Hey guys, I am starting up Blood Angels with the release of the new codex and was wondering what you thought of this list to take to a local tournament that is coming up in the next 3 months, once I have come up with a list it will be a struggle to get everything painted but we will see.

* Having looked at the recent data-slates to do with BA and requesting if they were allowed, it turned out that they are. Do you think a list like this can work?

1850

LOW - Commander Dante

HQ - Sanguinary Priest w/Jump Pack

Elites - 8x Death Company w/Jump Packs, Power Fist
Elites - 7x Death Company w/Jump Packs, Power Fist

Troops - 5x Scouts
Troops - 5x Scouts

Angels Fury Spearhead Formation

Stormraven w/Multimelta, Assault Cannon
10x Tactical Marines w/Heavy Flamer

Stormraven w/Multimelta, Assault Cannon
10x Tactical Marines w/Heavy Flamer

Stormraven w/Multimelta, Assault Cannon
10x Tactical Marines w/Heavy Flamer

Tactics - Scouts start on the board with everything else in reserve, turn 1 the Stormraven's fly in and shoot stuff. Turn 2 the Stormraven's hover, and the tactical squads disembark having deep struck the 2 death company squads with Dante and Priest attached using the triangulation rule. The Deathcompany and the attached IC then assault a scary target whilst the Tactical Marines and Stormraven's provide covering fire. By turn 3 I should be mopping up the majority of their army. What do you think?

I have stated this alot, but when you take this formation you lack significant AV.

Your list especially will have 3 Max Melta (from Stormravens).

Suggestions:

Dante costs too much for a list that has this formation. I suggest dropping him for some AV. Maybe Tri Melta ASM pod.

Consider dropping the Sanguinary Priest. He adds little to the list.

What about this, I have reworked it slightly to have more punch, I still have 45 points remaining that I dont know what to do with throw a combi melta on the priest and a couple of infernus pistols on the Guard?

HQ - Sanguinary Priest w/Jump Pack

Elites - 5x Assault Terminators w/(Thunder Hammer - Storm Shield)
Elites - 5x Sanguinary Guard w/(2x Swords - 2x Axes - 1x Powerfist)

I like it better, but personally i am not a fan of sanguinary guard because I feel DC do it better.

Sanguinary Guard also struggle against large mobs of units.

Here is what I was considering:

Angels Fury Spearhead Formation

Stormraven w/Multimelta, Lasc Cannon
10x Tactical Marines w/ 2 Melta

Stormraven w/Multimelta, Lasc Cannon
10x Tactical Marines w/ 2 Melta

Stormraven w/Multimelta, Assault Cannon
10x Tactical Marines w/ 2 Plasma

(You are able to add combis to the Sargs, or re-arrange the special weapons. I haven't found the best combination of special weapons yet)

Troops:
5 Tactical Marines /w HF, Drop Pod
5 Tactical Marines /w HF, Drop Pod

(Troop Tax, also I have very good results with these guys in my other lists. They come in and remove a squad.)

Fast Attack:
5 ASM /w 2 Melta, 1 Combi Melta, Drop Pod.

(This allows me to manipulate Drop Pods a bit. I can have this come down T1 and take out a vehicle, or save it for when a vehicle is more exposed.)

Elite:
5 DC, 1 PW, Jet Pacts
5 DC, 1 PW, Jet Pacts

(25 attacks on the charge, and since you will be able to assault right out of reserve you don't need extra bodies to take shots for you. I am debating about bringing these guys up to ~6 with 2 PW)

You still need an HQ. And you are at 1725 points. Enough points for a JP Libby, or JP Priest.

I main issue with this formation is the fact that it costs so much and in competitive play it will cost you about ~1020 points without any upgrades. I can see it very viable if we have like ~300 more points to spend.

@Halfblood I really like your list. I find lists like this provide more gratifying victories.Lots of tactical options and deployment methods. I may have to steal and slightly modify this one.

Don't the tac squads from the formation all need to purchase a locator beacon for +10 pts? Also, your sgts w/beacon need to be on the ground turn 1 for the beacons to be use able by turn 2 AFAIK.

Idea that I had was librarian dread w/pod, 2 scout squads, death company dread w/pod, furioso with frag cannon and pod.

They get beacons free as part of the formation.
They don't need to be on the ground turn 1, check the on going YMDC thread.

I like Archangel with Angels Fury, it means you don't have to spend anything on extra troops.

I'm thinking of trying it with Angel's Wrath. I don't like that you're forced to run your HQ in Terminator armor in Archangel. That said, Archangel does allow you to run VVs in Drop Pods so you can get a T1 assault with them. Hm. I hadn't thought about that - Libby Terminator in a Drop Pod w/ an 8-man VV squad. I'll need to think on that more.

As far as the original list goes, I'm of the frame of mind that you should be running the Storm Ravens with MM/LC - don't worry about door guns. I do think you should consider running Angel's Fury with either Angel's Wrath or Archangels instead of a CAD, too. I think it'll be more points efficient and with the points cost for the Storm Ravens in the first place, you need every point you can get with this list.

Man, I wish there was a real Black Library where I could get a Black Library Card and take out Black Library Books without having to buy them. Of course, late fees would be your soul. But it would be worth it. - InquisitorMack

They can with one of the new formations.

I think that if you're running a CAR with at least 1 elite, there's no reason not to run a Baal Strike Force.

Rule #1 is Look Cool.
Rule #2 is Do Cool S*%* Even If It's Tactically Inadvisable
Winning is something like Rule #17.
