That's true, and I certainly could have minimized the abs with painting technique but I try to do the figures pretty stock so the customer knows what they're getting.

Stylistically the entire AWI range is heavily idealized and iconic so it makes sense to me. They remind me of the Aztec warriors painted by Jesus Helguera.

Thanks for sharing. I'm no Historical player, but these guys with minor conversion and some weapon swaps could make very nice Hobbit-style Orc Hunters.

My dad has been on a big time Native American kick. He tends to collect tin/ lead toy soldiers in 1/32-1/35 scale, but we've been wanting to drag him down to 28mm where he can fight our ravenous hordes of reptiles, orcs, and rats.

These would be perfect. Early Father's Day gift perhaps?

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

Yep, fair play. No use for them personally, but you have to admire that level of detail on (seemingly) realistically scaled multi-part plastics

I wonder how they'd mix with the survivors to make a modern gang?

After their other AWI minis I expected something good, and I'm not disappointed.

That one second from the left seems to be doing a silly walk, though.

Spoiler:

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.

Always good to see some original ideas coming through and some new miniature lines, makes a change to just some more sculpts of Imperial Romans and the like!

Now just feel like I need a mini of Daniel Day Lewis and some soothing Irish music to listen to while playing Muskets and Tomohawks..

Does a suitable Daniel Day Lewis model exist modeled after Last of the Mohicans?

I know there's a Bill the Butcher inspired figure in the Wild West Exodus line, but does a Bumppo figure exist?

Hmmm I was thinking maybe mixing this Warlord Games Falxmen and/or Perry Sudanese Tribesmen would make them ethnically-ambiguous barbarian fantasy warriors.

Or Mantic zombies. Native American zombies yo. Since everyone is doing zombies anyway.

Speaking of those abs...

OK the Indians have bodybuilder/superhero bodies because here and now that's what we expect/respect.

But... anyone know what a real warrior 200-250 years ago might have looked like?

It seems to me that as hunter gatherers most braves would be a bit pot-bellied in summer/fall, and gaunt in winter/spring. They certainly would be strong and fit, but would not have the sort of muscle definition

Can anyone who actually knows something chime in?

From what I understand the WGF folks wanted to have a stylized American War of Independence with the regular forces looking all prim and proper and the militia to have a more rag tag look of civvies just answering the call to battle. The Indian's were a design choice to show them as 'savage' warriors, the best way to do that is to have them more like barbaric image of Indians. If this was a realistic portrayal some of the natives would have European shirts and coats, or more buckskins at the very least since this game is set on the east coast and things can get cold and wet out here real quick.

Oh yeah I'm not criticizing WGF for their choice, I mean I play GW games who am I to talk about realism, I just wonder what would be their most likely appearance.

It's hard to say really, almost certainly not as 'defined' in musculature as the miniatures.

Take a look at the Warlord plastic Zulus- very stylized, muscled, and idealized. The WGF Zulus (one of the earlier kits) are much more realistic in body shape and pose. There are photos of Zulu warriors that show the more potbellied body type you're talking about. If any of the accounts are true they were no softies despite not looking like bodybuilders.

I personally was surprised to see that none of the WGF Indians had European shirts. I'm probably going to try some mixing with the Militia set, the hunting shirt bodies in particular will help bring some more firing poses into the warband.
