Hello Dakkaites! This is my painting and building blog. I am a slow painter and don't like to post too many WIPs of the same model, so it won't be updated very frequently, but I try to get a couple of posts in every month. I love hearing your thoughts and criticism, so feel free to post anything that pops into your mind.

Some examples of my work so far:

Today's wip. Base coat and wash done. Do you also find that models look like gak at this stage?

More work on shotgun girl. Gun, pants and gloves to go. I think the skin came out better than on the last girl. Funnily enough I find the hair super hard. It doesn't seem to take well to drybrushing. Any tips?

The models you have finished so far are very impressive, it looks like you pick up new techniques very quickly.

For hair rather than use a dry brush I use an old standard gw brush and find that works better as its softer.

Looking forwards to more Escher.

Thanks, it means a lot to get some positive feedback! Thanks for the hair tip as well, are you saying to simply highlight with the side of the brush or are you still drybrushing?

More Escher are certainly in the pipeline, I think I have a total of 28 of them O_o I just need to keep my hands off other... Oooh, shiny, new *walks away starry-eyed*

Your terrain is rather good! Great use of bits and pieces! Love the Wraithguards as well.

Thanks a lot Robert! Making terrain is way more satisfying to me than painting minis, but it tends to take a long time before I'm happy with all the details.

Lots of progress! Cut an MDF base, demolished the highway itself, covered it in filler and sanded it. Flocked the base after this photo and will be resuming work tomorrow. I'll be magnetizing the supports for maximum portability.

There's a new member in our club, and he has some absolutely beautiful Necromunda terrain. It's based on brown soil, so I immediately got the idea to use the same base color on my terrain so we can mix and match. Plus it looks way better than my current black/grey.

I started with repainting the base of a previous piece of mine:

And then started to repaint my gaming table in the same colors:

Finished painting the table! It's one pass of Raw Sienna, then two drybrush passes of the same color with more white added each time. I like the look, especially compared to the previous black.

Also continued work on the ruined highway. Those two white blocks are glued to the board and will have magnets embedded in them, same with the supports and the underside of the bridge.

Spent half an hour putting a safety fence on the highway. I really think it completes the look. It's just plasticard bent with some pliers, the posts are plasticard girders I think. Some rubble on the road and I think we're on to painting! Haven't done the magnets yet but that should be quick.

And now everything has been slathered in pva/water mix to keep the sand in place and also to make the plaster a bit more sturdy. Then it's on to painting! I think I'll do the magnets after that actually,

So today was pretty exciting, as I was browsing the local hobby shop and found some color pigments. After some quick research I realized they were basically the same thing that, in our circles, is sold as "weathering pigments"! Ive always wanted some but never got around to ordering them. So I bought them and immediately went home to try them on my old trusty cistern terrain piece. Excited as I was, I went waaaay overboard and made it look like it had been covered in red dust :(

I was pretty dismayed and thought I had ruined it. I had to stipple back a lot of metal simply to make it look less red. at that point it looked ok, but not really goo. So I made a wash from troll slayer orange and dotted that around here and there, which made it look heaps better! I'm still not sure it looks better than before, but at least I've tried it once and will most likely do a better job next time. Pigment wash + orange wash seems like it will work fine if I can restrain myself and remember that less is more. What do you guys think, was it better before? Here it is in its overdone, rusted glory (the old look is a few posts above):

Haha thank you sir, I'm glad you like my stuff! And once a long time ago when I was a mere child. The gods graced us with a great line of building toys known as Imaginex. Me and my brother had tons, from fantasy stuff like castles, to pirate ships, to modern police stations... and coast guard sets... You my friend have what my sister gave me on my birthday once..... this...

Unfortinatly the line changed from great building toys to silly kids simple stuff and lost all the fun. I still have a tub full of em and have been stuck thinking of whether to use it for terrain ( which im guilty to have already ) or to save it for the eventual little me's that need to be brain washed into liking the stuff I do

^ infact if I recall correctly I think that was part of the coast guard like set, some it had boats, lighthouses, little sea animals, ect ect

This is part of the many things imaginex has made!

That is awesome Thanks for the story, it's fun to know where these little bits and bobs come from. That tower is from a flea market grab bag of random old toys. Oh and I definitely think you should make terrain out of some of your stuff. After all, your future kids might enjoy your wargaming terrain as much as they would your old toys, at least when they're a bit older

Painting has started on the highway! The grund isn't done, but the concrete is, and I'm really happy with the effect! These are the steps:

- prime black
- stipple/drybrush in order: zandri dust, ushbati bone, dawnstone, ulthuan grey.

The two first colors are brown/tan, because concrete is quite tan. The last two are grey, and it looks really bad until the Ulthuan Grey comes in and really ties it together! I'll be painting the rest of the bridge tomorrow I reckon.

I think the rust looks great. Perhaps the railing nearest the camera could do with the largest portion of rust being broken up a bit, perhaps another tone in there. It still looks good either way.

Thanks! Yeah, ill probably put some graffiti and/or propaganda posters on the railing/supports to break it up a bit as well as some
more orange. One thing I was thinking was that the bridge itself looks to "clean" compared to the railing... Any tips there?

The bridge is mostly done, and here are some of my Esher girls posing on top. What remains are details like posters, graffiti etc. don't have an exact plan for that so I'll try some things and see what sticks one problem though, the broken pillar doesnt fit flush against the underside of the bridge, don't know how I'll fix that exactly...

WIP on another piece. At this point it's just sprayed silver and slathered in a highly diluted wash of GWs Typhus Corrosion, which I've discovered is quite excellent! It has very fina sand mixed in, which gives an ever so slight texture to whatever you put it on. The color is also excellent for grime.

Great stuff - love your craft world color scheme. My only thought is that the bridge is too "clean" - the transition from rusty rails to concrete is too abrupt. Love that tower.

Thank you! I like the colors as well, except every other Eldar army seems to be blue and bone these days

I also agree about the bridge, which is why I would ask you to follow along this post.

...because I got a lot done today! First of all, I uploaded all pics in this thread to my Dakka gallery and changed the embedded pictures in every post. Yay! But on to the bridge...

First of all, I tried to solve the problem of magnetizing the bridge for transport. I bought this magnetic sheet:

...but it didn't work at all, it was way too weak to hold the bridge up. So I tried magnets:

...which didn't work either. It toppled over from the weight of the bridge itself. So then I had a stroke of genius. Sticks! Oh yes:

I drilled holes in the base and jammed the sticks into the pillars (they're made of foamboard), and tada! It worked perfectly. Very sturdy. At the moment I haven't anchored the bridge to the pillars, but I'll work on securing it later. It actually works fine as is, simply putting it on top.

So then it was time to start the final touches on the bridge.

I started by weathering the pillars and bridge with my new best friend, watered-down Typhus Corrosion:

I also broke up the rust in spots with some orange:

I painted some graffiti and weathered it:

And finally I glued some printed posters here and there and weathered them:

And now... it's done!

Sorry for the lack of updates, it's been a busy week! I'll have the whole weekend for myself, so expect to see some updates. I have had time to start working on a conversion of Illic Nightspear into a Solitaire:

I switched the head for that of a Dire Avenger Exarch and sculpted a hood over it. I also switche out his left arm holding his rifle for an empty hand making it seem like he's balancing himself or perhaps making a sign for someone to be quiet! All that's missing is his Harlequins Kiss on his right arm and he's done! Might also switch out the thingie he's standing on for something more Harlequinesque.

Finished the tank/tower! Rusted it all over with weathering powders and put on some warning signs and of course, hazard stripes.
