I'm looking at this purchase to start building a fun/competitive AM army...

Metal Command Squad (The one with the wounded guy, Banner, Officer, Comms guy, Doctor)
3 Auto Cannon Teams
3 Lascan Teams
5 Converted Missile Launcher teams (1 guy carrying a ML and another with a rocket)
65 Assorted IG Infantry.
2 Scout Sentinels

What else does this lot lack?
I'm not sure if the infantry is enough, but most definitely will be needing more vehicles and tanks like Russes and such.

I'm also looking at MT with the big Scions box with 2 Taurox and a flyer. Unsure yet as to how I'll go about starting this IG force.
The MT models look really cool, so does the AM ones.. I just have to have an idea on what goes first and which goes where.

putting fun and competitive together could be complicated but take what you want and make it count then.

if you want to go MT allies I would consider to read some tactical reviews of them, but loading them with plasma launchers and packing them in a valk/vendetta or let them deepstrike with meltas is good to ( but consider having the command squad taking on the tanks ) But to make it short, use the MT to plug holes AFTER you done your AM list. Or try to compensate their strenghts: MT= lack of big guns, AM= lack of precision units or lack anti-meq. the one should compensate the other.

And if you go competitive, you might have some chimeras with veterans inside. AND TANKS BY THE EMPRAH ! and flyers

I run a mech list, so I like my tanks. A chimera for the command squad is important, on foot they're easy targets for first blood + slay the warlord. While you're running infantry, maybe get a regimental banner to re-roll morale tests.

A couple must-haves to start:

- chimeras, at least one for the command squad, maybe more if you want to run veterans for troops.

- Priests (or commissars), while you've got lots of infantry you need to make sure they don't run away. People will usually combine the regular guardsmen into larger blob squads of 20-50 men. At the start, maybe try 20 guardsmen with heavy weapons and a commissar (for ld 9 orders) and 20 conscripts with a priest (for close combat buffs).

- Special weapons troopers, you'll need these if you don't have models for them. Put flamers or grenade launchers with guardsmen. Plasma or melta guns for veterans and Company Command Squads (CCS). Sniper rifles are best in Platoon Command Squads (PCS) or special weapons squads.

- Wyvern, personally I plan to convert a rhino into a mortar tank (think like a m113 mortar carrier) to save some $$. The wyvern is a great unit, offering accurate long-range fire support for your infantry.

- Leman Russ, at least one. The best choice is probably the executioner with it's three plasma blasts. I think the demolisher kit comes with the bits to make the demolisher, punisher, and executioner. The executioner will be good in almost every game. The demolisher is ok in most games, but is best as an insurance policy since it can kill pretty much anything you'll face. Punisher is good if you take him as a tank commander or with Pask. If you buy some small magnets you can swap out the turrets each game instead of gluing the guns on (check out the Painting & Modeling pages). The leman russ kit allows you to build an eradicator, vindicator, battle tank, and exterminator. I run an eradicator in almost every game, it's the cheapest leman russ and is great for spewing out firepower. Vindicator is decent if you run it as a tank commander. The battle tank gets a bad rap but can make a real difference against Marines and Chaos. The exterminator is probably not worth the points

I think those are the real key additions. You could put the heavy weapons into heavy weapons teams, but most people would recommend putting them in command and guard squads.

Yeah definitely get at least a tank or two in there and at least one APC. Personally I'd recommend that whatever tank you chose have some sort of anti-vehicle capability, whether that is manifested in the main gun or a front mounted lascannon.

You say Fiery Crash! I say Dynamic Entry!

*Increases Game Point Limit by 100*: Tau get two Crisis Suits and a Firewarrior. Imperial Guard get two infantry companies, artillery support, and APCs.

It's either the first listed purchase OR this one:

2x
5-Man Command Squad

2x
2 10-man

2x
Leman Russ Tanks

I don't think I'll be able to get a chimera. (So that one will have to follow, along with Scions and maybe a Wyvern)
As for the Primaris Psykers, I find it hard to get one where I live. Probably try and get one or two when I visit places with better availability of models.
Pushing for the more competitive list, I'm leaning towards this list purchase cause it gives me a platoon and 2 tanks. Although there are NO heavy weapons... (I'm iffy about that part)
Will probably get a Comissar model as soon as I decide which deal to push through with.
And as for this purchase/list, I plan on using the Russes as Eradicators for max power. No plans on running a Tank Commander atm.

Follow-up question: Which is a better deal, the first one or this one?

This one will give me two tanks. While that other one does have the heavy weapons. I'm confused and unsure as to which one is more important. And which deal will eventually save me more money. (If I have to buy new boxes of either heavy units or tanks, etc)

EDIT:

I'm thinking if it's worth getting both deals. But then I might have more infantry than I would ever need...
