I already have presented this project in another thread but since we are about to start a kickstarter campaign I took the liberty to open a new one. I would like to thank the dakka community for its feedback during those months, your help and support were really appreciated. Thank you very much !

We are launching our kickstarter campaign on December the 18th !

Createyourminis is about letting you design your own 28mm miniatures (1:56 precisely) through our website. You choose the type of model you want, like man or woman, then select the clothes, the weapon, the equipment. Once you are done, you choose how the weapon is held then select a pose among the compatible poses.

After you wait a couple of minutes for the model to be built then you can visualize it, order it or save it to be modified or ordered later.

Our possibilities are (almost) limitless !

Among the numerous features, the most important in regard of this kickstarter campaign is the possibility to add symbols on some flat elements, usually shields, torso armors or shoulder pads. You can even add those symbols on some elements of the weapon sprue so you can convert other miniatures. If you back this project you can even provide us with a symbol we will add to our database so you can personalize your miniatures even more !

Try it and tell us what you think !

Looks interesting, and the prices seem comparable to other services (for those of us without 3D Printer access).

Interesting, though I suspect you need to offer a single model option, or at least something between $1-35 that allows those mildly interested and only wanting a character model for their army.

In fact what would be killer is if you could make a module or website that allows people to play with the creation of a model, without the option of printing it.

You need to have an option for completely naked females.
I think this would be a must have option for us who want to create our own armour or clothes (or just leave as is hur hur hur...).

I could see myself making Sisters Repentia using a service like this. They are pretty much naked but covered in scrolls and chains so a naked base would be preferred and then I could create the scrollwork clothes myself.

What about us with modeling skill, will there be an option to contribute to the library? What if I make a really awesome weapon I want my model to wield, would it be possible to submit it for review and then you could add it to the library?

You definitely need more scythes in the library, like 10 different versions for both sci fi and fantasy

You also need to add more faces and expressions. Also need more body types, not sure if your system supports sliders to scale parts.

Idea is cool, I've seen 2 other kickstarters attempt this but never reaching their goals.

Actually now that mad cow mentions it. Is their a option for naked men? I would love some big beefy naked dudes for chaos marauders! Or at least wearing a banana hammock.

A chip and Dale assassination squad for necromunda would be amazing.

I just became 10 times more interested in this campaign.

Out of curiosity when would things like Wave 5 be shipping? I understand the desire to put higher backers first but if it was something of a delay of months rather than weeks it'd kill any desire I had to back the project.

Ooooh, the option to buy several dozen posed muscly naked male models would be ideal as a basis for servitor or Skitarii conversions; I'll second the motion.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?

We thought of giving the possibility to buy only one model, but in that case people would have to pay more in shipping than in miniatures. I guess we will have to add it before the launch.

MadCowCrazy wrote:You need to have an option for completely naked females.

But you can have a naked woman! For the female body type you can change the underwear through the body. You can have a body with bland underwear, with sexy underwear, fully naked or a mix.

The only thing is, you have to specify that you want a naked woman, you won't be able to say it's a wardrobe malfunction

MadCowCrazy wrote:

We can't add an option to automatically submit new elements because they have to be compatible. For instance when we add a new weapon, once the 3D model is done we still have a couple of hours of work to tell the system how it will be held. They are also limitation of 3 kinds :
Our system, while very permissive, can't accept too exotic models.
The model has to be 3D printable, so nothing too thin or non watertight.
Some weapons look really good on their own but simply cannot be held. A rifle with a butt too long for example.

Besides, models submitted like that can be of a really low standard.

That said, maybe we will do some contests where anyone can show their creations and we will adapt the most popular ones. But for that we need to have a community large enough to do polls and the like, I hope we will reach that level soon!

MadCowCrazy wrote:

Scythes are laking indeed, I just added the suggestion to our (long) list of things to do. But I'm not quite sure we will do 10 models in the next months...

MadCowCrazy wrote:

We always need more, in our todo list (before scythes) we have more heads with expression. Body types require a lot more work so we will add more but before we have to be sure to know what people want the most. We really need to be able to do polls...

MadCowCrazy wrote:

Interesting, I saw 2 as well, one that succeed (hero forge I think) and one with only hand drawings and promises. None of them had a working website though.

An anatomically correct pelvis for men was on plan since the beginning, it was just forgotten. I wonder why in our work discussions nobody either said “I want penises!!!”...

Wave 5 should be able to order around July. Of course it's a “kickstarter estimation”. We did add what we think to be a rather large safety margin. Maybe it won't look as large down the road or maybe I'm being pessimistic and you will be able to order it as soon as May. We just have to buy the materials after all, obviously our website works and the 3D models are built.

The idea is more a refrence to the naked celtic beserkers you see in historicals. I do hope you fix the pelvis on this guy. Dosen't look great.

Just a precision, we won't “fix” the pelvis, we will give you another choice. By the way the small line you see around the waist is just a problem with the light, it's not on the model. You can see it on the side, there is no gap between the pelvis and the torso.

It was brought to our attention that usually early birds have a smaller discount and a higher limit number, otherwise backers leave negative comments.

I admit we overlooked that kind of thing, so we will half the discount and double the limit numbers, unless we see comments that change our mind back.

This has no bearing on the system at all, but I have to ask. Is there a reason the campaign is in CAD?

I played with the creator in the past, and I liked it. I could see myself going for a few minis.

