heres a list maximising on the strongest points of Tyranids, Mainly Flyrants, Dakkafexes, Malanthrope and lots of Electrockgrubs but then Im also trying for board control with lots of bodies. 260 1x Flyrant / 2x TL Dev / Egrub - Hive Commander 260 1x Flyrant / 2x TL Dev / Egrub - Hive Commander 240 1x Flyrant / 2x TL Dev / Egrub 170 2x Malanthrope 50 1x Zoanthrope 50 1x Zoanthrope 44 11x Termagaunts 44 11x Termagaunts 200 30x Termagaunts - 20x Devourers - Flanking 210 1x Tervigon - Clusterspine - Egrub - Flanking 165 1x Carnifex / 2x TL Dev / AG 165 1x Carnifex / 2x TL Dev / AG\ 140 1x Mawloc Flyrants go do their thing. Termagaunts try to bubble wrap the core group of Malanthropes, Zoanthropes and Dakkafexes. Then the devilgaunts sneak out to ravage some poor units that will take 70x str4 shots and the Tervigon pops out spawning stuff, shooting stuff and casting away plus the Mawloc hopefully blasts away the entrenched unit or deathstar. I could remove the Mawloc and the Zoanthropes to get a fourth Flyrant but Im not sure its better, 3 Flyrant seems pretty optimal.

Looks pretty nice. Gunlines still pop up now and then, so the Mawloc is well worth having (and it can eat invisible units ) I think I might consider tossing in Hormagaunts for the bubble wrap, for the extra speed. But I'm not sure where I would find the points. (probably by taking fewer Devilgaunts, like say x10 )

Hormagaunts? Really? They arent as competitive as Termagaunts. I expect the gaunts that start on the board to die very fast, hormagaunts cost more but aren't tougher.
I dont think the extra speed is worth it

Hormagaunts, when used properly (Toxin Sacs, not thrown away as a cover screen), can be the MVP of Tyranids armies.
In a recent tournament, they took out a full wound Belakor in one round of combat, finished off a unit of Thunderwolves that had taken out a Tyrant and Trygon already and chewed through a unit of Grav-Centurions.

Just because something can happen doesn't mean it's likely. FWIW, good list.

I prefer them for bubble wrap, the extra speed is important because I don't have to worry about a poor run roll slowing down the Big Bugs. For me they are surprisingly durable...because they don't get shot, all the fire goes at the Big Bug they are giving a cover save to. If they Do get shot...that was their job in the first place.
Because I tend to see all the fire get poured into the Tyranofex (or Dakkafexen Brood) the Hormies often arrive in charge range intact.
But I prefer to use "Bug stars" of a Big Bug Brood, a Veno if I can, a Synapse source and a Hormie screen. I like to build a couple of those. When I combine it with Winged Dakka'rants, and maybe an Outflanker...I get my version of "Threat overload"
I like to fight as far forward as I can manage, so a little boost to mobility helps.

huh, thats an interesting theory, using the extra speed that the hormagaunts give to avoid them slowing down my main blob. Thats actually good. I never thought I would start re-considering the hormagaunts but I am now. I wouldnt use the toxin sacs as its just way too expensive of an upgrade but naked Hormagaunts could have their use. the single point the hormagaunts cost can be explained through the speed alone if it serves a purpose in the grand scheme of your army and getting extra Ini and attacks is just gravy to make up for the lack of gun, which, lets be honest, small groups of termagaunts dont really ever hurt anything. their just something that your opponent has to deal with. im actually willing to put this to the test and even sacrifice one Zoanthrope for the mobiliity, close combat and bodies. The list would look like this 260 1x Flyrant / 2x TL Dev / Egrub - Hive Commander 260 1x Flyrant / 2x TL Dev / Egrub - Hive Commander 240 1x Flyrant / 2x TL Dev / Egrub 85 1x Malanthrope 85 1x Malanthrope 50 1x Zoanthrope 70 14x Hormagaunts 70 14x Hormagaunts 200 30x Termagaunts - 20x Devourers - Flanking 210 1x Tervigon - Clusterspine - Egrub - Flanking 165 1x Carnifex / 2x TL Dev / AG 165 1x Carnifex / 2x TL Dev / AG 140 1x Mawloc 2000pts total This actually makes my list more varied and fun
