Lizardmen are a great army, I'd place them in upper-middle tier. Great in combat, magic, and shooting. Lots of viable units and a good model range if you dig the aesthetic.

The following units are worth taking IMO, as an opponent to many competent lizardmen players:
-Slann
-Skink priests
-Scar vets
-Saurus warriors
-Chameleon skinks
-Temple guard
-Stegadons and Bastiladons
-Ripperdactyls or terradons
-Salamanders

I would recommend staying away from jungle swarms and skink regiments.

You'll want to start by reading the Lizardmen army book. If you're looking for some story, I hear the End Times Thanquol book is full of Lustrian goodness.

No one knows what's going to happen to them after 9th drops. Rumor is that huge swathes of the entire Fantasy line are being removed and most of what is left will get new kits. So, hard to say. I doubt they will be removed, especially since they received several new models very recently.

Well lizardmen are like a brick house, slow and sturdy (though skinks are fast). Taking a block of temple guard with a slann is the normal anvil. You can go with a bunch of skinks with javelins running around. Or you can have a ton of Dinos running around.

I would first recommend buying the rule book and finding what you like, then find out how big you want to make your army.

As for lizardmen going away, doubt it.

Yeah lizardmen almost certainly do not suck in fact (and i've said it many times) they have the most balanced army book in fantasy with almost every single unit worth it's weight in points. 2 battalion boxes, a slann, and the army book is a great start to an army and is exactly in line with the kind of army i want to build when i eventually start them (currently working on WEs).

ToW armies I own:
Empire: 10,000+
Chaos Legions: DoC- 10,000+; WoC- 7,500+; Beastmen- 2,500+; Chaos Dwarves- 3,500+
Unaligned: Ogres- 2,500; Tomb Kings- 3,000
Hotek: Dark Elves- 7,500+; High Elves- 2,500
40k armies I own:
CSM- 25,000+

thanks every one ive gotten the army book going to start reading it, when i started 40k i spent a ton of money and my army sucked so i htink im kind of going to cheat and look at a ton of armys first and some battle reports and see what every one uses most, like how the one guy said slan and temple guard is normal, then i know im not wasting my money if i get them. im pretty pumped to play, my buddy has a 2k point skaven army and i want to whoop em lol.
