I can't say no to that Briancj! Looking in the second edition army list to make up a platoon I need 3 trooper squads and an auxila squad (5 veterans, ratlings or ogryns). So I'll work towards that. Please do post those pics.

Big H I hope you find your ninja rules.

Red Harvest I remember that one, but haven't seen him. I've got some commissars.

Graven - what kinda bits?

Very cool. Very Rogue Trader, but with a bit of modern dirtiness thrown in which compliments him perfectly.

He's number 2? When you paint number 6, be sure to paint it to look like Patrick McGoohan.

It does have a nice grizzled veteran look to it. Good job.

They are all number 2 I'm afraid.

Getting real good at painting 2s. Hopefully ones will be easy, and I've done 3s before.

One more - sergeant Velasquez.

And this is probably all I can paint today.

A sentinel arrived today! Excited. I need some big bases though.

Hiya Mymearan thanks for looking. They were a bit more original and sci-fi than today's guard weren't they. The sculpts are a little gritty though and reward a dirty, weathered paintjob better than a clean one.

Here's two more I painted. Its getting the helmet stripes straight that's slowing me down.

They look great and so individual. SGT Velasquez and the plasma gunner really catch my eye. The sergeant is a really nice sculpt and the plasma gun looks like a big bug. The way he holds it kind of contributes to my visual dilemma.

More today. And sentinels! If the postman will bring me my bases. Have to rely on the postman down here. The local model train/airfix shop has started selling spez marins but precious little else. At least I can get flock and glue.

Sentinels! These guyz are infinitely pose-able thanks to ball and socket joints and three part legs, also almost impossible to stick together thanks to a stupidly heavy body! It takes Green-stuff, drilling and patience. Probably understanding center of gravity helps. I cannot imagine everyone in the 80s having these skills which helps explain how horribly mangled and covered in weird epoxy glue these were.

As someone who just put together a RT era wraithlord, I feel your pain. Tall and spindly and lead do not go well together.

Love the old egg though. Silly, but classic!

I'm tempted to give the pilot arms, he does look a little silly all straight-jacketed in his cockpit.

Anyhoo, I finished another three guardsmen to make up the next half-squad.

Heavy bolter - did Iforget to dirty this guy? damn I think I did.

Coms guy. His helmet was the wrong shape for stripes.

Brilliant stuff. Nicely random and characterful models. I probably still prefer the Nineties metals but still nicer than either the Cadian or Catachan plastics

Ugh, that reminds me of building 3 Penitent Engines... "Hey! Lets put a 2 pound hunk of lead atop two freely spinning axles, which are then atop 2 inch long chicken legs!"

When I finally knocked one off the table and broke it, I didn't even care. It had it coming.

Yes, this is one of the disadvantages of metal. But they never let that stop them! Oh no. What I need is a zero G environment in which to assemble the little blighters. Book me on the vomit comet I have a sentinel to assemble.

Actually I've done the next best thing and rested them upside-down on their heads while the glue and GS dries.

Yeah these are the really pre-historic sentiels Girrafex. Its amazing I can still find them for under a tenner.

I loved those 90s imperial guard Llamahead. Especially valhallans. What I love about the RT stuff is its sci-fi look. You get the impression that these are dystopian future warriors with lasers, not just ethno-military stereotypes like the 90s guard(especially valhallans).

Looks great, Weety. I'm still sad that I didn't hang on to my Original Sentinels and sold my old, old IA/IG army back when I was a teenager.

Very sad. I'd of loved to see you repaint that. Hope you got a fair price!

The sentinels are on their feet, for now...

I think the subtle differences in how I stuck these two together illustrates its flexibility. If only they had made the body plastic it wouldn't have been such a pain to assemble. All I need is a third one to complete the squadron. I could make it sprinting with enough wire and patience.

Looking good! I remember the typical way to assemble the Sentinels back in the day was with a kind of "Z-shaped" layout.

Spoiler:

I got about $500 for my large infantry army, made of RT models as well as the carapace/plastic arm-era guys and a decent sized detatchment of Squats on and off biked with a Warlord and Hearthguard in "egg" armour. I bought a Commodore Amiga with the money. At least I've managed to pick up a few of the RT guys again since then for eventual strip and repaint.

Amigas were pretty cool. I recall friends having them (we had the BBC basic computer, anyone remember 'Granny's Garden"?). Well worth a RT army. I'm not sure which would be worth more now. Depends on condition.

That sentinel is headed for a face plant...

It's one of those things, I guess. While I regret selling the IG, but I don't regret getting the Amiga - aside from just spending a lot of time playing games, I used it for a hell of a long time since I learned how to type, and bolt more things onto it which helped me learn about computers and how to use them to the degree that they're part of my work today - and it was a great piece of hardware for friendships and bonding with people and other such fun that came out of it.

I only got around to binning it earlier this year. Unfortunately more work than it was worth to me to try and sell or resurrect.

Hey! I love my ethno-military Valhallans, Praetorians and Mordians!

Seriously, I understand what you're saying. Hey, you want an old sentinel still in the box? Not the original egg model that you have, but the newer chicken walker from the 90's? I just like the newest ones too much to still use the older ones. I bought this one right before the newest plastic ones came out.

I stand corrected... That wacky guard humour eh?!

I loved the Amiga to I have to say... Me and my mates spent many hours crowded round it - still have fond memories of Sensible Soccer, Flashback, Chaos Engine, Speedball 2...

Looking at the 2nd ed army list it says imperial guard used to have assault squads! So I'm making one from the armless men. Check them out. Running very low on RT era plastic pistols now. Better go shopping...
