A quad legged crisis suit that became a broadside that became a Tachikoma from GITS. The guns still need a few bits added but I haven't found the right pieces for the muzzles yet.

Huzzah! A small package came for me with bits and bases ordered far to long ago. The mail is really slowing down around here lately. Anyway, now I have the bases to wire up the Fat Boy and the Mad Cat suits, as well as the extra ion cannon for the other arm. Preliminary work was done on making powered bases earlier tonight.
I also won a few auctions for some more neat bits, specifically the guns off the Stalker/Hunter SM tank and some Deathwing terminator torsos so I can do that part of my tutorial series. I'm gonna see about getting a bunch of projects to a good stopping point before I leave for Japan. Hopefully lots of updates this week!

Okay, just spent a few minutes looking through your thread and this entire thing is delightfully bonkers I'm not sure I'm going to be able to get rid of the mental image of The Doctor in a Hammerhead with naked Tau out of my head any time soon, try as I might.

I would have said that's a good thing lol these are really amazingly done models. I must try putting LEDs in my battlesuits, thnaks for the inspiration and the tutorial. Loving this blog keep up the fabulous work.

Good to see a couple new faces poking in and leaving comments. Always does a bit to convince me that people actually read my ramblings, or at least stop to look at the pictures.
Speaking of pictures, I did some things. Things got done. One of these things that happened was a leg. Specifically the leg of a Dreadknight, which has been chopped and reworked six ways from Sunday to build a reverse jointed setup. Here it is before I do any real finishing work to it to hide all those messy bits:
Kinda neat, right? That's going to be a part of a Riptide/Dreadknight/Whatever build I'm doing. It's been shaping up since forever, and coming together in short little bursts before being put back on the back burner. Here's a *VERY* early mock up of the general shape of the thing using lots of tack:
Right now it's very much an unrealised concept and I'm just sticking bits here and there to see how they fit with one another. I actually wound up with some pretty good results and I'm much further along than I was yesterday.
The powered bases for the two other WIP suits are still curing, taking much longer than expected for a giant wad of glue to dry (gel superglue makes inexpensive gap filler). I'm still a bit stumped on the Tachikoma's weapons and what to mount on the ends. I'll need to look through everything and come up with a fun idea or three.
Three and a half days to go til I leave for Japan. I'm going a little bit crazy with multiple kinds of inspiration right before leaving, go figure. Nothing like a deadline to light a fire under your ass.

Been fiddling and diddling on this riptide build, and I've come to a range of head options that I want some opinions on.
1.
2.
Or 3.
On a related note, sticky tack is the best friend of anyone trying to build something really over the top.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Leaning towards #2, myself. I like the cowled look. Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh, and this is also a thing that happened.
The lower portion of its legs will get some up-armor to adjust the proportions a bit. Aside from that this is very nearly done. Just have to solder it onto the base once I get the wire affixed properly to the leg, which in itself is a multi-part job that takes a while to cure at each step.

I think no1 head is the best option, if you could get one of those Targetter thingies from the SkyRay turret kit and put that in as 'eyes' (an LED would also work)

A suit like this shouldn't even HAVE a head except to play to the cephalo-centric vanity of the designers. A central instrument cluster is exactly the type of one-shot kill that any sniper would be looking for, like the helmetless dreadknight pilot. Of course, I already have the exposed pilot thing going on Snowflake's suit, so this shouldn't be a problem. Headshots for everyone! Automatically Appended Next Post: So, Nooblet, I see your signature and can't help wondering if you've got a Tau log of your own going somewhere?

No, unfortunately. However I do plan to begin one, except I'm only 15 so my income is fairly limited. I'm still working on getting battlesuits, I only have a bunch of Fire Warriors and Kroot so far, but hopefully in future I can start one. But yeah, for now I do not have a blog, sorry about the misleading sig. Oops!
EDIT: Also, contrary to my user status, I am most certainly not a disbeliever of the greater good

No worries. Though at 15 I think I ought to give you a stern talking-to about browsing a thread loaded with space boobs If you're just starting out, I will give you what I think is the most important piece of advice when trying to do a cool project: Balls. Big brass balls and the ability to accept that failure is a likely outcome and, should said failure occur, the even bigger brass balls that it takes to break a project apart and start from scratch. Or just put a link to this thread in it (shameless self-promotion). Speaking of balls and failure, there was a lot of that over the course of developing these two suits. Here's the Fat Boy and the Mad Cat with a side by side comparison to the original Gunslinger broadside for scale. These things are BIG!
I'll get detail shots of both of them up later. I need to finish some work on the bases before they go on the painting shelf.

Oh! Those are actually Tael pattern jetpacks, which are made from the existing Crisis jetpack. You basically chop along a few predetermined lines and then stick the two single packs together to make a double. Hold on a sec and I'll dredge up the quick and easy "Tael Suit" tutorial on ATT. Okay, my search fu is so freaking weak right now. I wish that forums had search functions that actually returned usable results.
Okay, I would spend more time to dig it up for you but what you're looking for is called the "Tael" pattern battlesuit, and there should be one or two conversion guides out there somewhere. I may even have one saved on my laptop somewhere. I do, however, have to spend time tidying things up before my japan trip so I can't actually spend too much time on a new project tonight. If I do come across it I'll post it for you, otherwise try looking on Advanced Tau Tactica (be careful when joining, their mods can be jerks). Automatically Appended Next Post: I did not find the picture I used as a guide, but I did find some photos of my old space marine tanks with freehand artwork.
NSFW Warning.

I need to search around for images of Golem, Chimera and Renovatio. These sorts of things are why I got banned from Warseer and my threads kept getting deleted, and why I dislike forum mods who can't see past a pair of boobs and use their brains for a minute. There are layers of symbolism at work here, at least on the two blue ones. The green one was a commission and it's just a pinup. And there's tentacle porn on the bottom of the tank for when it gets blown up. But the other two, and the others in that series? Art, dammit. On those, the girl can't *not* be naked to retain the image's meaning. There are reasons for everything and a lot of thought was put into the work. The girls in the Dubstep Cadre are just silliness, but this had a purpose and it was stricken from the record as immature garbage.

Oh, man. Everything is pretty great in this thread. I've got a moderate sized Tau army myself (also since 3rd ed, with XV15s to prove it). I cannot imagine any of this stuff on ATT. That place is pretty useful for tactics, but it's way to stiff for pimpin'.

I know, right? I had to apply black MS Paint squiggles to pics with boobs, and the girls were left off the Pimp suit's base altogether when I took those pictures. It's lame to have to self censor like that, but that site is kind of one-stop shopping for a lot of new tau players and so I feel I really should post there to expose a lot of people to my goodies. Automatically Appended Next Post: Detail shots of Fat Boy and Mad Cat now that their bases are finished. Sorry about the bad lighting, had to use the camera flash since the house lights were being a pain today. Hooray for saudi engineering!
The Fat Boy has a feather, marking its pilot as a member of the Order of the Plume. Haven't come up with the pilot's background yet but as the reincarnation of my old XV88 team, they deserve it.
When I can get better lighting, I'll take pics with the LEDs lit. Automatically Appended Next Post: You can see in a few places that there's some finishing work still to do, but I'm happy with where these are at for now.
