Just got my twisted little hands on Imperial Armour 13. Aside from the Renegades & Heretics list of All The Disposable Minions Ever (TM), the big draw is the option of the new Dreadclaw Drop Pod, giving Chaos Space Marines access to (proper) Drop Pod Assault armies.

Yes, they're more expensive than marine drop pods, but that's because they're so much more useful, and the things you can fill them with are much more dangerous.

My first idea - seeing that they can be dedicated transports for Chosen - was a Black Legion force.

Don't you need at least one unit to start on the board?

Edit: you would need a sky shield landing pad to start one of the drop pods on the board before turn one if you really wanted nothing but pods.

No. You must have something on the board at the end of Game Turn 1.

However, the Dreadclaw now has the Drop Pod Assault rule like space marine drop pods - so half turn up from reserve automatically on turn 1.

Cool yeah I have IA13 too it's great to have that rule on the pods. Sorry I was wrong about having nothing on the board.

What does your opponent do player turn one (if they go first) when he/she has nothing to shoot at?

What if you are fighting another full drop pod list?

Either turtles up in cover or breaks and runs for the (unprotected) objectives, I guess.

That's exactly what they do. I love it because you basically waste a whole turn of your opponents. They essentially have one turn less to deal with what you have. Won me a game yesterday.

Do they allow this book, Imperial Armor 13 in major tournaments?

Well, it's literally just out, so [unanswerable].

Forgeworld units are certainly allowed in Warhammer World events. Beyond that, depends.

I'll be honest, I don't get the 'no forgeworld' types. If you're going to start banning things, there are far scarier and more abusable rules in the basic codices (not usually in a single book, normally by pulling in battle brothers allies).

If i had seen this list 8 months ago, then i would have had a fun time playing my Chosen Army, but now i am selling my army and abandoning wh40k.

I had only rhinos. Very bad.

I find that to be WAY too many Flamers needed. I'd go for some Plasma. You can chuck Last Memory to do that, as the additional Mastery Level is meh, and the bonus power isn't great.

Second this post, not enough plasma. Other than that great list, really catch the theme of SoH/BL assault.

I really like this list.

As mentioned above, the flamers are great but some plasma would make them greater. There's nothing wrong with mixing and matching weapons in some of the flamer squads.

But here's why the plasma is pretty important. I assume you know this, but for the benefit of everyone who is new to IA13, you can't assault from a dreadclaw the turn you arrive from deepstrike. This impacts how well the army could be used for alpha strikes, it means every squad is going to be subject to shooting when they disembark (and you can't have all 5 arrive turn 1.) I assume you would want to keep the dreadclaws back a bit and put your squads in position to shoot, not put them in range of template weapons just to get assaulted the next turn.

Tried cutting down the units and bulking them up a bit.Still kept the Last Memory, as I've seen it used to devastating effect on infantry-heavy armies before... plus it's just cool.

Very nice concept! Nothing to take your "home objectives", but really nicely themed and looks fun to play.

But I'd probably keep the melta squads smaller as they are likely to be striking armour, and the flamers squads big as they are likely to end up in a fight with troops. If there are any left. Freed up points from reducing the melta chosen squads back to 6 could give you a Havoc squad for home field duties.

How about swapping some swords for mauls?

A similar concept but with Crimson slaughter you could give one squad of plasma chosen preferred enemy which would be rather lethal. But the increased Ld of VoTLW is probably worth it in the end, and you'd have to downgrade some chosen to normal marines. So go with Black legion if that's what you want!

The one thing I don't like about these pods is their lack of the guidance system. So its easy (when trying to get those meltas in range) to mishap.
