model.

Yep, That's what I was trying to get at. Differentiating the 30mm bases that look like bigger versions of GW 25mm's from the 30mm that have the rounded edges. Sorry it wasn't more clear. Automatically Appended Next Post: Mathieu Raymond wrote:Man, I made a funny and no one commented.

IIRC
Just to be clear, for those not accustomed to washer sizes, you're talking about 3/8 hole size with a 1" (25mm) dameter, right?
I considered going the steel washer route a while back. I even based a horde of zombies on them. Went back to 25mm slotta's since they're cheaper, what my other figures were on, and I didn't want to change my storage system. Still, I've got a buddy who puts everything on steel washers in magnetized boxes. It's a pretty sweet system and you really save $ and space when compared to buying miniature storage trays/bags.

I voted "Other", because it depends. For 40K/30K/Inq28 human infantry I use 25mm bevelled-round(GW-style) bases, and various other sizes of the same style for other types of infantry(I use 30mm bevelled-round for Marines as suggested above, and also for some characters).
For Mordheim I use 25mm bevelled-square bases - for some reason using round bases just "feels" wrong.
In general I don't like the Malifaux/Warmahordes style bases, having a big thick lip around the edge makes them seem even more disconnected from the table surface to me. They're fine for competition pieces or custom Battlefleet Gothic bases, but I'd never use them other than that.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal |

Man, round bases in Mordheim make so much sense, but make me feel dirty in my soul. I want to get down on some transparent bases soon.

Pennies. Newer ones are magnetic they are roughly 20mm. They work well for skirmish games but are small enough that they can be ranked up and used in movement trays like the ones warbases work. Means I dont have to compromise between a nice round base for a skirmish game or a square base so the models rank up well. If I want a larger base I use 2ps.

I'd love to use 30mm with flat/sloped sides, instead of the current 30mm rounded edge bases. WIth flat sides it's easier to pickup a miniature by the base, and there's more surface area on top for basing elements, or just to have the figure take a more dynamic pose.

Here you go, two options I've used in the past:
EM4: http://www.em4miniatures.com/acatalog/MINIAATURES_BASES.html
About 10 items down. Shaped like a GW slotta, but 30mm instead of 25mm.
Proxie Models. http://www.proxiemodels.com/store2/index.php?route=product/product&path=20_26&product_id=52
Thinner than GW style bases, and with a small lip, but still has only a bit less space than the base above, and far more than a PP style round sided slotta. I especially like these when basing figures with a cast-on base as the thinner size keeps their soles about the same height as a slotta base figure.
Both EM4 and Proxie are a bit less than $20 cents each, fairly reasonable for shipping and very reliable dealers.

I prefer the 30mm rounded edge or "wround" bases that Malifaux and WMH use, but the 25mm beveled rounds aren't bad either. The 30mm ones have just a little more surface area for creative basing, which is one of my favorite parts of the hobby.

Given that I was introduced to miniature war gaming via, and grew up playing, the Lord of the Rings SBG, 25mm round bases are my preference.
I'm not much bothered whether its a slotta base or a closed base these days, because I tend to pin all my models. Slotta bases I only use for plastic troops.
