Hi, new player looking to start flames of war. Done a couple of games with open fire and am thinking about getting Finland for my first army, more specifically late war. Wondering if people here have any advice for me, such as what are good choices, as well what books to use. As it is very difficult i've found to find what is what. Also found this http://www.flamesofwar.com/portals/0/documents/briefings/lapin-sota-finns.pdf on the FOW website and wondering whether it is also in any books, and whether it is legal to play. Thanks for any help.

My thoughts on Finland in all stages of the war

Basically you will almost always be outnumbered, and it really feels like outgunned! You really want the character 'torni' he's in mid war (eastern front and PDF) and late war (grey wolf and PDF) - I love him leading an infantry team upgraded to recce and with SMG's as this makes them a really hard assault unit!

You also want as much AT assets as possible, like Pak40's or T34/85's - and as much in the infantry as possible like panzerfausts.

Also you want smoke from mortars and artillery to help cover your advance and limit incoming fire.

Finns are a great army, and can be used offensively and defensively but do have a bit of a learning curve

Any experience with the EW lists you have worked on? I have a tourney coming up and thought it was late war. Now I find out its EW and 300 points smaller, so I'm scrambling.

What points value? I've used them as my main EW army so have some experience.

The best unit I find are the pioneers, and the k76 artillery

Bofors are situational. If your opponent lacks air they're next best used against light vehicles, however their rules make them best used defensively.

defeat. It would seem that stupidity is as eternal as war.'

Even in Early War? I would have thought that at 65 points and 5/5+ they would make for at least passable AT guns vs light tankovy hordes. I would prefer the Bofors, but the 40pts are hard to come by.
