Just stopping by to say hello and get a bit of feedback. First off I would like to say your guys Flames of war intro thread is really well done and helpful, I really appreciated it. I played flames a couple years ago with a soviet strelkovy army an I did not really enjoy it to much, now that I am getting back into the game I am looking to build a LW SS armored group, I build this 1870pt list and just wanted to get some opinions and critiques on it, I was trying to keep the model count down on this aswell,

Compulsory Company HQ - CinC Tiger I (P) (285 pts)

Compulsory Elefant Platoon - Command Elefant, Elefant (600 pts)

Panzer Platoon - Command Panzer IV H, 4x Panzer IV H (450 pts)

Assault Gun Platoon - Command StuG G, 3x StuG G (380 pts)

SS Panzergrenadier Platoon - Command MG, Kfz 15 field car, 4x MG, 2x Kfz 70 truck (155 pts)

1870 Points, 4 Platoons

It is based on the 653. Schwere Panzerjägerabteilung briefing.

If you are looking for a list to have fun with this seems good. If you are going for competitive you are in trouble. All it takes is priority air support, any infantry unit rated TA 4 or artillery to ruin your day. Aside from your PZ IHs your other armored units don't have enough MG shots to reliably get 5 hits to cause an assault to fail.

Since it is free and you have several high AT guns make those StuGs 42s. Yes one less AT but you get breakthrough guns.

Use those extra points to make your Panzergrens pioneers. Pioneers are TA 4 so if you need them to go grab an objective held by or to defend one against armor you are safe.

Infantry heavy lists are going to give you fits. Against another armored list you are going to have a field day.

1870 is an odd choice of points.

Whilst the list is interesting it's got a couple of big weakness's I think.

If you're attacking an army of dug in veteran infantry how do you shift them? You have no way to soften them up by using recon to lift gone to ground, or push back ambushes. You also leave your lighter vehicle open to AT fire as they advance, a source of smoke would be good, and your big expensive vehicles are very vulnerable to air.

Also for getting the initiative in deployment I think you want about 6 platoons - otherwise your opponent places two artillery platoons and then reacts to your deployment with his combat units

Thanks for the feedback guys, I have taken what has been said into account and remade the list, I cant seem to find a way to fill the last 15 points. I decided to axe the assault gun platoon in favor for an extra infantry platoon aswell as a small AA detachment. I wanted to go with infantry with mortars attached but this army list does not seem to have access to mortars so I went with a small 2 gun artillery battery. Any feedback ? I am still brand new to making lists, would what I have done remedy the initial soft spots in my first list ? Thanks again

Consider this as an option

Hq - tiger P
2 elephants
3 squad motorcycle recon + Faust
2 SdKfz 7/1
3 15cm nebelwerfers + transports
5 heer panzer 4's
2 pioneer squads (panzer pioneer platoon)

This is 1780 list (sensible value) - it's not an amazing list but can work. You can assault infantry forces defending objectives though. The recon can lift gone to ground and push back ambushes, the 7/1's can keep the skies clear (kind of) the nebelwerfers are great for smoke - and 5 panzer 4's always work well!

You do have three high end AT vehicles, and the pioneers bring you to an even number of platoons for half on/half off missions

With a list like the one above sitting at 1780 is there any reason to not use the remaining 220 points and round out to the 1900 late war tournament point by upgrading units ?

Depends if you want to play at that value. In the UK a lot of events are refusing to go that high as most think it's not fun and there's only one 'official event' anyway.

If I was to expand I'd drop the pioneers for a Gepanzerte panzergren platoon (SS I think is 220) and use the last 100 for a stuka
