The guys at my flgs have a theory that we float past each other every now and again.

In the fluff for wave serpents it says that the shield is used for self defense to let its occupants have some room to get out since it only has one door. Do you think that when formatting the codex some one just accidentally hit a 0 after the 6 when typing in the stats for the shield? Having only a 6" range would make the rules line up with the fluff and the player would actually use the defensive mechanics like they were intended, (since almost 90% of our Eldar players didn't even know it had a second function.)

Just a fun theory we joke about. A simple misprint that got WAY overlooked and has drastically skewed the gameplay. What do you think?

Sounds legit...A 6" range would make the unit fair and balanced.

On moon miranda.

GW has corrected misprints in the past, and they're usually not so consistent about it (given that the weapon's range is printed in multiple places). While nice to think, it's probably not true.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

I think it's the same misprint as Boltguns. They should be 2".

Actually, it makes sense that the original intention WAS 6", but somewhere along the line someone got it horribly wrong, and from that point on nobody is willing to admit there is a mistake.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

It's probably based on the original Epic version of the Wave Serpent, which wasn't a transport and looked like this:

Changing the range from "Infinite" to 60" is actually a nerf.

If it had been 6", Mechdar would be so much more fun.

I've never seen that personally.

Well, it sounds plausible. As for it being reprinted in multiple places, is it hard to think that they just hit Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V with the misprint in place?

Why did they not change it? Wave Serpent sales skyrocketed as everyone realised how powerful they were, even with Wave Serpents going Direct Only and in a box set.

GW then carried this information on to think Direct Only=sale spikes.

It sounds more like people who are upset spouting rubbish more than sounding plausible to me.

Yeah I like the theory but it's almost certainly not true.

Oh look, Morgoth has an alter.

More seriously - back up your claims instead of lashing out.

Fun theory, but the fact is that a limited range would fix the WS already. Let's say 18" or 24" and it would not be as meta dominating as it is.

Oh wow this is exactly what I immediately thought. Exactly to you for having the same mental recognition of behaviour that I had lol

P.S.A. I won't read your posts if you break it into a million separate quotes and make an eyesore of it.

The possibility of a Misprint has been around since the release of the codex, so it is not new.

However, since the profile is the same in both places (unlike the Shadow Weaver), and the fact GW has had plenty of times to "fix" the issue, I believe it was intended.

Personally, I think it should have been used in lieu of firing any weapons and causes all units within 6" to take a Pinning test.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

I will quote myself to reiterate.
