Hi folks, we generally play 1000 points at my FLGS and the current bully on the block uses WoC. Trying to stretch the points out on a High Elf list to deal with them and that damned Hellcannon. Any help appreciated.

Here's the list as it stands:

Noble (General) - GW, Hvy Armor, Lion Cloak, Shield - 84

Noble (BSB) - Hvy Armor, Lion Cloak, Shield - 105

Mage - Level 2, Lore of Metal, Dispel Scroll - 145 (chose Metal because Warriors)

Lothern Sea Guard x19 - Full command, Shields - 258

Sword Masters x21 - Full command, Banner of the World Dragon

Great Eagle - Armor piercing - 55

Total: 1000

Not a lot of bodies on the table, and still pretty vulnerable to that Hellcannon. I like metal because he usually takes a min size unit of Chaos Knights and a block of Chaos Warriors. Suggestions? Other potential opponents in the group are Skaven, Beastmen, and Dwarfs (that I've seen so far).

The Lair of Vengeance....Poole.

White Lions + BoTWD is your best answer. S6 does more than 2 S5 attacks.

Plus Stubborn.

That way, you can replace the Noble with an Archmage.

Frost phoenix and lvl 4 are better. Drop the extra noble as general. Use you mage as general and get more troops
White lions are good as well. I would get either the +1 leadership banner or razor banner for banners if you're going to take any.

Spread your sword masters out 6-7 wide and get lore of shadow or high magic to lower the enemy WS and I or boost your own

I don't think the armour on your characters will be doing much, particularly vs warriors. The lion cloak and shield will only help vs shooting, but they shouldn't be the ones getting shot.

The seaguard may as well be archers, particularly at that size. If you rank them 6 wide you won't really be losing out on attacks.

I like the White Lions and going up to a Level 4. The Frost Phoenix though, that's a quarter of my army at this points level, is it that good? More importantly, is it that good compared to all I would have to give up to take it? I need the World Dragon banner to protect the high point value troops from the damned Hellcannon. I've been thinking metal because of the good armor on the WoC, would Shadow be a better choice (if so, why)?

At this level, a quarter of your army on a model that is vulnerable to hellcannons isn't that good a prospect.

Okay, so my first match was a spectacular fail. That Hellcannon ate my Eagle and Core troops, leaving the White Lions to get slaughtered by the combined Warriors, Knights, and Marauders. Had some bad Magic phases and he had a couple of lucky Hellcannon bullseyes, but I won't blame that for my loss.

So what next? Bolt throwers? That S5 template vs my T3 elves is a killer, seems like I have answers for everything else in his army but that. That Phoenix seems like it might work, but it's such a huge point sink that I hesitate to take it at such a low point game.

you tactics are wrong but thats just practice which you ll get plenty of plus at 100 point WoC is a bad match up for HE

my advice kill the cannon with shooting and ranged magic then focus on his list

its hard with elves at 1000 try going to 1500 or 2000 and you'll have better luck
