I just played a game with some cool medieval brick walls. But I was disappointed when I saw the rule for walls that you can assault another unit through the wall if your in base contact with the wall. These are thick and tall brick walls we're talking about, there's no way you can assault through them. We just used them as buildings with battlements on top unfortunately. Is there a better way to use walls without having them be buildings?

Most walls either count as impassible terrain or difficult terrain.

When they are difficult, it is assumed that the units have the ability to either cut through the walls (shaped charges, cutting torches), or they are strong enough to just break through them.

For a wall of substantial thickness, talk to your opponent about having them count as impassible terrain like most rocks. Unlike difficult terrain, you can't move or assault through them.

It should be noted, that a Space Marine could probably break through an ancient wall like that with his bare hands.

If they're taller than the models involved, and there are no holes in them for visibility, you're not going to be able to assault through them, as you need LOS to assault.

Welcome to 7e terrain rules. Best option if this is a regular group is to use the scratch built terrain rules and make group datasheets for them.

Yes you can datasheet them impassible, but if you don't want too much impassible terrain on a board

It's my codex and I'll cry If I want to.

Yes, use the rules correctly for them and you wouldn't have a problem.

If the walls are so tall the models can't see over them, they can't assault through them.

Problem solved.

We house ruled walls like this:
Parameter walls:
Parameter walls confer a 4+ cover save to models obscured 25% or more. To climb over a parameter wall, treat it as difficult terrain and subtract an extra 3”. If there is barbed wire on top, in addition, count it as dangerous terrain. In all other respects, count it as a blind ruin wall.

If a model is obscured 25% or more by a broken or blind wall, that model gains a 4+ cover save. Even models that cannot be seen, but are within 2” of and behind a broken wall, can be shot and gain the 4+ cover save. If a model is fully behind a blind wall, that unit is out of line of sight. If even a sliver is behind the broken wall or not behind a wall, it can be shot at.
The same goes for shooting from behind a ruin wall. Models behind a broken wall can shoot, while models behind a blind wall can’t. Moving through a broken wall is considered difficult terrain and impassable for vehicles, and a blind wall is impassable for all.
