TOY FAIR 2014: STAR WARS HASBRO TOY GALLERY
STAR-WARS-BLACK-SERIES-DELUXE-SPEEDER-BIKE-BIKER-SCOUT-A6588
The Force is strong — with action figures and plastic lightsabers — at Toy Fair 2014. Hasbro has unveiled new toys and vehicles for several major Star Wars lines, including Star Wars Rebels, the Black Series (including deluxe-size creatures and vehicles in the 6-inch collector’s line!), the brand-new Star Wars Command, and lots more. Check out our gallery after the jump!
STAR WARS REBELS
Based on the upcoming animated series, Hasbro showed off the first toys and vehicles for Star Wars Rebels. Ezra, Kanan, Chopper, and the crew of the Ghost will soon join classic Star Wars icons — immortalized in 3.75-inch form.
STAR WARS: THE BLACK SERIES 6-INCH
Hasbro made history with its collector-oriented line, The Black Series, which introduced the first ever highly detailed, 6-inch Star Wars figures. It’s been a massive success thus far, and is expanding with a deluxe assortment of even larger figures, including Jabba the Hutt and a Speeder Bike with Scout Trooper.
STAR WARS: THE BLACK SERIES 3.75-INCH
Not to be outdone by their 6-inch cousins, the 3.75-inch Black Series figures continue to impress in areas of articulation, paint-apps, and playability in the classic Star Wars toy scale. New entrants include Dagobah Luke, Snowtrooper, and more.
STAR WARS ARMORY
The Star Wars Armory line brings home the weapons of a galaxy far, far away, with a major new entry revealed at Toy Fair: The Inquisitor’s double-bladed lightsaber from Star Wars Rebels.
STAR WARS COMMAND
Star Wars Command is a brand new line of smaller scale figures and vehicles designed to allow easy recreations of epic battles.
STAR WARS HERO SERIES
The Star Wars Hero Series continues Hasbro’s larger scale interpretations of characters, now including heroes and villains from Star Wars Rebels.
STAR WARS MISSION SERIES
Additions to the Star Wars Mission Series, two-packs of 3.75-inch figures based on worlds, include Utupau (Obi-Wan Kenobi and General Grievous), Bespin (Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader), and more.
It's the Star Wars Command specifically that I am opening this up for.
Looks like a younger audience than W40K or Imperial Assault, here is a commercial for it (saw it on Youtube in front of an Extra Credit episode)
It's, uh... I don't know how I feel about just charging into Darth Vader with a Millenium Falcon.
Thoughts? Especially if you are parents with young kids?

"Gameplay" seems more in line with HG Wells' "Little Wars" which used pull and release cannon fire to knock down toy soldiers with a piece of dowel or marble "cannonball". Its a wargame without dice resolution.
I just wish they weren't green army man sized (54mm) but that may be a good thing?
Armies: Space Marines, IG, Tyranids, Eldar, Necrons, Orks, Dark Eldar.
I am the best 40k player in my town, I always win! Of course, I am the only player of 40k in my town.
But with the cannonballs or ballista arrows, you could take turns firing, I can hardly see them providing a chess clock to regulate how long the star destroyer can rampage through the rebels.

Also reminds me of Crossbows and Catapults, which was totally awesome.
Guys.. it's not a miniatures wargame. It's literally green army men with star wars models (and more colours than green) and pull-back vehicles to barrel through them and knock them over instead of throwing marbles or ball bearings.
Crossbows and catapulsa was great, but clearly also a lot more game-y with the castle walls and rules for knocking over towers and such. It was also my first 40k terrain(!)
Yeah, this looks like a neat idea for a kid's toy, but it doesn't look like an actual game with rules, etc.
I'd friggin' love a legitimate Star Wars wargame, though! I remember that I liked the WotC CMG when it was still around. It wasn't the greatest game ever and I'm not a huge fan of "collectible" games, miniature, card, or otherwise, but at least it was a Star Wars miniatures game. It was still pretty enjoyable.

Check out Imperial Assault if you haven't already. Due out Jan/Feb 2015.
My son loves playing with the figures, especially the dog walkers (AT-ATs). The figures are decently detailed for army men, but not even Bones quality. Still, it's awfully tempting to convert some stormtroopers into Eisenkern Primarchs...

Yeah, that's a decent little game. I haven't played it a lot, but I should play a bit more.

^^^ What the man said.
The plus point for wargamers is that here is a potential source of good, cheap models for use in various scales of game. I could see the larger ships being modified for X-Wing or the big scale navy game. The infantry look like they would fit well with 1/35 or 1/32 scale figures for use in RPGs or skirmish games.
A quick google reveals some of the sets on sale...
Obviously everything is not to the same scale, however I think a judicious investment of £100 would get you a good variety of items for use in different games.

I have seen these in stores and considered painting them up but they are a bit too big and the sculpts are a little goofy. Maybe if I was a faster painter and did not have so much else on my dance card, including plans to for other Star Wars miniatures games like X-Wing, Imperial Assault, and Armada. If none of those games existed, I probably would go ahead and get some of these to use in some kind of skirmish game, probably using LotRSB or similar.
Kilkrazy wrote: The new Star Wars skirmish game from FFG offers much higher quality pieces but they are a lot more expensive though of course come ready painted.
Do they really? Because on the pictures they look pretty unpainted.
The Imperial Assault miniatures are not pre-painted.
My comment goes more to the apt comparison to Green Army Men. They are certainly cheap but that is not really a factor considering the huge array of really nice looking miniatures out there representing WW2 - modern soldiers.
Similarly, I would be much more tempted to get these miniatures if they were the only option.
FYI there was another line of SW miniatures sold in the toy isle under the name "Unleashed." These were prepainted and significantly better looking that the SW Command figs. You can still find packs of them around the net.
Here are some examples:

To be fair, I know it's not a wargame, but my 6 years old nephew is totes not ready to sit down and limit his troops' movement to 6 inches "because an adult says so." Since I'll never have children of my own, I need a cheap entry drug for him to follow in my footsteps.

Our 6 year old son got a box of these as a gift from a classmate for his birthday last month. They are decent toys but there's no rules for them, at least they didn't come with any. They remind me of the plastic men that came with the Fort Apache set I had as a kid. A bit better looking as the manufacturing tech has improved but they're just soft plastic kid's toys. If your nephew likes star wars or narrative play with toys in general he'd probably like them. Our son plays with his SW legos more than these but in fairness SW legos are pretty cool.

As a parent, they are relatively cheap, hard to break, do not have any small parts to swallow, and are Star Wars. Good for younger kids, but mostly piss-poor sculpts.
They're Star Wars army men, and Hasbro priced them pretty well: just low enough that you can throw your hands up and say 'meh' about the quality.
