So trying to make an 'as competitive khorne list as possible'. Focusing obviously on assault and champions of khorne. The rule I gave myself waskhorne only (the temptation to take nurglings over bloodletters was immense). Deamons with CSM allies. The units the characters are joining are to get them into combat, any surviving is a bonus.

Bloodthirster (HAS to be in a khorne list)
2 greater (1 will be bloodsword for +1A for 2 specialist weapons + rampage)

Herald of khorne (with hounds)
Jugger, 1 greater, 1 lesser (1 axe, 1 bloodsword for +1A and choice between rampage and decapitating strike)

Herald of khorne (as above)

Herald of khorne (as above)

10 bloodletters (deepstriking)

10 bloodletters (deepstriking)

5 hounds (to scout a herald and provide 10 extra wounds)

5 hounds

5 hounds

Soulgrinder of khorne (either DS or starting)

Soulgrinder of khorne

Soulgrinder of khorne
Torrent

Chaos Lord (with spawn)
MoK, AoBF, jugger, melta bombs, sigil of corruption., bp.

10 cultists (with comms behind ADL)

5 spawn with MoK

ADL
Comms (to help deepstriking)

2k

I am not hugely familiar with deamons but after properly reading the dex have a firm grasp of their rules and uses (plus all the forum talk ive read over the years), having said that ive only fought against them a handful of times.

Is this a reasonably strong list in your opinion considering the restrictions of khorne only?

I play hound rush-esque lists a lot (though I usually have a bit more vareiety) and I can tell you you are going to need A LOT more hounds to get the Heralds where they wanna be (collecting skulls of course). In an 1850 I lose anywhere from 14-20+ hounds before combat depending on the matchup, so I could see you losing 2 of the 3 heralds before they get to do anything which is not what the man on the skull throne wants.

With a pure Khorne list (i.e. you're not buffing the hounds in any way shape or form) you need minimum 15 hounds per herald. I prefer the full shebang of 20. I'd drop a Herald to accomodate this, as well as possibly a Soul grinder. Your heralds should also take a Locus as they are great force multipliers. For Khorne you want either Locus of Fury for +2A on the charge or Locus of Wrath for re roll hits in the first round of combat. If you've got 2 Heralds I'd take one of each. That way you can do one big multi charge with one unit and re roll hits, and the other unit can do a more concentrated charge at something that reeeaallly needs to die.

I would also ditch the ADL and comms relay. Blood letters do diddly poop so who cares what turn they come in? Also seeing that the Soul grinders have such a large foot print deepstriking is probably a bad idea. Besides, I'd want them on the board to take some pressure off of the Heralds+Hounds, JuggerLord and Bloodthirster. Finding the points to get torrent on all of the 'Grinders wouldn't be a bad tradeoff either.

Be flexible in what rewards you take. Rampage isn't really all that useful sometimes. In a lot of situations the Greater Aetherblade could be more useful for S7 heralds on the charge. Some of the other greater rewards are awesome as well. +1W and IWND, 4+FNP, and ReRoll invuln saves all drastically increase your survivability, especially in the Bloodthirster's case.

Hope that helps.

It does indeed. I saw your herald hammer list below and it looked very strong.
So dropping a soul grinder, a herald and the ADL with comms will net me 335pts.
Buying torrent for the remaining grinder without one will leave me with 315pts.
Investing in 20 more hounds will cost 320pts so I'll have to drop the melta bombs.
That leaves me with 35hounds.
Drop 3 hounds. Get wrath and rage. (16 hounds in each squad will also feel very khorne)
Sound better :-)?

Cheers btw.

My pleasure.

Sounds a lot better. Everybody complains about Khorne but If you play to their strengths a khorne list can be pretty nasty. I mean you've got what, 4 really fast assault threats + 2 more big nasties marching behind that? I like it.

I imagine that your Juggerlord will be largely ignored first turn and by then it's too late. I feel like a lot of lists will struggle to put down that many threats before you start hitting their lines

And you never know - the bloodletters may get into combat lol!

Ha, now that would be something. I'm not sure how it should be commemorated, but it totally should be.
