Subject: Tale of four gamers Bristol Fashion: "The Conformance of Scrotox XIII" .. Phase 1 battles in prgrs.
Hi guys, so I've gone and written this up a bit as a starting point so that we can all add a bit of input.
Currently I've just lifted the 'Tale of 4 Gamers' format from an old WD it seems like a good place to start from so throw your ideas down and we can tweak anything.
Be brutal as I've not put any real effort into this and it's by no means my baby.
It's a basic escalation campaign with a game against each other player per month and a 2 vs 2 Apocalypse game to finish off.
Scoring for this is really simple and we should be able to manage a 3 games a month, maybe? Bare in mind that the games in first few months will be pretty quick due to game size.
Painting is in 500 pt blocks over 4 months up to 2000 pt armies. If you can't get the quota done you effectively have another month to catch up before you score 0 points.
Let me know how any of this sounds or if the schedule is too much to handle?
Scoring
Painting:
Models painted on time 5
Models painted late 3
Models not painted 0
Games Played:
Win 3
Lose 0
Draw 1
Apocalypse game 5pts for each player on the winning side
Hope that makes sense? 14 points available per month if you win all of your games and if you get your stuff painted.
So looks like we have (in no particular order....
Mid-Life Crisis Suit -Tau Farsight enclave
RandyMcStab -Ultramar's finest PDF Guardsmen
Mephistoned Jon -Bloody Rain of Angels
Alex Kolodotschko - Kabal of the Something Spooky Sounding
Let me know what you think guys and we can thrash this out, add any ideas you fancy and feel free to fill this space with fluff, pics, links to battreps, blogs and nonsense.
Also for anyone who isn't playing who happens to be reading in, it'd be great to get some input, encouragement or praise so feel free to chime in.

Just took me three reads to see what was wrong with it.
In the grim darkness of the 41st millennium there are only 2 types of people, winners and losers.
No one will ever make their mark on history with a hard fought draw.
Good spot, fixed.
Good to see you here, you may finally get to see my Dark Eldar in action. I started this PM thread for them on the 13/06/2013, not touched them since prepare for some epic threadromancy!

Not sure yet, here's my take on things......
I ain't scared of Riptides, I think?
Just finished reading Andy Chambers', "Path of the Renegade", I'm kinda stoked to do some work on them at the moment.
A few thoughts.
It'd be nice to do a few bonus points per month, stuff like themed objective markers, an A4 page of fluff, best fancy dress or any other ideas?
Starting date?
Do we need to submit a full list now, should it be split into 4 separate pledges or what?
I suggest we stick to a single toac list for the whole of the month. I would prefer to make it up as I go along ie whatever 500pts we fancy each month.
Do we have to truly 'escalate'?
Example:
Month 1 I want a Succubus for HQ,
Month 2 I want an Archon but no Succubus,
Month 3 I want Succubus
Month 4 I want both Succubus and Archon
Can we change wargear on or add to characters?
Planet/Conflict name/fluff? Why are we all here? Is it fate, chance, luck, an important artifact, a badly organised book-club?
Rules? I'm waaay out of my depth here but are we doing allies, lords of war, dataslates, formations or whatever nonsense is going on? I'm happy with vanilla codex std foc.

Yah def basic FOC stuff but we all do that anyway, mostly. As to setting I will have a think. As to painting new stuff I'm doing SM at the mo and have a sizable (soon to be 5.3k) IG army to pick from so I don't know how that will apply to me.
Set lists are a talking point too. I'd like to know what people think.
My combined Macragge PDF Imperial Guard and Ultramarine 3rd Co. Blog Clicky
Yeah, the painting thing is really to get the other guys up to speed and give me a reason to get these Eldars done.
You could play with your marines and add a new unit each month, or play with Guard and we'll give you the points for painting your marines, or you could paint some of my guard for me ?
I know you're not exactly time rich at the moment so exceptions could be made.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, I just found this in a PM from Mid-life Crisis Suit:
He suggested: 750, 1000, 1250 & 1500 is that any better for people?
Starting now with 1st games on the 1st of March would give plenty of time to get 750 pts painted?

I would up the bar on the pts to 750, 1250, 1500 and 2k. I think the 250s are too small an incremental.

Games sizes: I'm happy to do 500 up or 750 up. The current models in my mind palace add up to 750, but I suppose I could just remove 3 or 4 Riptides.
Fixed lists: Generally fixed lists I think introduces an additional tactical/planning element to the whole endeavour. For example do I have a Riptide for my worlord in round 1, and then use the same model in elites for round 2, or would I need to add an entire Firebase Support Cadre just to fit in that all important 4th or 5th Riptide? Seriously though perhaps there could be some restrictions on what changes can be made e.g. upgrades, weapon options and additional troopers fine, but complete removal of already committed units not fine. Barring Riptides of course.
Combat Patrol restrictions: I honestly think that these kinds of restrictions benefit certain codices more than others, particularly if people insist on using stubbornly themed lists. Also, don't Riptides has 2+ saves??
Painting: Alex originally suggested escalation as an incentive for Jon and I to get painting and its certainly working for me. I don't intend to put anything on the table that isn't at least based and base coated. Perhaps bonus points if your stuff IS painted in time for the actual game in which it's used?
Riptides: I only have one of these and I was planning on waiting until our final game to add him into the force.
I'll happily invent some cheesy back story for the Farsight Enclaves.
Can we get some ideas for a flashpoint?
How about a 'recently' warp-isolated imperial human world that's being 'liberated' by the Tau and preyed upon by the Dark Eldar. Tau and Dark Eldar clash as a result, allowing a loyalist human element to contact the wider Imperium, who dispatch a conveniently close Ultramar PDF regiment to quell the rebellion/Tau presence, only to find that the Emperor's finest are already in orbit and understandably rather miffed about all this messing about with factions and are attempting to install their own power-armoured leadership, regardless of Marneus' plans
The planet is known only for its large, chicken-like life forms, the skins of which are used to make and export handbags across the galaxy.
Its Imperial designation is Scrotox XIII and the Tau know it as B'aulbag.
Oh, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY RANDY!!! XXX

