So I'm digging the new book, like a whole lot. The detachment with plug and play formations is imo a really nice touch.

That being said I despise the look of the tomb blades. They look so dumb, and I wish I didn't have to take them with the decurion. Game wise they are a good unit, but I just can't get over their looks.

Does anyone else feel the same way? I can't be the only person who thinks they are fugly. Are there any good conversions or counts - as to use instead?

Let us solve this conundrum together!

Aye, they are one of the worst looking models GW has ever released.

Some ideas:

I think they're pretty darn funky myself.

The only reason I didn't get any last edition is that I didn't like the rules.

Best luck finding a model you like better though!

Well, I have a unit of 6 and I don't feel that they look too bad.

I like the looks of them. That being said, if you don't like them use the rules and use "counts as" units then. It's hard to play a game that you don't like the mini for. So use a mini that you do like an use that.

I don't see what the big deal is. Use a mini that you like.

on the forum. Obviously

Eh, I don't mind them.
I think they would look better though if there was some poor human in the seat instead of a necron.
Like, the brain would be hooked up to a computer interface and be forced to work as an additional CPU.

Just imagine it, a half decayed corpse forcibly kept alive by ancient tech, driven to destroy it's former allies by strict programming. That's the sort of horror I remember the necrons for.

I really like the Tomb Blades haha. CthulusSpy's idea above sounds awesome though, more like the Lovecraftian horror of old, I do love that side of the Crons.

The tomb blades are actually pretty awesome models, but it wasn't until a built and painted a unit of them that I felt that way.

Love doesn't always happen at first sight, I suppose.

i whole heartedly HATE the tomb blade design and i have been playing necrons since the begining of 40k 5th ed. i wanted something beefier then the garbage GW gave us for the model. here is a link to my lastest conversions i came up with. aimed away from the eldar look and more of a bike look. still a work in progress and will be using magnets for the weapon and sensor options. enjoy and feel free to tell me what you think.

Ork player here, I don't mind their look. If I played necrons, the one thing I'd change about my tomb blades would be the placement of the weapons. Rather than mount them on the jetbike, I'd replace the pilot's arms with them, destroyer style. It just looks cool when I picture it in my head.

Best of luck with finding alternative models anyway! The conversion ideas posted in the thread seem pretty neat, any one of them could work in my opinion.

Skeptical about the conversions, but Puppets War is the most incredible collection of obviously-not-Warhammer-move-along I've ever seen.

Not sure how effective it'd be, but I'd take the pilot out and maybe mount the gun in its place. Make them look like robots rather than space wheels.

Or you could embrace the wheel and become death.

What's wrong with Stormravens? Like every other IoM vehicle, it just looks like someone took a 21st century vehicle and said STEROIDS, RAWR!

Off topic, but that's not quite Lovecraftian It's still incredibly grim dark, though. Sounds kind of Dark Eldary

I dunno, I like the regular ones fine. I think of them as floating armored robo centaurs. With moxy.

But in any case, I think your conversions look pretty good too, so more power to yeh. Good job on em man

Im not a big fan of the tombblade models either.

However im willing to forgive that because ruleswise I find them to be one of the best units necrons have. Immortals that move 12" and ignore cover? yes please.

Another proof if necessary that GW should've won that Chapterhouse lawsuit.

I mean who other than a Necron GW customer would buy that thing ??

GW winning that lawsuit would have done nothing about that. They're not using a GW trademarked name, they're not advertising it in any way related to anything GW, it's simply visually derivative, yet distinct (i.e. it's not a directly copy of a tomb-blade, and doesn't come with a rider). There's absolutely nothing wrong with that and nothing GW could do about it even if they won the CH lawsuit entirely.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

My mistake, it is indeed different than Chapterhouse, although I find it similar in another way:
Somebody is making money selling miniatures to GW customers, and 99% of their business is driving sales away from GW who created the need for that sale, the fluff and everything.

A bit like others sell alternative miniatures for WHFB under the pretense of having their own fantasy battle game (lol).
I find it revolting that anyone can build their own alternative Necrons and sell them without a dime going to the guys who actually created and popularized tomb kings in space.

See how that's wrong ? I mean who did all the hard job here ? GW or puppetswar ? Why does one even buy those things ? And lo, surprise, those people also have Wraiths and Scarabs and ...

If I were to start selling lightswords tomorrow, I'm pretty sure I'd have an issue with Lucas Arts - scratch that, Disney - and that would be fair because I would just be plagiarizing their creation and making money off it.

Hoo boy. How much is GW paying you?

Its not wrong at all for people to seek out variants they like better. Why should I buy metal Mordians that are missing many wargear options and have a handful of static poses when I can buy resin models from Vic that look better and have all the options I need. Or, why buy platic Cadians when Vic also makes old school Cadian look-a-likes with reasonable proportions, better details, and more options/customization. Companies like Mad Robot or Puppetsofwar, or Secret Weapon all offer something GW doesn't, and do so at a reasonable price. Don't blame them for filling a demand. If you're so upset that people dare buy something not-GW to use in a GW game, then blame GW for not filling that need.

This is what happens in a free market. If there's a demand, it will be filled. If GW wanted that money, they'd find a way to get it.

*Edit* Let also ask if you're okay with people using the following if they weren't GW products:
-Paint
-Modelling supplies/tools
-Bases
-Terrain
-Carrying cases
