So I have just ordered myself the full WHFB Terrain from the GW range for my board at home. That includes:
1 Witchfate Tor Tower of Sorcery
1 Garden of Morr
1 Deathknell Watch
1 set of Arcane Ruins (assembled but needs green stuffing to fill holes)
1 set of Walls & Fences ( reviewed, removed from sprue, prepped, undercoated)
1 Magewrath Throne and Balewind Vortex
2 Citadel Wood (1 assembled, and prepped, some green stuff work required)
1 Dreadfire Portal and Eternity Stair

And varying accompanying paints to go with them.

Something I have been meaning to get for a few months now so that me and my friends dont play on open boards or boards with paper denoting terrain. I shall keep this blog upto date as it arrives and goes on. But that will take some time due to a tournament army being painted as well

Are you going to be mixing the kits up or just constructing/painting them?

It'd be very interesting if you tailored the models you got to fit the board, like the citadel wood growing over the Deathknell Watch, and so on.

I will be painting up some fantasy terrain for my FLGS pretty soon. I look forward to seeing what you do with yours!

Forgive me now! Tomorrow I may no longer feel guilty...

So with the arrival of the terrain, I decided to do a few unboxing as it came out of the delivery box.

First up: Fences and Walls

TBH I was a little disappointed to see the box this way as I am a fan of keeping the boxes for the stuff I buy and there is a full standard shop box for this kit.

Now as for the terrain itself. There is so much detailing its beautiful. But at the same time I fear it could take away from the armies on the board in itself. There is barely any flat surfaces on any of the sections which makes for a nice change. All the wood on the model is grains, scrathed and other wise worked where it needs to be. The sign posts each have a slightly unique feel to them, thanks to the small details of skull and shield.

All in all, I guess I'd say these are good pieces with lovely detailing. And if I had to give it a rating out of 5 it would be 4.5, then only let down for me personally being the box and a few pieces are alot more busy than needed.

So next out came the Arcane Ruins.

Another disappointing box for me.

The detail on most of this is lovely. Where its been appled anyway. My biggest gripe being that on the pillars there ois 2 faces that are flat and on 2 cases is going to need green stuffing to cover it up. This kit is a lot bigger than I thought it would be.

There was no instructions either, and while not a big issue as there really isn't much to do for assembly. Although due to this and the fact the first pillar I went to put together didn't line up I would strongly recommend dry assembly first, but there in lies another problem the dry assembly can cause damage to the locator pins in itself.

Overall 3 out 5. Nice medium sized kit, but a few flaws with the design and assembly let it down big time.

so decided a quick break from my tournament army is needed and had a quick round with the citadel woods.

the base plate is really nice, and very easy to paint. but the trees are a bit of a ball ache. 3 sets 1 for each hole, 12 holes on the trees themselves for customising with branches, but only 8 braches. and the leaves... my advice is you ever buy this set. don't use them

as for painting the base plate

Surprisingly easy to paint once base layers were done it was all washes and dry brushing

Nice job on the base. I put that tree set together once and did absolutely everything wrong with it. It was kind of a nightmare. I think there is a set in the terrain I will be painting up for my FLGS. I will be glad to get a chance to go back and do it up correctly.

Forgive me now! Tomorrow I may no longer feel guilty...

What kind of board do you use anyway? Home made or the GW tiles? There are none in your gallery of it.

Ah, the Witchfate Tor...I too have one of these. Though, I glued those pillars on to the sides of the tower (stuck just to the bottom floor) so that I could use the base as another type of scenery (without the tower on it) I figured its got such cool detail on it, why hide it inside the tower all the time?

im keeping all the floors individual for mine so thats why i glued the pillars to eb the base, but even this way the base can be several terrain pieces itself
