Hello,

Looking for comments and criticisms on these models. Haven't based them yet, they are just test paints for late war British and I'll be using the German as both mid war and late war.

I'm reasonably happy with the overall quality, mostly just looking for comments and criticism on the schemes themselves and any changes I should make before I venture out to bulk paint more of them. I'm not an expert on this stuff, I mostly looked at pictures of models other people painted and tried to emulate the colours.

Thanks!

Do you mean I painted them too green or not green enough?

I used Vallejo's "German Uniform", but it struck me as being on the greener side, so I mixed it with some "Neutral Grey" to tone it down a bit, the trousers and hat are done the same way but with even more Neutral Grey mixed in to further tone it down just for a bit of variation.

German infantry uniforms were quite green as seen in this reenactor's replica, but the exact color could vary according to the quality of the uniform, etc.

Both uniforms will work wonders, the way I see it. If you want rock-hard consistency and spend a little less time on the German guys, then Vallejo has a paint called "Green Grey" or something that could be worth looking into.

Great job on both!

I always find Vallejo German Field Grey to be useful when painting German Field Grey.

I think the models look ace dude.

I did consider Vallejo's Field Grey but my local hobby store didn't have any and I couldn't be bothered waiting for it to ship from an online store

From my understanding the early war stuff is more green (like Vallejo's "German Uniform") and late war stuff is more grey (like Vallejo Field Grey), but then the Eastern Front summer uniform was actually more green as well (Reed Green, which I think is again closer to Vallejo's "German Uniform").

So I just ended up mixing some neutral grey in to German Uniform colour to tone it down. My hobby store said he'd get in Field Grey (as he's happy to carry anything that's a military colour) so maybe I'll swing by the shop tomorrow and see if he's got it in yet.

My Germans were actually going to be mid to late 1943 eastern front, but I think my mate wanted to go with a late war western front army, so I figured I'd just let them do double duty rather than painting another whole force of the exact same models but slightly more grey

Reed Green were fatigue denims, that were sometimes worn in combat and are reputed to have faded to 'piss-yellow' as one soldier once recalled.

Stonegrey trousers really are an early war thing, not really seen after that.

I wouldnt worry too much, think it works and it says 'German' when you see him. Field Grey varied hugely in colour.

Oh and the ammo pouches on the German should be black.

Brown was only issued with the tropical uniform.

Incidently British 37 pattern webbing seems to have been mainly blanco'ed to a green late war, though the beige certainly still was seen.

I did my British in the same style as yours as the beige adds a nice striking contrast.

I've posted this image before in other threads, but it's a good example of how much Field Gray could vary.

All of these blouses are Field Gray.

Absolutely stunning paint-job, very nice work.

Completely agree with the grey/green comments, I think there is more than enough room for manoeuvre to make your scheme historically valid.

In the end that's basically what I figured

I figured I'd do some models with stone grey trousers and some with field grey because I had read that they made a ton of them and were still seen throughout the war, just more rare at the end of the war.

Doh! Thanks for picking up on that for me, I just copied the brown from someone else's Grenadiers... I did like the way the brown contrasted with the green, but if they weren't actually brown I'll swap it to black. I could have painted the Zeltbahn slightly brighter which will help a bit with the contrast.

Oh ok, I had seen them in pictures varying from biege to green, that explains why!
