Miercy day!

Cocwocor!
It's Mierceday - but it's also the holiday season, so there's not a great deal to show. Still, what there is, is great! We also have a sneak peek into our next project...

Let us begin!

We've a big beastie for the Brythoniaid to show this week, from Bob Płociennik!

The awesome Bronn ap Banbronn is now done and parted up, thanks to Bob Płociennik's ministrations! We love this guy!

Bronn will be a Wave 14 shipment, as we have to get him printed yet and it's taking a while longer than expected to get stuff printed unfortunately.

Ooooo, a mounted Reiver warrior for the Fomoraic...

Byzantii Legionarius

There's no new miniatures to show this week, but we do have the first sightings of the metal Legionarii for the Byzantii!

Let's go!

We received the first samples of the Byzantii Legionarius Starter Host this week, and they're looking great!

The metal Legionarius Infantry Starter Host has told us what we knew already - sometimes miniatures look far better in bare metal than bare resin! The Legionarii look utterly superb in metal and the characters look great too. You'll all love these guys!

Legionarius Contubernium, Equitus Durio, Velchior and Agathae (Tycho is being produced in resin of course)

The Legionarius Host will be a Wave 13 shipment, all being well, although it'll take a month or so to get the first production casts. So you're looking at September shipments, we think.

Before we go, here's something to whet your appetites, because this is happening later on this month...

Lizzies!

Gukkok's Blades

It's Mierceday - but it's also the holiday season, so there's not a great deal to show. Still, what there is, is great! We also have a sneak peek into our next project...

Here we go...

This week - gulp! - we've the first shots of something for the Khthones from the mighty hands of Benoît Cosse...

Benoît Cosse has begun work on the Gukkok's Blades, Sávrar Unit, and whilst there's a few issues - notably the necks being too long - they're getting there. Apologies for Benoît's photographs again, as usual... although these are pretty good by his standards!

The champion of the unit is of course Gukkok, and he's looking good so far.

We'll fix that long neck, don't worry! And whilst that shield is lovely, it's not the right one... but don't worry, we'll fix that too.

The banner bearer of the unit is Kliss, a cracking miniature so far...

The neck isn't too bad on this guy but we'll make sure it's all coherent with the rest of the unit...

A warrior of the unit is Ikki, and again there's a neck issue; we'll sort it!

These guys will hopefully make it into Wave 14 - at least, the resin versions will...

Before we go, here's something to whet your appetites, because this is happening later on this month...

Thick and fast today

Aidan and Fuggug

It's another update for Darklands: Savage Hordes II, hooray!

Here we go...

We've got something for the Érainn this week thanks to Valentin Zak, and something for the Ysians thanks to Jason Hendricks!

Valentin Zak has staggered us all with his work of late, but we think Aidan is perhaps his best work yet. He just looks awesome!

He will be a Wave 14 shipment, as of course he's not really part of Savage Hordes II.

Jason Hendricks may be a new sculptor to Mierce, but we already love his work and can't wait for the rest of the Corruptors!

The big fat fella known as Fuggug looks utterly brilliant, especially as he's complete!

These guys should be a Wave 15 shipment, as long as Jason gets cracking on the next two...

Before we go, here's something to whet your appetites, because this is happening later on this month...

I'm not totally sold on the Savrar - I love other work by Cosse but I think these might have belonged with Chaudon, who did the character versions I believe.

Aidan is quite simply incredible, though!!

...Oh. I might actually have to start begging to have all those savrar in my order queue switched out for something else.
They're not even bad models - not at all! Just really, really not what I was expecting given both the concept art and, indeed, the initial three characters (which are absolutely amazing).

OTOH I'm guessing the Fomoraic Cavalry will be a unit of avian porcines - they've just shown an Ysian model I actually like (a Kindred I've absolutely never 'gotten' at all, until now)

Unless Rob takes a severe beating with the silly stick I'm reasonably sure porcine avian (flying pig) cavalry is not on the cards, so yeah. That one might have fallen a bit flat

You never know though, as bigs/boars do figure prominently with Mierce.

Just not of the flying variety.

Yet.

We'll really know we're in trouble once the spider cavalry show up though!

That Brute Corruptor is looking good as well. Nice to see those getting done.

Glad to see that the Oghureach could make an appearance in the next KS. Really want to get those guys in the cue.

Also, is this not the 'least' Ysian looking horse you've ever seen?

"Sure we'll make 16 breasted, crap spraying monsters, but we just like regular horsies." - No Ysian EVER

The fomoraic at least accessorized their horse, though this reiver looks like 'Ice Warrior Barbie' the way she's sitting on it.

Who am I kidding, I can't ride a horse, and I'll probably buy all of these.

I had something ship without a shipment wave earlier this week as well. Check if they took out that shipment wave from your processing orders list; if not, be grateful for the early toys

Yeah, far too many equestrian types for my particularly reptilian tastes!

Keeping an eye on things, and worst case scenario, the funds end up getting stuff from another campaign as my fickle interests change once more...

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

Hopefully there's the usual smaller stretch goals, the first one is unfortunately the "old" kindred I have least investment in, though I guess if I add them to the models from a previous "all the units" pledge it would give me a small force.......

Yeah, they put the jutes out there. We'll get there, we just gotta eat our Angelcynn veggies before the Jute dessert (I kid, I have like almost every Angelcynn unit lol)

The use of stirrups is interesting, particularly in the jutes. They were only recently introduced to Eastern Europe around that time, and my understanding of the wihts is that they are the ancient dead, so it's not like they had them when they died. Nice to see the undead be early adopters!

Yeah, that's something I have had to wrestle with; you'll note that some horsemen have stirrups, some don't, but as the Jutes were at the gateway to a lot of Europe - Kent and the southern coast - and the fact that the Frisians were mixed with them and traded with them a lot, they have stirrups. As for the undead having them, it doesn't take long for a corpse to lose its skin, about 15 years IIRC; especially as they're active (i.e., not in coffins - the freshly dead fight). Thus, it's no stretch (for me anyway) for the undead guys to have stirrups.

The Ysians have stirrups simply because they are part of Europe (Brittany) and their main enemies are the Byzantii, who had them around 600 AD; the Fomoraic have them because those guys are turned Germanics (note their names) and so would have seen/used Byzantii or other stirrups. The Anglecynn don't have them, and neither will the Albainn, Brythoniaid, Érainn or Norse (excepting a few characters here and there).

Bear in mind too that archaelogical evidence may be scant, but leather does degrade and stirrups may not be grave goods. But I've tried to nod towards the current historical thought...

Cheers
Rob

Oh! For some reason I thought the wihts had been dead like hundreds of years, forgotten until the Jutes arrived. My painting scheme will need a revision in that case!

Well, that supposes they get made without the backing, and that the discount on metals is the same as the discount on resin. No insult intended to Mierce, but they are a small company and do need the support of backers to fund development (at least at this pace, which has been astounding). And the discounts on metals might not be the same as resin has been in the past, as those arent cast in-house.When you're making the product yourself, you can sometimes wriggle on the margins. I dont have a lot of free cash now, but did pledge for a unit.
