A large number of Warhammer hobbyists are collectors at heart. Much as we might poo-poo GW's statement about the GW hobby being about collecting GW miniatures, many of us have a Gollum-like tendency towards squirrelling away limited edition goods, be they third party primarch figures, or Games Day figures from the nineties.

I've personally managed to acquire a number of the female Cadian/commissar conversion kits created and distributed by the Phoenix Wargames Club the better part of a decade ago. I've also got some of those gorgeous truescale marine conversion kits Anvil Industries did before they got C&D'd by GW, and the corresponding ones sold by Chapterhouse. I've just been lucky enough to score one of the vic miniatures Kolonel Elisabeth Dietrich to stash away next to last year's Adepticon model by her. And last but not least, I also managed to grab some of a very small run of LE IG jacket torsos by good ol' Col. Gravis.

So, what rare miniatures have you got lurking in your modelling cabinets?

This Is Where the Fish Lives

I have a Fine Molds 1/72 scale Millennium Falcon that I acquired when Fine Molds brought it back on a limited reissue last year (shortly before their Star Wars license expired) and it is now discontinued. It retailed for around $200 (give or take, depending on the exchange rate between USD and the yen) and is now going for $400+ on eBay. Before it was brought back for the reissue, it was going for as much as $500-$600. Depending on what happens with future Star Wars models, it might be worth that much again.

I've got a Chaos Dwarf Wizard, a handful of KS exclusives, all of the Warlord Games day minis, and the frothers charity Tank Girl & Booga from last year.

Most of my IG are now OOP as well, including the 2nd Ed Yarrick, and I think all of the metal characters from 6th Ed.

I had a few other special edition GW/FW pieces but they were mostly finecast so I got rid.

Hmmm tricky as I have quite a few but my favs are;

The Chainsaw Warrior 3 mini set but the main one serves as my IG Colonel.
Chainsaw wizard used as a IG Priest.
Mad Donna Ulanti.

Not really LE but worth allot; a whole army of '86-90 Dwarves, probably 3-4000 points worth including orginal slotta Bugman's regiment and Dragon Company x2, flame cannon and 2x Goblobber. These are my addiction, my obsession, my precious!

A bunch of OOP FW stuff, the best one being Shadowsword #98 (out of at least 1500-2000) and a set of the interior detail parts for it:

(Not my tank, mine's still in the box waiting for me to have the confidence to build and paint it.)

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

I have an entire Chaos fleet for Man O'War consisting of 3 Hellgalleys, 3 Ironsharks, 1 Plague ship and 1 Tzeentchian flying fortress. And no less than three (yes, 3) unused, mint condition mast sprues that I need to make moulds of.

After that there is my old Imperial Steam Tank, a series of 1st edition (pre-slotta) Citadel mini's, Praznagar, the Prince of Agony, A Greyseey character I cant remember the name of - hes the one whom recaptured the Black Arc from the Amber Wizards, a MK1 Rhino, and some other little things including a Matchbox Churchill AVRE (in need of some repairs (and still at my old school in the display cabinet))

Free from GW's tyranny and the hobby is looking better for it

The closest I have is this guy:

I believe it was a GW webstore exclusive a few years back. Hardly the rarest thing about, but seeing as I was given it for free and it goes for abou £25 on Ebay, I reckon I was pretty lucky there. Not that I'd ever sell it, it's too cool!

Some of my LotR stuff may end up more valuable in time (and there are plenty I wish I got years ago, seeing the resale prices now that make it impossible to get them). Ultimately, though, no matter the kit's rarity, it's worth more to me as something to paint up and play with than sitting in a box gathering dust and value. I've never bought into this 'keep it in the box' idea, for game stuff, action figures, whatever.

And I definitely want me one of those!!!

I also just remembered that I have two Terminator conversion kits from Irina_est, who vanished off the face of the earth a few years ago. Here's a picture of one (thousand sons terminators) minus the gorgeous intricate shoulder pads they came with, I can't find a picture of one of the other on the web, but it's a set of six generic heresy terminator armour conversion kits.

I don’t think I’ve got anything that could be classified as “rare” Everything I've picked up has been off the shelf of a FLGS. That said, I’ve got a shedload of really, really, old stuff.

A bunch of metal squats. Rarity is relative, but they're apparently desireable that I could never afford them via ebay.

As for real rarities, I've got lots of figs that most folks have never seen, but they're not necessarily valuable, just old.

I still kind regret selling the set of space dwarves that Bob Olley sculpted for the "Simtac" company. Those were Rare and valuable.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

Turns out I have a fair amount of limited edition or just ancient stuff.

Some of my oldest things are an Ambull and an original Land Raider.

But I have tons of things, such as this, and this, and both of these guys and two of these guys, and this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and her, and her, and this.

By far though, the one rare thing that I have that I love the most, is the full Skullz Adeptus Mechanicus set.

Unreleased Epicast Knight Titan (finally have official rules for it)

A bunch of original run Harlequins including the Solitare (Bought all 25 of them for $30 about 8 years ago)

OOP Dreamcast resin 15mm Leviathan Crusader

OOP Dreamcast Gabriel Knight (the resin one that GW made them discontinue)

Unreleased Armorcast titan heads

(I almost bought an Armorcast Warlord titan, but the guy was a crook and sold it to a number of different people and never sent it to anyone)

Where the female commissar and the Female Catachan Grenade launchers really that rare? I (just by chance) happen to have three of those commissars and about a dozen of those grenade launchers (Two command squads with 4 each, plus some in squads).

I've been collecting a lot of armorcast and epicast stuff. The only things I am missing is a Great Gargant, Armorcast Warlord, and an Armorcast Squiggoth. The last two were never released.

I have a Dogs of War army, my Dad has Chas Dwarves and Hobgoblins. They aren't rare as such but would cost quite a bit to acquire on eBay and the like.

I have quite a bit of Rogue Trader stuff, some are now becoming rare like the patriarch on his throne.

Well none of my miniatures are from after 1996, most are from 1985 to 1988...

So I guess all 500 of them are collectable.

Most rare? No idea... But the Dwarf with No-Name is sought after, as are my Chaos Dwarfs and Squats.

Live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about his religion. Respect others in their views and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life. Beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and of service to your people. When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.
