Changing Our Legion's Name

Reach

Hello!

It's been a while since I've posted anything, and having decided to finally finish a 40k army from start to end, I thought I'd share some pictures of work so far!

This army will be almost entirely drop-pod mounted, or at least the dreadclaw-tastic chaos equivalent, with the theme of being pirates/raiders, so there'll be a few Imperial vehicles that have been nicked for use in the force. Additionally, all of the soldiers that can will have Veterans of the Long War, due to a large amount of the Claws of Lorek being composed of Badab veterans.

As it stands, the army list is (with potential changes due to the new dreadclaw/chaos kharbydis rules):
- Lord Gorbadax Thral (Terminator Lord with Dimmensional Key and Chainfist)
- 2 CSM squads (Two Plasma Guns, Power Fist and a Dreadclaw)
- Cultists (Mostly because I need something on the board, and found that these were a nice cheap option who I could hide somewhere)
- 2 Heldrakes (I'm sorry!)
- Obliterators
- Terminators (9 strong, to ride about with the lord in the Kharbydis)
Comes to about 2000pts, with a little to throw about in case of any glaring issues

Any thoughts on the army list would be deeply appreciated!

Anyway, onto some pictures of the first squad
Spoiler:

Bolters

Spoiler:

And a small teaser for the second squad
Spoiler:

I do apologise for the slightly blurry images, it's quite hard to tell how they are on my tiny camera screen, and it seems to love to focus on slightly weird places

Thank you for taking the time to have a look, more will be on the way soon!

i play regular maries and i didn't know chaos could use drop pods. a while ago i collected caos sm on a small scale (a few squads, a land raider and some other units) but i stopped and started collecting a 8000 point regular marine army all because at the time i was choosing i couldn't find and chaos temies.
i am thinking about going back to chaos and i will base them on your style of painting and posing. really good models (i shouldnt of given them up and i gave them to my friend )

Thanks for the encouragement! It's a really fun scheme to paint, I found that "evil sunz scarlet" really makes the red pop.
I'm hoping to post finished or at the least WiP pictures every two days, based on how things play out, I still need to source another cc cultist from somewhere

Hello again!
So, I'm afraid progress might be a little slower than previously posted, work/studying has taken hold in force, but I'll try and keep updating this regularly!

Slight change in plan with the army list, based on some feedback and testing/playing with stand ins:
- Kharybdis is gone, to essentially land a 10-strong terminator unit, 260 points did not seem worth it
- Cultist unit is rocking the sidelines, considering Dreadclaws can now deploy turn 1
- I hope to build some Hellblade fighters using drop pods, so I'll try and get a tutorial on that done
- Obliterators brought down to 1 strong, didn't seem worth the investment
- To fill the void in points, a Decimator has been added in, along with a Chaos Fire Raptor

And on to some WiP shots

Chaos Space Marines Squad 2 is underway, almost half done, at which point I'll start working on the big blob of Terminators
Spoiler:

And there is a kit-bashed Dark Apostle in there, still torn about throwing him into the army, but I'll paint him up regardless

Two of the bolter marines so far, featuring one of my favourites poses out of the box so far
Spoiler:

Cultists, one of which I still need to source, and the champion is armed with a boarding shield (base champ in-game), inspired by the Claws of Lorek's piratical nature
Spoiler:

That's all for now, and once again, I apologize for the dodgy focus on the camera, still trying to get a handle on that.
Thanks for having a look!

Hello again!

Sorry for the delay in posting, but coursework is done for a while, hopefully things can pick up a little!

Starting with some WiP shots, which are fairly boring
Spoiler:

Onto the completed grunts of squad 2
Spoiler:

This is by far my favourite pose so far, loved building the CSM boxes for this reason

Spoiler:

Just a standard grunt here

Afraid that's all for now, only a small update, and not very exciting.
Hopefully I'll be able to show off some slightly more exciting things soon, once I've got my grunts out of the way

Thanks for having a look!

Hello again!

