This is a list I've been tinkering over for some time and has seen some pretty big changes, but the core idea has stayed relatively the same, with one major variation (4). It's for my first full army to get to grips better with the game after a hiatus since 4th ed. It's generally for pick up games and to bring to local gaming clubs, rather than tournaments. There are several things I want to stay away from (fliers, grav cents, ect) that I don't like because they don't feel like they fit the theme and my personal tastes, but I don't want it to suck. I don't like fliers, but want to make sure that in case my opponent brings one, I'm not screwed.

If you are looking for ground-based AA, have you considered a hunter/stalker?

Out of preference I'll be avoiding playing against fliers where possible. If I went for hunters or stalkers though, they'd be near useless unless I played against lists without fliers (or skimmers) so I figured to go for a list that can handle one just in case.

With that in mind, I figured 4 could do that with 2 TL lascannons, 4 lascannons and 4 TL autocannons.

What do you consider to be the best one overall?

After abit more consideration I've decided against list 2, and written another capitalising IWND saturation.

Remove Tri-las predator - and go for the Str 7 w 4 shot rending auto cannons. that gives you flexibility to also take down hordes / groups of termies / more shots against lower armored opponents. BUT... it does have a lower range.

Idea - why not run an aegis line of defense w/ comms relay for 70 points? You can put your predators and rifleman behind the aegis line to give them a 4+ cover save AND you can reroll your reserve / deep striking troops. It would be a huge gain to your already glorious survivability.

Drop the lib and get a MOTF. Play to the advantages of the iron hands. Also, get a Stormraven in there and put the MOTF in it.

I'm now more swayed towards a captain, after putting together an awesome conversion.

Could drop the plasma cannon to upgrade the DP squads to plasma and give the captain an auspex? But then I feel I'd be light on AT. Either that or drop the plasma cannon and 5 additional marines on the rhino squad for an assault squad with dual flamers and jump packs?
