So I am looking to sell all my WHFB stuff so I can work on other projects. Anybody know the best way to start a Steel Legion army? I have a squad (No sergeant) and Commissar Yarrick. I play at a GW store, so the models have to be GW. Any suggestions?
I am willing to sell off my Cadians to expand this army project.

Erm, buy them from the GW site...or Ebay.

And any Armageddon pattern armour that you fancy from Forgeworld.

Would it be wrong of me to suggest finding a non-GW store so you are not so restricted?

I kid of course.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

I am asking how to build the army.

In a 1250pt game I use a command squad in chimera, 2 veterans in chimeras, 1 platoon w/ 2 squads of infantry and 2 heavy weapons teams on foot. For armour I use a Leman Russ demo with plasma cannon sponsons and heavy Bolter in the hull and a FW Laser Destroyer.

My complete army is 1 company command, 4 commissars, 2 platoons with 2 squads and 4 total extra heavy weapons, 2 veteran squads, 1 squad of storm troopers, 3 armoured sentinels, 7 chimeras, 9 leman russes and 2 baneblades. And I'm still adding to it!

You will most likely need to change a few things because first, you might not have a Laser Destroyer and second I still play 5th Ed using the older codex.

Steel legion have lots of armour, so chimeras and lemans are your friend.

Hopefully this gives you some ideas.

Okay, it was hard to know that from your post.
You're probably better off in the army list forum then.
To make any suggestions without more info is futile at the moment.

Points level?
Budget?
Playstyle?
Conversion skill?
Gaming skill?
Competitiveness?
Transportation?
Ease of painting?
Do you really want to take Yarrick?
What was wrong with your Cadians?
Have you got the codex or a rough list?
Etc

You don't need to use GW models. My GW was always happy for me to use whatever. They even thought some of the conversion that used non-GW bits were cool!

Dunno about that.
I'd take it with a pinch of salt and probably ask at the store in question before dedicating time and money to an unuseable army.

There's also the question do you simply like the look of the Steel Legion minis, or are you actually building a "Steel Legion" army list? If it's the latter, ALL of your units that can take a dedicated transport should be mounted, preferably in Chimera hulls. Other fluffy bits would be to include a single Catachan squad as Armageddon Ork Hunters and a big unit of hive gangers as your Conscripts. Lots of fluff out there and lots of possibilities for a really cool army.

And in 14 years, the Steel Legion minis have only risen a single penny for ten guys. How is that possible?! Inflation, the price of oil/tin/pancakes, Kirby, Finecast, no online shopping carts, exchange rates, ISIS, belly button lint, OMGWTFPWNBBQ!!!!!!!!1!one!1!!1

You definitely need some lower AP weapons in that list. Grenade launchers have been pretty bad for about 2 decades. There are Steel Legion plasma gunners available at $10 each. If you want meltaguns (and who doesn't?), you'll have to bust out the dremel and convert. Also, lascannons are much better than missile launchers. If you can afford it, buy 3 blisters of Steel Legion lascannons and a Cadian Heavy Weapons squad box. Assemble the lascannon and autocannons on thier bases, but don't glue down the SL crewmen. This will allow you to swap lascannons or autocannons into your list. I know you're trying to make best use of what comes in the box, but just know that it will hurt you on the tabletop.

No one said Steel Legion would be easy

Wow. $10 per model? MAXIMUM GOUGING!
Instead of submitting to MAXIMUM GOUGING, I will instead use some spare Space Marine plasma guns.

Actually Codex: Armageddon expressly prohibited Steel Legion armies from fielding Ork Hunters and Hive Militia, as they are part of different regiments from the actual Steel Legions. (It was also a bit ambiguous about whether you could combine Ork Hunters and Hive Militia in the same army.)

Now, I need to smuggle my copy of Codex Armageddon out of my WAAC Tau friend's house.

Great to see others interested in Steel Legion. Everyone seems to be obsessed with DKOK these days & SL is often overshadowed. I myself have a SL army as I love their lore/aesthetics.

Or, you can do that But again, requires some dremel work! I went the easy way and got gouged. I did convert my own meltas, tho.

Codex: Armageddon?! Are you still using that? I meant more as an aesthetic choice. You wouldn't be actually using any special rules, you'd just paint up the vet squad and conscripts in your army to fit the part.

I mentioned Codex Armageddon since it's lists were fluff inspired. The Armageddon Steel Legion and Ork Hunters are totally separate regiments trained in totally different aspects of warfare in totally different environments. Sure regiments can and do get attachments from other regiments, but it would require a bureaucratic cockup for such diametrically opposed regiments to be paired up. Hence Codex: Armageddon expressly allowing Deathworld Veterans in Armageddon Infantry Companies but expressly precluding them from Steel Legion Companies.
