Hey guys. Quick question. As you can see, my list is quite shooty, and when it comes down to CC i have my BG and Exe's to smash or mop up. My SS will be bunkered in the darlshards with the banner. Was wondering with this list, my combat blocks will more or less be focused. What lore would be best to run? Life? Beasts?

Death.

A level 4 death is the best bet for Dark Elves.

Or Morathi. With 3 on death, one on dark(swapped for Doombolt).

You have 4 bolt throwers, 2 units of warlocks, black guard, and executioners. Morathi is a godsend for that. If any experienced elf players say otherwise, they're just wrong.

Metal works surprisingly well with Executioners. Going from 5+ to 3+ saves, +1 to hit and wound, flaming attacks, -1 to hit on the opposition all work well for them.

BG would benefit from having their opponents' saves reduced as well.

And of course, being able to crush 1+ saves with ease (always a weakness with DE) is always nice...

I'm with vulcan on this one. A bunkered metal ss will do great in this list.

That being said, if you wanna keep it as a bunker, I'd maybe suggest switching your shards from 2 14s to an 18 and a 10. More bodies in the bunker

Metal does sound very interesting. If my SS was on a peg then i would go death for sure.

As for my bunker, bulking it up to 18 for misscast reasons? Was wanting a lot of firepower on either flank.

The list in general, what do you all think? My tactic is to just cover flanks with shooting and fast cav, WM hunt with fast cav. take down big things with bolties, and smash combat with my blocks.

With this build, what issues may i expect to encounter? I'm hoping to tourney play this list.

Metal needs a peg more than death. And really requires a specific core+hero setup to max the effectiveness.

Ah ok. Would would you recommend then? Dont really want my SS on a peg, i want her near the combat blocks in support.

Shadow does work for what you have, but death is the best lore for the army.

Whilst a mobile elf death mage is one of the most useful mages in warhammer, a static death mage is good as well.

As for the peg, you use the peg to support the blocks. She deploys behind the army.

Oh i see! Well, no need to spend the points on CoT and Peg as my mage is gonna be pretty much next and to the rear of my blocks with the DS bunker. Even to find the points if i wanted her on a peg i would have to drop a bolt thrower and some BG, i dont want that to happen. I Need MAX firepower to suppress the enemy from afar before i reach CC

In terms of Death, what will it be offering to my army. I'm aware of what it does, but how best utilised is what i mean.

thanks

With Morathi, on a seven dice phase, you can cast a purple sun, soulblight, caress and spirit leech.

Death provides you one of the best spells in warhammer(Soulblight). It provides you an easy way to gain superiority in a matchup(Character sniping). And if you need a gamechanger, it has purple sun.

In an uncomped setting, you can run 2 magic phases off the back of a level 4 death.

Both my Doomfire units have soulblight also. Would there be any need to take it on my mage? Purple sun is devastating, i've wrapped dwarven gun lines up with it before, it is truly immense!

What would be the 4 main spells to take with my Lvl 4?

And with this list would it be better to have Morathi?

The Lair of Vengeance....Poole.

The 4 main death spells are soulblight, spirit leech, caress, and purple sun.

The third soulblight will effectively guarantee one successful casting.

And Morathi is the best Mage available to dark elves. She's always the best choice. She can actually charge stuff too.

My standard lord choices are Morathi, and a 1+ rerollable peg lord with the ogre blade. These guys couple with a 1+ cloak of twilight Peg BSB with a lance.

Thats amazing! How often do you send her out from behind your lines? Or is that too dangerous?

It's entirely situational. I recently committed her to a combat against 30 saurus, gor rok, and a cowboy alongside the other two characters. I knew I could position her so that only the cowboy and a Saurus would be in contact due to angles. I knew she'd beat the scar vet, and provide sulephet's attacks and stomp to the combat whilst being safe.

Sounds amazing. I have another question, if i didnt have the bolt throwers in, and had 280 points to spend, what would best substitue the bolt throwers?

More Bolt Throwers. Bolt Throwers are amazing.

Ideally, you'd find the 280 points elswhere. Most likely by dropping black guard or executioners.

What i men is, if i didnt want the bolt throwers in at all, what else, using the 280 points, would be best spent in support of ym 2 combat blocks?

I AM keeping my bolt throwers, just wondering incase i want a 'quick' swapout for more combat based list.

If you're going to take out the Reapers, I'd replace it with more chaff. You're running a little chaff-light as it is - yes, four units of fast cav are nice, but you'll find you're running low on chaff by turn two a lot of the time.

Shades, Harpies, and even tirestrip units of witches (they'll shred anything that runs over them) can help. And don't forget using those darkshards to sweep enemy chaff out of your way.

The Bolt throwers are far more important than combat units and chaff. If he's in a situation where he's looking to drop them, then he's in a situation where he needs to look elsewhere to drop points, regardless of whether it's hypothetical or not.
