So of late I've been getting my feet wet with 1000 and 1500 pt games, but I've been busy buying and painting and I'm approaching enough for 2400. This is my first crack, and I'm looking for feedback.

Counts – 2306/2400
Lords – 671
Vampire Lord – 426
Red Fury, Quickblood, Sword of Might, Talisman of Preservation, The Other Trickster’s Shard, Enchanted Shield, Heavy Armour, Level 1
Necromancer – 245
Level 4, Dispel Scroll, Master of the Dead

Core – 610
40x Skeletons – 230
Full Command
30x Crypt Ghouls – 310
Crypt Ghast
20x Zombies – 70
Musician, Standard Bearer

Special – 560
40x Grave Guard – 560
Great Weapons, Full Command, Banner of the Barrows

Rare – 465
Terrorgheist – 225
Mortis Engine – 240
Blasphemous Tome

I've been often told to remove the Mortis Engine in favor of something else. Maybe some black knights or something. While I'm open to that, the model is just so bloody gorgeous I like having it on the table. Other than that, fire away!

Looks solid. My one bit of advice would be to throw in some to redirect and pressure backfield support units- bats, undead doggies, and spirit hosts are some of the best in the game. You could drop the zombies and/or cut down on the bigger blocks to afford them.

It also helps to give you an advantage on deployment.

Also, you're over 25% on your Lords slot. Obv. doesn't matter if you're playing with 50% lords as per the new FAQz

Which lore of magic did you have in mind?

With MotD, I assume vampires to raise back skellies.

Just for a giggle:

Give the Vampire Lord, Lore of Undeath. (Signature spell Ryze, 100 points of infantry)
And the Necromancer Lore of Vampires. (Invocation, D6 + caster's level in extra models!)

One wizard (Lord) creates the unit and the next one (Nercro) enhances it!

!!

I like the mortis engine. Nothing wrong with giving your graveguard a regen save. I would do lore of vampires on both characters to you have 2 attempts at invocation, one of them being on a +6 to cast if near the mortis engine. So as long as you don't roll a double it will go off without bad things happening to you.

Only really works with zombies, but considering you get 33 zombies on the 100 point version of Ryze, you probably won't need to many more.

First to everyone, thanks for the feedback!

I do like having the zombies around as a cheap caster bunker for the necromancer, but as of right now I have a spare 96 points in the list. My thinking with that is two minimum sized chaff units of pups, and with the other 14... not entirely sure. My thinking is that I could change up the vampires gear to be the armour of destiny instead of the talisman of preservation, and use the talisman option for a seed of rebirth. 6+ regen, but 5+ if near the mortis engine. I figure that's probably worth going from a 3+ to a 4+ armor seeing as he would keep the 4++ ward.

You take a regen or a ward save, never both.

Also, you have 94 points left not 96.

The Lord's your running is very close to what I have done lately and had great success.
lord vampire-red fury quick blood, additional hand weapon tali of pres and a potion of strength

lvl 4 necromancer with black priept.

they fit into 625 for non end times games, and I keep running into the dam world dragon anger every time I play high elves so this way my vampire lord can slap the grin off those knife ears lol

ever thought of bat swarms? ASL is a b!tch and they hover 10 inches and they can't March anyways so they don't need a babysitter

I'm more of a fan of ogre blade or sword of strife (depending who I'm playing). Though I have heard sword of anti-heroes is good aswell but haven't used it yet personally. I don't use a mortis engine but most people run them in support of crypt horrors so they never die. If you're not against undead legions I'd consider dropping the engine, running a necrotect in either your ghoul or GG unit for hatred, and taking a casket of souls. Should have extra points leftover too to grab a better sword for your Vlord

50% Lords/heroes has been FAQ'd, so dont' need to be 'end times' games to play them

Looks very good to me, just a few minor nitpicks:

30 Skeletons aren't going to do much, even with Master of the Dead. You'll get more mileage out of two more units of 20 Zombies, or even a large unit of 40. Skeletons should always be taken at least 40+, or not at all.

You're also slightly over on your Core, try and get it down to as close to 600 as possible. To that end, I'd drop the Skeletons and replace them with just enough Zombies to fill up your Core.

Dropping the 35pts of Core, plus master of the Dead, will give you 56 points to play with. Dropping a single Grave Guard and a Fell Bat will take this to 84, if I'm not mistaken. You could spend this on a Spirit Host and another unit of 2 Fell Bats, another Lvl1 Necromancer (which could mean you take Death on the Lvl4) and Beguile on your Vamp Lord, a Cairn Wraith or a Tomb Banshee (if you drop something else) or any combination of the above things. Just trimming the fat a little, and making sure you're on minimum core, means you can squeeze in a surprising amount of stuff.

Hope this helps, any more questions, feel free to ask!
