Thanks guys, really just a case of sitting on the floor surrounded by bits and throwing enough parts around that it looks ok !

Some minor work done on the pods, mostly chipping and some oils in the interiors, planning to scorch up the outside with the airbrush, but not entirely sure how to go about it, might need to build a mock up eg coke can.

As an aside , if anyone asks you to paint pre built drop pods , poke their eyes out and run away. Seriously these are deceptively a pain it the ass.

Huh, from left field comes two of the best painted drop pods i've seen in a looooong time! :-) you've absolutely nailed the balance of light and dark chipping with the weathering it looks brilliant!

Haha fair one mate, what do you reckon to the pinkish to brown scorching ? I'm not too sure at the minute, maybe a light tint of some dark red or brown to calm it down ?

Yes it is a different approach but I like it it doesn't look out of place or wrong so works, you could always add an overspray of brown to maybe blend it a little more to add that scorched look.

On the whole I like it plus I ain't normally a fan of marine tech so double winner mate

Love the build on the marines.

The pinkish tone seems a bit out of place on the paint. When I see it, I think “heat stressed metal” which is fine on the metallic parts (love it at the top of the pod) but on the tan paint it seems odd.

IMHO, YMMV, Etc.

So jealous. I really need to go back and work on my drop pods. They're "factory new" and it just doesn't look right.

Thanks mate, the reasoning behind the burnt paint on the bottom of the pod is its where I'm assuming heat builds up on it entering whatever planets it drops onto's atmosphere, just like space shuttles etc get all burnt up underneath today. Pink was a colour I e seen a lot when non shiny metal gets hot, see pics below. If it's shiny and clean you get yellows, blues and deep red, if it's rusty or in this case painted it goes pink.
Thanks for the comments mate !

So, whatever colour you like your burnt bits, I'm calling these pods done, really fellas, I got these for a song, the pair for less than a new kit, but pre -badly - assembled pods randomly painted blue and silver are a living nightmare to work on. I'm firmly of the option drop pods can be done at least twice as fast by being painted in sub-assblies and put together when you are happily done without trying to get paint round corners etc !