Yo to you all. I have finally set up my dakka account. It took me all this time to think of an appropriate name but then i decided to ignore that and go with this instead
As to game size, I would personally prefer to start at 750 over 500 even though i have the most amount of assembling/painting work ahead of me.
What is everyone's thoughts on how upgrades to units will work.
For example if i had a captain with a power sword in the first game, would he have to have a power sword for the whole campaign or would he be able to change it to a powerfist for the 3rd.
I can understand not being able to de-equip him but can things be added to is my question.
Another example would be if i had a 6 man ass squad. (i do love my ass squads) Would they have to be 6 man for the whole campaign or could i put more asses in there as the campaign goes on.
Personally i feel that if points are allocated to something then they can't be taken off but they could always be added to. what do you guys think.

I agree that once a unit has been 'purchased' then it must stay in the escalating list however this should be the only restriction; meaning that units can be customised between each escalation level to their fullest extent eg extra bodies, wargear and dedi transports.
Do we all agree that lists cannot be changed at all within escalation points level so that, for example, I cannot swap out the plasma rifle that was in my crisis team versus Randy at 750 for a missile pod versus Mephistoned at 750 points?
I think that is for the best.
I would like to do 750 escalating up to 1000, 1500 and finally 2000 so it is easier to kick off.
What say ye?

Okay guys, so it seems like we’re all on similar pages here, not much point in making things any harder for ourselves otherwise this will never even start. I’m not too fussed about the rules in all honesty as long as we get some games played and some armies painted.
I’ll add to the 1st post to make this easier to find if we agree on everything:
Here’s a few points of note:
Background:
The recently warp-isolated imperial human world of Scrotox XIII is currently being 'liberated' by the Tau and preyed upon by the Dark Eldar slavers simultaneously at the same time. Tau and Dark Eldar clash as a result, allowing a loyalist human element to contact the wider Imperium, who dispatch a conveniently close Ultramar PDF regiment to quell the rebellion/Tau presence, only to find that the Emperor's finest are already in orbit and understandably rather miffed about all this messing about with factions and are attempting to install their own power-armoured leadership.
The planet is known only for its large, chicken-like life forms, the skins of which are used to make and export handbags across the galaxy. A vital source of fashion without which Mankind may well be destined for darkness.
Its Imperial designation is Scrotox XIII or B'aulbag if you speak fish.
List writing:
Each player will submit a list to his opponent at the start of his first game each round it may not be changed for the rest of the round.
Lists are 750, 1000, 1500 and 2000
Lists will be taken from a single Codex book using standard FOC.
Units 'purchased' must stay in the escalating list but can be customised between each escalation level to their fullest extent.
Lists cannot be changed at all within each round/escalation points level.
Painting:
Toys are to be painted for your first game of each round, scoring a full 5pts, backlog must be painted before first game of next round to score 3pts otherwise a 0pt score is incurred.
I know this may sound heavily weighted towards painting but I think it should help motivate.
Randy will do some painting to earn his painting score and the rest of us will use this as a kick up the arse to get our stuff done.
Are we nearly there? 1st games on the 1st March?

Hopefully going to get a chunk done this weekend. Managed with jays help earlier in the week to build a smal squad. Currently in 2015 already equalling the amount of building for all of 2014 so things are looking good.

Good work guys, my stuff is mainly assembled, then I've just got to settle on a list and get used to the new codex?
The scheme is sorted (except for the colour of the bases)
It's been ages since I did anything with the army, really what I have to do is sort all of the paints and first few squads into a project box so everything is to hand when the urge takes me.

Simply awesome, maybe the planet number could be 3.
Scrotox Prime
Scrotox Secundus
Scrotox Tertius??
Extra nipples, sure, but 3 scrotums? I have trouble keeping track of my second one as it is.
What do you reckon to this guys?
Could we get someone (MGS cough cough?) to write a secret objective(s) for each player each round.
That person (MGS cough cough) would probably enjoy some involvement and could probably ask for decent/balanced/fun ideas secretly in the DCM forum and it might bring a little more traffic to the campaign thread as an added bonus? (Pretty please MGS cough cough cough)
Simple small things like....
Mephistoned: Push forward: Get 3 line breakers (one per game) or Line break with 3 units in a single game.
Randy: Top secret info: HQ must survive at least X games.
Alex: Bloodlust: '1st blood' 3 units before your opponent in a single game.
MLCS: Reconsolidate: All troops choices must survive at least one game this round.
Objectives are sent by PM on the 1st of each month secretly and only announced when they are completed by the player.
Additional 1 or 2 campaign points for achieving.

So, will each player be having 3 games per tier against all other players? Do you need to select opponents like FIFA pulling balls out of a tumbler?
Also I will need to see the lists I guess, before the games kick off, or I'll be assigning tasks like 'kill a FA choice in 2 out of your 3 games' when there are no FA units...