Just a quick update, I'll post some big pics once the CSM squads are both done
Also, based on the fact I did not want to have to invest in a 3-strong box of Obliterators when I only wanted one, I whipped this guy up from a spare termi and a load of spare bits
Spoiler:

And yes, I know Obliterators technically don't have heavy bolters, but the bit looks super cool and I had to include it

Also, and I apologize for the poor lighting, a WiP pic of the second squad's Aspiring Champion, who is the last one to paint.

Hello!

So, here is the larger update that was promised, hopefully I'll be showing off a painted Obliterator from the last post soon
To kick things off, squad 2 in all it's glory!
Spoiler:

A little backstory, but I'll hide it for those of you who don't care for that sort of thing
Spoiler:
Squad Irakix, composed in an almost equal mixture of 1st and 2nd generation Claws, lead by the dishonoured bodyguard Junor Irakix, who during the siege of the Palace of Thorns, failed to protect his captain, and as such was stripped of his terminator armour. He still bears a small piece of his captain's Crux Terminatus on his shoulder guard, to remind him of his shame.
As such, Irakix has no place for those who may falter as he did, and finds particular hatred in his previous allies from Badab, such as the Lamenters or Executioners. His squad has found renegades of similar hatred, many of whom are close quarters specialists, welcome in the drop assaults the Claws of Lorek have come to favour.

And some individual shots
Squad Specialists
Spoiler:

Some poor Lamenter
Spoiler:

Some grunts
Spoiler:

The other grunts
Spoiler:

And an army shot! I know, impressive right? 2 whole CSM units!
Spoiler:

That's all for now, thank you for taking the time to have a look, C&C welcome as always!

Thanks again for the positive feedback guys!

I do apologise for the delay, but here's a little update running off the back of the last one,
May be a small wait until I post again, on account of finishing all the figures I currently have for my Claws, but birthday is tomorrow, so I'll show off any gubbinz from that

So, onto the finished obliterator, which has had a head-swap, to one slightly more possess-y and switching the heavy bolter for a lascannon, on the ground of me probably forgetting it has a lascannon if I don't put one on there

Lore-wise, I see this guy as being the Claws Ex-Master of the Forge, before the Badab War, so gave him the servo-harness bits. Additionally, he has a warp/galaxy map on the back of his plasma cutter, which I would like to think would roll down to his eye level, and allow him to also be a navigator of some kind.

Anyways, onto the pictures!
Spoiler:

This guy was also a bit of a test with using glazes on weapon muzzles for effects like this. I'd be very pleased to hear what you guys think!

Spoiler:

That's all for now then folks, thanks again for the positive messages, hope you enjoy!

Use a secondary light source when you photo your models, man. There's a lot of dark that obliterates the color and detail in your photos. Either that or don't use the auto-adjusted feature when you upload your pics.

You're making great progress and your minis look cool. I want to be able to see more of them.

Hello again!

Sorry for the lack of a proper update recently, the terminators have taken forever and a day to ship, and now they're finally on their way. Also, I'm in the process of weathering my marines. I felt they were a little too clean to be piratical renegades, so with the help of some technical paints I have started adding dirt and rust to their armour, ionsied barrels to their bolters and plasma guns and dust to their boots. Only a few are done, but they'll hopefully all be done in the next few days *bashes head against wall*

Anyways, hopefully I'll be able to bring things up to speed with a big update in a few days.

Thanks!

Reach

Greetings everyone!

So, this isn't the big update yet, that'll be when I start painting everything/done with weathering my CSM units, but it's something!