After taking into account various feedback, we did the following changes:

- We added a pledge level for 1 miniature
- We halved the discounts for early birds and double their limits.
- We removed the shipping cost, it will be charged at the order, when we will actually be able to ship the miniatures. At that time we will know exactly how much it will cost us, therefore we will be able to charge you a fairer price. Furthermore, you won't have to pay it upfront.

the shipping will cost around:
France: €9
European Union and Switzerland: €14
Rest of the world : €18

megatrons2nd wrote:Can you do wings, snake tail instead of legs, a tail attachment to normal legs, and male Horned heads? What are the limits to the program?

Our main limitation right now are models with multiple poses, for instance a rider and his steed (both can have a pose). We got ideas on how to deal with that but we are not ready to add that update yet.

Depending on how it will work, we might be able to mix snake tails or wings with human bodies. If not, we will still be able to add snake tails + human torso but we will have to make it a new body type.

Horned head are not a problem, in fact there is an horned head for female model.

We are based in France and kickstarter campaign can't be launched from here. We tried from the UK, using a friend as proxy but some laws prevent it (anti money laundering laws). So we use bridgestarter, a compagny that do exaclty what we are looking for, launching kickstarter for people who can't. They are based in Canada.

Snake "legs" would be awesome... as would Centaur legs Also different body profiles (strong man, half-giant, dwarf, etc...) would be great!

Also, I am assuming there will be "versions" of all the male clothes for the female models? In case I want a mixed, but coherent, unit?

Could you make sleeves that look like more muscled arms? The current arms look a bit thin when we use the sleeveless shirts.

Well, after playing around with it a little, my main points are these: (it will look like a rant, but its really not, this is constructive criticism on where you can improve, the concept itself is amazing, the performance is pretty good and its the details that bother me)

First thing first-the preview can be bigger with little to no effort. and it should as some things are hard to spot without it (for example some poses with some parts have slight imperfections) also, some parts (armor herladies for example) seem to malfunction in the preview, but than work properly in the finished model.

An EDIT option for your models (for thoes who singed on and saved models), as well as copy/paste would be amazing as a way to quickly make whole squads of models who are not identical.

Some parts need to be separated to multiple parts, for example the female plate armor/corset torso and the "skull belt" thingy need to be separate pieces, as wanting one but being bothered by the other seems likely.

Some parts need a new designation so they can be mixed along with other parts who are currently labled as the same slot, for example the hoods and the helmets, so you can make a hood+helmet dude (DA style) and trenchcoats (so you can make armor+trenchcoat combo)

To extend the above two, all cape/coat-type should also be separated from armors/shirts-so you can match any cape/coat with any armor/shirt. same goes for belts.
Your selling point is infinite computability although at what will probably end up a substantial price, so you'll do yourself a favor by braking up the pieces to as small objects as you can.

In another note, female body parts mainly in the pelvis zone suffer from a "G-string effect", as in everything has an underline that looks like a G-string underneath. you might want to address that and bulk up the parts a bit in order to erase it.

A sever lack of options in some parts (armored gloves and boots for example), while understandable as this is a mere beta and I expect you to add more as time goes on, they are definitely needed for verity sakes.
Also, some obvious sets such as 40k compatible power armor does not exist, but this again will probably be simply a "more parts are coming" deal.
And I'd like to second (third? forth?) the call for more body bases, but that would probably be a long way away as each body type needs its own parts to match and his own poses.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

We will test several options to find the best one, probably we will be able to lower the price. But the sad reality is the number of miniatures is almost meaningless, you pay mostly for the shipping of the carton box since it's what weight the most. If we manage to make it weight less than 250gr the price will be significantly lower but the box has to be big enough for the miniatures and the protection.

BoomWolf wrote:

Once you have saved a model it's fixed, but you can always create models based on previous ones. If you click on the “see details” button of one of your saved model you can see its part and if you change some of them you create a new model, the original isn't altered.

All of those fall into the same category: compromise
We could make the preview bigger but the preview would take longer. The preview was meant to be ugly but fast, it can be prettier but it will be slower. Maybe we will change that when we have new servers.

Trenchcoat + armor was our first idea but the coat needed to be too big to accomodate the various armors.

For the rest, we had to find a compromise between technical difficulties, good looking clothes (better when the cloth is only 1 part), friendly UI, speed to create a new element,...

BoomWolf wrote:

Everybody wants new choices, we want new choices too! But right now I can only hope for our Kickstarter to meet a success great enough to hire new people, increase in productivity by whipping 3D artists can only go so far...

Well, as said. these are mostly things I expect to evolve in time.

And the editing option might need a new button that clearly writes "edit" on it, I feel silly for not figuring it out myself XD

And for smething else, looking at the kickstarter itself this time I am having a hard time understanding the reasoning there, why is something that is such an oddlot "fantasy football" with probably low demant your first goal, and the big ticket sellers like steampunk, and orks are later on?

Also I suggest that your highest pledge won't be restricted to a weapon, but allow a custom helmet too-I suspect that unique by-deman helmets would sell better than weapons-as in many models the gun is secondary, but the helmet is a defining feature.
(maybe even having a "custom part" as a separate sell that one can buy multiple off if he really wants something special for himself that requires multiple custom parts)

And prices in canadian dollars confuse me. why? it serves no purpose I can see, and might turn people away (they read "dollars" and neglect the difference between canadian and american)

Also, I don't want to insult anyone, but the voice in the video is more offputting than inviting X_X
