So one thing that has been bugging me lately is...Why have the Emperor's Children not changed their leigons name yet?

My friend brought this up , and I have just been wondering the samething....Is there a reason ?!

Why would they?

Why would a chaos army be running around with the name "Emperor's Children".... thats the better question.

Their battlecry is still "For the Emperor!" as well, which is both confusing and disheartening to actual Loyalist forces.

It's Slaanesh. Everything the Prince does is "for the lulz".

One has to consider their background.

They were the paragons of what it meant to be Astartes long before the Ultramarines became the poster boys. They suffered a massive loss of gene seed before Fulgrim had been re-discovered, meaning they never had huge numbers because without a source of DNA the Emperor wasn't able to replenish their numbers very effectively, so the focus became on each individual being the best he could be. They also became essentially the Emperor's heralds to other legions, their relationship with the Emperor was noticeably closer than any other Legion.

It was only when many Legionnaires sacrificed themselves to buy the Emperor enough time to recover from an ambush did they gain permission to use the Aquila in their own iconography.

When it came to the Heresy one could argue that Fulgrim, and consequently the whole Legion, didn't so much fall to Chaos as jump. They fell further and faster than pretty much any other Legion, and I think I'm correct in saying Fulgrim was the first to ascend, and unlike Angron, Mortarion or Magnus actively sought it. (Don't know about Perturabo or Lorgar yet, events haven't been fleshed out)

Taking that all into account, their position in he Emperor's affections and the way they turned, keeping the name is just a wonderfully Slaaneshi way of twisting the knife.

My homebrew Slaaneshi Marine chapter is called The Sinless Wing.
It has a similar irony that works well for Slannesh.

From the Imperial Enemy Recognition Guide:

'Loyal Astartes will fight by your side, and should be obeyed at all times. They can be recognised by their Chapter names, which have a trustworthy ring to them, like Ultramarines, Imperial Fists or Emperor's Children

Heretical Astartes will instead have names that sound dangerous and/or from the 80s, like the World Eaters, The Crimson Slaughter or the Flesh Tearers.
