Im looking to pick up between 8-10 Thunderwolf Cav for my Space Wolves.
However to do so would cost €125+
Has anyone kitbashed something similar or found suitable proxies? Im not really concerned with WYSIWYG or being "GW official".
I concede ebay etc is an option but any other ideas that would be cheaper?

A 3-Pack of TWC costs $65.50, for a unit price of $21.83. A 9-Pack would cost $199.50.

2x 5-Pack of Fenrisian Wolves [29.75 ea] + 10 pack of Blood Claws [$44.75] = 10 pack of TWC, for a cost of $104.25, unit price $10.43, less than half price. Will probably need a bit of rework on the legs, but not much.

Sorry to burst the bubble, but Fenrisian Wolves are about half the size of Thunderwolves, that conversion would really not work that well.

I'm going to do a rare thing and say that in this case, the actual kit is worth it (after online discount). You get plenty of cool bits, and the models themselves are great. Just buy one box, then another, then another further down the line, and it's not such a huge financial dent.

This, it's really hard to find anything TWC-ish that doesn't look like a terrible knock off and TWC don't need a huge pack. I've been using a single set of three for a while now and they work great.

Well that's why you get 2 Wolves and have the Blood Claw ride them with a foot on each of the wolves backs.

On a more serious note, if you don't care about them being actual Wolves you could check out the various cavalry from fantasy.

I have some FB Mournfang Cavalry with SW riders on them. Look great and get lots of comments.

I didn't make to save costs. I bought them from a dude when literally there wasn't models for TWC.

Otherwise, I always thought Bloodcrushes or juggernoughts would look cool. Im kinda grimdrak...

Wouldn't that end up costing more? 10 Mournfang are $181 + $37 for 10 PA Space Wolves = $218, or $21.80 per model. Thunderwolf Cav is $54.50 for 3, so $18 per model.

Bloodcrushers are the same price as TWC, so would also end up costing more.

I'm not really sure if there is many cheaper options, even if you move away from GW and try and find bear cav or something, are they actually any cheaper?

If you mad the wolves standing on hummocks or piles of rubbleor something like that, the overall model could be about the same height as the "official" ones. The "look" would be different but they would have the same height profile. Would need bases the correct size though. Could buy the bases sepeate or trace them to make them out of thin board or whatnot.

Yeah I know you said that... I just wondered why you'd suggest them when the express purpose of the thread was to make cheaper TWC, I thought maybe you thought they would save money even though you personally didn't do it to save money

How about some sort of countsas? Are there any large monsters made by a company that you could use, out the same size, fit in with ice or viking or werewolf imagery that you could arm? Like maybe some sort of ce giant or Hoth monster?

Scibor makes SciFi Celtic bear riders, but they're more expensive than GW's TWC.

Step 1 Go to Michaels art supply.
Step 2 Buy varous wolf/Dog figures at about 5$ each (less if your military as they have a discount)
Step 3 Take a Space wolf/Blood claw pack and bash
Step 4 add bases.

These look good and are the right scale and with the claws models it's GW enough to satisfy most places/tournies.
Cost for 6 "Wolves" is around 30$ add marine bits for say 20$ and you are running at about half price or lower if you have lots of extra bits.
