It's now a two list format with the option of building your two lists from a pool of 'casters that will change every six months.

If you restrict yourself in such a way (BOTH your lists use a restricted caster) your army lists become flexible and you're allowed 20 points of sideboard models.

I don't play Masters but it sounds pretty cool as a way to shake up taking the power casters. I honestly don't get why the default uses Sideboard/reserves, as that seems like it'd go a long way towards balancing out bad matchups.

I am quite impressed with this change. Thus could go places.

Definetely like the changes. Much needed to seperate it a bit from Iron Guantlet. and a 20 point sideboard per list is pretty big - that is more than a third of your list you can change out.

I'm not prejudiced, I hate everyone equally

Wrong thread! Never mind.

EDIT: can anybody tell me if you can swap between playing a theme list or not when you have specialists? If you can I could see tier/non tier Axis being very fun. Adding reflex servitors and the battle engine (which is finally coming out!) would be nice in some matchups.

Its an interesting format, but I can't help but feel that Steamroller will continue to be the most popular format due to how straightforward it is.

dementedwombat - no, you can't use specialists to swap out theme lists. If you take a theme list, it must remain as that theme. If it starts as a non-theme list, you cannot make it into a theme list.

Got it. Ah well. It was an interesting idea I guess.

At first I disliked this change, but after thinking about it for a bit I'm liking it more and more, of course that the fact that Kraye is one of my favourite casters in Cygnar and that the Legion list has both pLylyth and pThagrosh (really?) in it has absolutely nothing to do with it!

Any reason you didn't list the Ret casters?

So how does the sideboard work? Do you get to make changes after seeing your opponent and scenario?

Rules are in the packets under Specialists:

You review lists, reveal casters, then you can make changes.

Theme forces are locked at the tier in which the base list is set at.

Thanks

Anyone know if Adepticon will be using the new SR format this year?

They do use the new SR format every year, and since the
tournaments are being run by PP staffers and volunteers,
they'll be using the ADR rules in Masters.

Well, Ret is going to dominate. I can't do anything against them with the provided POM casters except for eReznik, and only because he can avoid MHSF and Mittens.

Use different casters then?

Nah, I'm cool with Reznik 2 and Sevy 2, or maybe Testament. I actually have a bit of experience with eSevy and Testament too. Just a little peaved that Ret gets several top tier casters.

I just wish that for each minions sub-faction, and possibly mercs don't know too much about them, they gave another caster or two to be in the rotation so that way if one wanted to further restrict themselves they'd at least have 3 caster options as opposed to the two given. Currently one list HAS to be Arkadius for pigs (not bad considering new tier list) and HAS to be Midas. I'll be real in saying that almost all my pig lists are the same and it's really hard to do different things at the moment, but even more options would be much appreciated. Most minion players tend to be either pigs or gators and rarely a combination of the two. With that in mind, each other faction gets 4 casters in rotation to our 2 per sub-faction.

You don't HAVE to use the ADR (Active Duty Roster) for Masters. if BOTH of your 'Casters come from the ADR, you get the Vanguard benefit that allows you to add 20 points of Specialists to your list. During the List Selection process of a game, you can make the substitutions into your army and then reveal them to your opponent.

There are many, many restrictions to the Specialists. The Specialists you take have to have a separate reference card, and you can't use them to "fill out" a unit you're already taken. If you take a minimum unit in your list, you can't use the Specialists to fill out that unit to max size, BUT you could add a Unit Attachment or Weapon Attachment to that unit.

If you take a Theme Force, you can't adjust the theme force level by the use of the Specialists. The Specialists have to be able to be used in your Theme Force. The Specialists do not benefit from any point cost or FA adjustments until you add them to your active list.

It's going to be a nightmare for a Tournament Organizer/Judge to decipher some lists, as there will inevitably be someone that tries to push the envelope.

My prediction- there will be a couple 'Caster Combo's that use the Vanguard, but the majority of players will NOT use them.
