After some time away from power armored forces, i've come circle back to the adeptus astartes. Or, to be abit more specific to the warriors of the fang, the Space Wolves. I had a small force of them several years ago, but they have long since been sold off. This time around, i thought that i would give it a different paint scheme then the one before hand, something a little closer to the studio's idea of how they should look. I haven't yet decided if im going to model them after one of the existing great companies, (even though i have Krom) or if i'll be going with my own custom wolf lord. So far i've painted up two different models as a basis to see just what i can do. Now i'd like to see what Dakka thinks of my work.

What’s up with the first guy’s hair? Did you use the same pattern for both minis? Or is it just the lighting? But the terminator seems a lot darker. Which I like. The PA guy looks like a run of the mill SW. Not that that’s a bad thing, he’s a well executed paint job on a basic trooper. But the TDA marine seems a little dark and moody. There is a story there, he’s got something going on. Just feels more character-full; not your stock off the shelf puppy.

Technically, the yellow on his shoulder looks a little rough. could use more, thinner coats. And I’ll also toss in the other two of the big 3 generic Dakka P&M bits of advice (even though I play fast and loose with them myself). Drill your gunbarrels and don’t forget to base.

First guy stumbled a little bit, got the chain sword a little too close to his hair.. it was a sad day for all involved. The two are painted up with the same formula, So i'm assuming that its just a trick of the lighting. The difference between taking the photo at One PM, and One AM. Might just be the black accents that add to that darker feel, not sure.

Yeah, i'm aware that the yellow is a little rough, by product of wanting to just get it finished off late at night and not paying close enough attention to what i was doing while trying to avoid the painted crux. Drilling, Yeah, i should, if i can find my drill any time soon. Basing, no idea how i want to base them yet, so until then, they will be trampling over the black void of nothingness.

Bit of an update here. I've fleshed out my first five man Grey Hunter pack. I decided on this one to go with a Plasma hunter theme. 2 Plasma Pistols, and a Plasma Gun. Now the only thing i haven't settled down on yet (aside from the basing, Shush.) Is the color of the plasma. Im thinking i may go with a red color for the glow, not sure yet. I will also need to settle on pack markings and great company markings, something that will end up pulling the shoulder pads in and just making them look that much better.

I think they look great so far.

Are you thinking of doing any battle damage or weathering on the models, or would you prefer to leave them newish/shiny standard for their armour?

For right now, I think that i'll be leaving them as they are. I'd like to weather them, but I don't have any experience in doing it, and I don't want to muck them up too much.

This video shows the basics of weathering/damage:

Concerning Imperial plasma weapons, I like to think that the ribbing along the sides are electromagnetic components and I paint mine metal. If they change color, it would be to dull red as they absorb heat from both the tremendous amounts of electricity going through them and the plasma ball they propel.

Hello dakka, its been a while!

I've been working on my next squad, a unit of five wolf guard in power armor, all armed with power weapons. I've got them just about finished now, just need to hit the few gems and then decided what effect i want for the power weapons. While i was working on getting them built, i noticed that one of the heads looked a little.. familiar, after watching several episodes of the Walking Dead.. Does anyone else see this? Well that's all for now!

As for easy weathering on power armor (because painting rivets like the included video is a bit easier). I have found a lot of luck using a pencil to create the effect of metal showing through on the armor.

The graphite (after washing and sealing) gives a really good and easy look that you get to put exactly where you mean to!

If I were to start a Space Marine army I'd probably go with the wolves. They're pretty awesome looking
