Subject: Guards of Atlantis - New Table top Skirmish game, Developers In Thread
Info Checklist: Release/Kickstarter Date:Unknown; possible early December KS Material:Plastic Scale:70mm Rules:Non released or previewed Current Planned Price:Full game with pre-painted miniatures: $170 Full Game with miniatures needing assembly and painting: $150 Buying only the figure, unpainted and un-assembled: $70-$120
11/11 A few days ago I came across a few renders while surfing and discovered the FB page, and eventually the company and game websites. It seems that Wolff Designa has been around since 2007 as a design studio, and at some point recently over a year ago began the development of their skirmish game: Guards of Atlantis. In November 2013 they took a trip to China to scout out a manufacturing partner for future production, and to learn how to produce the miniatures. Currently it is too early to tell what material the miniatures would be in. Recently in August, GoA won 1st place for new projects at Unicon Latvia.
Spoiler:
For the past year or so, Wolff has been developing the 3D renders for their miniatures, and with a 3D printer, printing out prototypes:
Spoiler:
This appears to be at least 75mm or 90mm and a display piece or one of the Steamer Guild soldiers. Render:
Print:
Painted:
Right now 2 of the more developed factions are the Steamer Guilds and Dark Alpha Kingdom:
From the looks of it, Guards of Atlantis is going to be a squad sized skirmish game that uses a hexagon board style, and will eventually include 18 different factions:
Spoiler:
The way this may be sold (at least at the start) is in 2 faction starter kits:
Spoiler:
11/21 GoA uploaded a short video detailing what's going to be included in the box:
Game set will include: gamebox, two sided convertible map, hexes, dices, interactive unit cards, rule book & mission pack, campaign story board comics book and figures. Default 10 mini's, and depending on success of the Ks, that may go up to 20.
Also as stated on their FB page the Kickstarter prices will be:
Full game with pre-painted miniatures: $170 Full Game with miniatures needing assembly and painting: $150 Buying only the figure, unpainted and un-assembled: $70-$120
Scale will be 70mm, and will most likely not be producing them in 32mm.
Those are very nice, dare I say gorgeous in some cases! My question though is the size? Cuz the female painted Guild member looks huge in front of that keyboard.

Yeah that looks like it is a display size model from the looks of it when compared to the main figures (There are a few old one in the pictures as well that are from when they traveled to China that are around 100mm.

The sculpts look really great, but they do also look really tall.. it looks like they could be 40mm or even taller unless the angle just makes them look taller than they are?

Well looking at the sections on the map/bored its 11 across so if these were sized to go on 25-30mm bases it would only be just over a foot across and 2 foot long so im guessing those are going to be 60mm bases and the figures 75-90mm the same size as the painted prototype is.

So pretty much limited to only using them in this game. Seems quite a negative factor for a company starting out. There'd be a much broader customer base by doing them in a more mainstream scale.
Gonna be pricey...

Yeah if 70mm is the game size scale that sadly makes it more of a "boutique" game.Though I have always admired companies attempts to create a game in the larger scales like 54mm and up it just becomes a little to specific in its uses ( I like alot of the old inquisitor stuff and smog minis) but your cross over sales become pretty much non existent :( still they are lovely sculpts!

I'm hoping they end up switching to a smaller scale as I'm sure I'm not the only one who would pick up a few army factions for the crossover usage, and would gladly play the game if the rules we solid.

Those sculpts won't really work in a smaller scale though. There are lots of parts that would be too small/thin when scaled down, and I don't think they could be effectively manufactured at a ~35mm 'scale'.

Which they could do anyway, plenty of companies do, but 70mm is taking special snowflakery to a whole new level. That's around the size which is normally considered as being aimed exclusively at competition painters and collectors. Still, I suppose it's better that they make stuff that is completely out of scale with what most people use than these companies recently which have decided to make models which almost fit in with normal 30-32mm models and the sculpts for which would easily work at that size, but are deliberately made just too big to work well.

On the facebook,
the creator say the battle pack ( who contain the 7 steam guild model and six dark alpha model , but no confirmation , is my personal speculation ) will between cost 150 to 170 $.
No news on what material they will use( i hope metal). Anyone know more ?

Most likely there will be 8 models per faction: http://goa.aq/dark_alfas So potentially 16 models as well as the game materials for $170 isn't a bad deal. If they end up going to 32mm, that will be fantastic.
As to the material, nothing has been stated yet, but on their company website it says they work with Nicem, which is a great spin caster company. So either metal or resin is likely if they keep doing that. However they did take a trip out to China last year and potentially already have a partner already for production, so that may make other materials possible.
