1)
CCS
2 plasma
chimera + dozer blade
60 + 30 + 70 = 160

Veteran squad x 2
2 plasma
chimera + dozer
60 + 30 + 70 = 160

480 pts, 20 left for whatever

2)
CCS
4 plasma
chimera + dozer
60 + 60 + 70 = 190

Veteran squad
3 plasma
chimera + dozer
60 + 45 + 70 = 175

Veteran squad
60

Wyvern
65

490 pts, 10 left for whatever

Suggestions, ideas? Pros/cons?

I like list 1, it's focused and effective. The naked vets in list 2 are just kinda sitting there.

For list 1, add a heavy flamer to both vet squads. Maybe get your CCS meltas and/or melta bombs in case your enemy shows up with AV 14.

Yeah, in 2) the second veteran squad is there because I need a second troop choice. I only have 2 chimeras assembled, so I'll likely have to go with option 2). Maybe drop the extra plasmas (more than 2 so all can shoot out from a chimera), maybe add some melta and flamer.

Adding an astropath to the CCS seems like a nice addition. 2 plasma and a psychic shriek.

My 500pt list has:

HQ (315) Tank Commander in LR Vanquisher, with a LR Battle Tank
Troop (95) Veterans: Heavy Weapons Team (Missle + Flak), Foreward Sentries
Troop (90) Veterans: Heavy Weapons Team (Lascannon), Forward Sentries

Hopefully the Vanquisher and Lascannon can take care of any armor and the Flak Missiles can take care of any light fliers the enemy brought The Vets get 3+ Cover in ruins and hopefully the Leman Russes would have taken care of the biggest threats before the Veterans had to leave their cover to claim objectives.

So this is what I actually ran:

CCS
2 plasma
flamer
astropath
melta bomb
Chimera
dozer blade
195

Veteran
2 plasma
flamer
Chimera
dozer
165

Veteran
3 flamer
75

Wyvern
65

Made the bare veteran squad useful with 3 flamers, the astropath killed 2 terminators the first turn alond with exploding his own head, flamer seemed to be really useful even against MEQ, and I forgot to shoot with heavy bolters from a stationary chimera. Chimera has quite a lot of heavy weapons on it.

How did you fare overall?
I haven't used an Astropath as they hardly work for their points back. I have been trying to fit an LRBT into a 500 point Mech-AM list for a while, I can do it at 600-750 range, but below I think it may just be impossible.

Eradicator my friend, dirt cheap and hyper effective in low points battles. My astropath has a habit of psychic shrieking bloodthirsters to death while he suffers a gruesome fate to perils of the warp.

The only problem is getting that in at 500 points. I think the lowest I can do without sacrificing too much is 555 points. That includes 2x vets w/ 2x melta, chimera, and a CCS w/ 2x melta, chimera.

It was a friendly game against a new guy (I'm pretty new too), so this may not be the best sample, but it worked good.

Astropath is cool. Psychic shriek ignores toughness and armor, but not to hit (but at BS4), and you roll 3D6, while Ld max value is 10, so you have a nice chance to damage anything. Also, 25 pts for a warp charge is nice. My astropath's head expldoed because I threw all the warp charges I had, because I rolled 5 or 6 at the start of psychic phase, so I didn't wanted my opponent to have a chance at denying it. He did not. Just my astropath died. it happens.

At low point games I think you are way better of with wyvern. for the price of an LRBT (170IIRC) you can have nearly 3 Wyverns (195), and 3 wyvern wrecks everything that walks. With a single hit it remove the remaining 3 SMs of a tac squad, and there were plenty wounds remaining. It's not only good against light infantry, all those re-rolls and mass of wounds hurt higher T and armor targets too.

I think instead of full melta you should add plasma for mass of shots.

The Melta was to try and save points to get an LRBT in. Usually at 500 points I do a 2:1 for Melta vs Plasma squads. I am going to look into the Wyvern based off your recommendation.

I will say that's a very decent Guard list for 500 points. Against conventional players, you will have the advantage of heavy armor and long-range fire power.
