Hi everyone. I'm a very new player to Fantasy, starting up my first army after playing 40k for a few years.

There's a series of 1000pt tournaments in the coming year I'd like to play in to get a taste of the game properly. I've fallen in love with the idea of a cavalry charge, and especially with the Dragon Prince models!

So I've come up with a potential 1000pt list as a starting point. Being the new player that I am, I would love to hear some feedback from some of the more experienced players. It sounds good *to me* on paper, but then again it may be utter tripe.

[Heroes]
Lord - 140pts
- Barded Elven Steed, Dragon Armour, Shield of the Merwyrm, Star Lance

[Core]
Ellyrian Reavers x7 - 143pts
- Harbinger
- Spear, Bow

Ellyrian Reavers x7 - 143pts
- Harbinger
- Spear, Bow

[Special]
Dragon Princes of Caledor x9 - 346pts
- Drakemaster
- Warrior Bane
- Musician
- Standard Bearer
- Banner of the World Dragon

[Rare]
Flamespyre Phoenix - 225pts

Total: 997pts

The idea on paper, is the noble rides with the Dragon Princes, essentially punching holes through the enemy lines. The Reavers war machine hunt as well as assist if the Dragon Princes get bogged down in combat. The banner is to make up for not having a caster to assist with dispelling. Then the phoenix is designed to wreck havoc; soften up targets for the Dragon Princes, as well as assist with war machine hunting.

Am I on the right track for a fast and fragile force?

Hello!

Lord - 140pts
- Barded Elven Steed, Dragon Armour, Shield of the Merwyrm, Star Lance

He will not get the parry save because he is mounted. It has been a long running debate but in looking at the rules for parry save, yes technically he has a 4+ parry but then looses it due to being mounted. I don't have the book in front of me so I can't reference it. I would actually recommend switching it out for the 'Other Trickster's Shard.' Yes he won't have protection except that 2+ save, but it will make killing enemy characters way easier with that Star Lance without having to jumble around/remove stuff to improve his save. Also...no shield?

Ellyrian Reavers x7 - 143pts
- Harbinger
- Spear, Bow

Ellyrian Reavers x7 - 143pts
- Harbinger
- Spear, Bow

7 is too many. Harbinger is not as useful as a musician as it helps you rally. However, to adjust without messing up without having to add/take away things you could change it to:

Ellyrian Reavers x5
-Spear, Bow

Ellyrian Reaversx 5
-Spear, Bow

Ellyrian Reavers x5
-Spear, Bow

This will be 285pts instead of the 286 you had up top so you'll make the 25% threshold. I know I said use musicians instead, but again, without having to move around/jumble too much you now have three redirectors, harassers, warmachine killers, flankers, etc. You'll have more of a presence on the board. Also, because they are cheaper than your units of 7, loosing one won't hurt as badly.

Dragon Princes of Caledor x9 - 346pts
- Drakemaster
- Warrior Bane
- Musician
- Standard Bearer
- Banner of the World Dragon

Good except drop the warrior bane. You don't have the use of your lance for a strength 5 hit. Warrior bane goes off of your strength of 3. Also, because you are on horseback, you're goal is to do as much damage as possible to either: a) break the unit or b) make it easier to break in the following turns since you loose your strength. Since your lord has a star lance you'll want to break sooner and warriors bane is for multiple rounds of combat. BotWD is standard and a good fit here.

Flamespyre Phoenix - 225pts
This would be useful for small points to take out smaller units by either flying over or attacking. I would prefer the frost phoenix because of the -1 strength and always strikes last. That thing could hold up anything for a long time which is useful if you want your knights to avoid stuff. But it is also preference. Most would say the frost is better but if this fits you than go for it. Also, remove the points total for that guy. GW would quickly sue dakkadakka for displaying the points cost of it.

So I would have this with the changes:

Noble 142pt
- Barded Elven Steed, Dragon Armour, Shield the other trickster's shard, Star Lance

3x 5 Ellyrian Reavers (bow and spear) for a total of 285pts

Dragon Princes of Caledor x9 341pts
-Drake Master
-Musician
-Standard
-Bearer

Flamespyre Phoenix (can't put the points up but you know)

Total: 993. There are a couple of ways to use up those last bit of points (enchanted shield, luck stone) but it is up to you.
My concern would be with not having much of a magic defense. Yes you have a 2++ but in my opinion the damage is done with augments and hexes.
But, I can appreciate a no magic list and with what you have it could be powerful. Good luck and let us know how you do!

Thanks for the response! The Warrior Bane was just there for point filler for after the charge, the lack of shield was because the Shield of the Myrwyrm was his shield. Didn't realise I couldn't parry while mounted, so I'll keep that in mind in future!

No problem! The biggest thing is testing out your army by playing it "Multiple Times" before making changes. This was more cosmetic stuff for the most part. If you like this, play a handful of games with different armies to see how it is, what works for you, and learn how the army functions well. Then, if you don't like it change it up. The biggest success of tournament goers is not making an army and go but making an army and knowing its nuts and bolts through experience.