Ok! First and foremost, the terminators finally arrived, and I have some post-build shots to show off:
Spoiler:

And the Champion, who has a ceremonial shield and a bionic chain-peg-leg!
Spoiler:

Now, the most hideous conversion I have done, simply because it was a complete pain to repose the hands on the terminators so that they lined up properly with the spear. I present Lord Gorbadax Thral! His wings are simply to stand in for a cloak, there is no hope in hell of a terminator suit flying with those
Spoiler:

And as already mentioned, I have started weathering my CSMs, so here is a WiP shot to show how those are getting on. I'll try and get a better shot of the ionised barrels, because they really didn't show up well in this photo, but you get the gist; dirt, rust, dust, etc.
Spoiler:

Thanks again for reading, and I know there are inevitably a metric tonne of mould lines on the terminators, but I'll make sure they're all gone before I start painting!

looking good, how are you basing your minis? what i do is glue aquarium sand down on the base (which has previously been sculpted with plasticine) and put 1 layer of thickened imperial primer, i then paint mechanicus standard grey leaving black in the recess and then drybrush dawn stone grey over. then i very lightly drybrush ceramite white and then put a layer of agrax earthshade over it, after it has all dried i pva glue on some realistic looking flock and it is finished! i like the look of yours

Funny you should say that, my method is almost identical! Exactly the same paint process, minus the earthshade, so I might try that in the future, and I use superglue for flock instead, find it helps make the grass spikier. Glad you like them! Hopefully I'll be updating with pics of the 20 weathered marines very soon, and then I can crack on with the Termis!

Thanks Levi! Hopefully he'll look better once I've given him a lick of paint. A few things happened to him between this stage and basecoat: I put a spike on the pommel of the spear, just to give it a more finished appearence and a horn on his left shoulder pad from the trim, to help lord him up in a Garrosh Helscream kind of way I look forwards to seeing what you guys think!

Well, I was hoping to, but I also am uncertain of who/what he/she/it is! Seeing as the Claws of Lorek lore is so limited, I have the luxury of being able to do pretty much whatever I want and keep it fluffy as long as there's a piratical theme, but also, it means names that ARE mentioned really don't help, so I have no idea if Lorek is a warlord, a daemon-prince (like with Harkannor's Reavers) or even a planet, which would be the biggest issue

Hmm. I saw some fan versions of Lorek being a sergeant or captain of the Astral Claws (or Tiger Claws) who went renegade after the Badab War and starting his own little warband. But, hey it's entirely up to you! you have a lot of freedom so go wild

Anyways, onto a minor update, I have finished all my weathering and have started on terminators, with a test model to show you!
This was also the first time I had attempted the lense effect on space marine eyes, and I feel like it's turned out alright, but I am eager to hear what you think!
Spoiler:

One thing that hasn't come out all that great in these photos, probably because of the right-hand lighting, are the highlights on the power fist, it look far more prickly and sharp than in these shots

Spoiler:

And finally, a little teaser of the next terminator, who I am trying out another new technique on, I would be pleased with any feedback on this too!
Spoiler:

Thanks for having a look!
Hopefully I'll be able to provide some more terminator goodness soon!

looking good, I tried superglue for my flock and it worked alot better that pva, the earthshade doesn't do much, i do it just because it is more of a ritual now. i like the look of your termies, it annoys me because i collect regular marines and it is alot harder to personalise them than chaos ones

Glad to hear it worked out for you! Ah, hehe, we all have them Yeah, I found that way back when I played Ultramarines (1st army), the terminators essentially had a set series of poses that didn't look ridiculous, and were all fairly samey looking, must say I do prefer the Chaos ones, simply because of the amount of customization available!

Now, I said a while ago that the army list I posted was most likely a WiP, well, now that I have IA: 13, some fairly major changes have been made, and I thought I'd list them with you guys.
FIrstly, the lord. He's been changed up a little, so has a power lance and power axe now instead of the previous loadout. Didn't feel the key was worth it considering the amount of dreadclaws flying about, so hopefully the new loadout can focus on killing fools.
The CSM squads are still the same as they were, so no change there.
Cultists were scrapped, along with the heldrakes. In fact, the only thing remaining from that last bit of the list is the Obliterator, simply because I need something nice and tankbusty while keeping with the theme.
Terminators are now mounted in a Storm Eagle instead of a Kharybdis, just seemed a much better option, and to round off the list, bringing it to 2000 points is a Fire Raptor , a Helblade and a Decimator Daemon Engine. Not super competitive, but that was never really the aim nor an interest of mine, and still fits the theme of pirates, everything can DS and almost every unit is mounted in a flyer of some kind.
