So I went to the las vegas open, and went 2-2 with the ork walkers in the friendly tournament.




I modified the list slightly, so it ended up being...


Stompa (codex version, not the mek one)
KFF Big Mek (warlord, just 5++)
9 killa kans (3 with grot, 6 with rokkit)
3 deff dreads (2 with double skorcha, 1 with big shootas)
Gorkanaut
Mega Dread

Unbound, no formations. (Should have done dread mob, but didn't have another gork and wanted to be WYSIWYG)

Thanks gitsplitta! I had an absolute BLAST playing it. I'm going to run a similar variant of it at NOVA open. (in narrative/trios). Dropping stompa, running dread mob, 2 grot squads, warboss in mega armor, a meka and mega dread. That one will be battle forged.

Typing up chaos walker bat rep now...boy these things take awhile to write!

They do. Always takes me hours and if I don't do them right away I tend to forget the details and get things mixed up.

Loved seeing ork walker lists in action, and loved the paint scheme you choose! Looking forward to more

I've always loved Ork walkers, currently putting together my own Dread Mob Formation.

Thanks! Glad you liked them. I'm def swapping my list around to run the dread mob at nova. Hoping for dread mob, mega dread, meka dread, and maybe a fourth deff dread just to be funny.

Let us know how it goes! I currently am building my way up to a dread mob as well, but don't quite have the cash to get it done right now... but it'd be super cool to see how it does in a game before I get to put my own on the table. (learning from others mistakes )

Hopefully the weather in the east coat breaks soon, and I can actually get back to working on them!

So far the one lesson I've learned is to lead with the strong walkers, and be aggressive. The killa kans are awful and will be mass targeted immediately as they are the easiest to kill. I tend to use them more as support then anything else these days.

So screening with the Kans isn't the way forward? Use the big things to draw fire?

Not had a chance to play my Dread Mob yet, only just gathered the models. Will be testing them for the first time on Monday.

That's an interesting observation greggles. When I get the beefier parts of my army built & painted I'll have to give that a try.

Awesome! Look forward to more walkers. They aren't that competitive though! Just be forewarned. Fun to play though...just gotta be prepared to lose 99% of your army in a bit to get that one turn

Yay more Ork reports! Mine have went 4-1 in our local escalation league. I put up the first one and haven't posted up the rest due to their being in narrative form instead of normal form. Also Greggles I think you entered some kans and a dred into the journeyman painting competition at the LVO correct? If not there were some kans that look really close to your there! I entered a Grukk Facerippa.

Understood. It's just the principal of the thing for me. Want the stompy bits moving across the field. Besides, I have a bunch of really nice craters and smoke that just looks fantastic strewn across the battlefield where my vehicles used to be!

I've tried booth. The av11 on the kans means they die rapidly. Lot of str 6 and str 7 on the field now. The av13 dreads (like the gork/mork) can weather that fire, and if they go for the kans, you'll at least have a cover save. I'd only lead with the kans if you had good cover or the KFF bubble. (of course depends on opponent, the main advantage of the dread list is all av, so you will counter much of an opponents "all comers" list from the get go).

I did see your grukk! Yes those were my dreads! I decided to enter them in the competition when I saw things line up. Those were my "most finished" dreads. Eventually the entire army will look similar to that, but more bad moony! Congrats on the 4-1!

I was happy to see so many orks in the journeyman! There was also the mega armored dude as well! I liked your blues on grukk, they were really well done. How did the judges comment on yours?

Hey greggles, we'll have to hunt each other down at Adepticon, maybe get a game in. You in one or more of the tournaments? Here's the shirt I'll be wearing most of the time.

Fantastic dude! I also have a "I'm jinking" shirt . I'm @3dgreg on twitter as well. I'm not doing any adepticon tournaments, but might be submitting a dread for paint comp (don't think I'll place, but what the heck). Mainly going to meet and hang out with bloggers and take a ton of painting classes (and take photos of all the awesome minis!).

OH, I say "go for it" on the comp. I entered something into the Crystal Brush Comp last year just to see something of mine in a glass case. No harm, no foul.

Well I'm definitely not hauling 2k points of ork walkers across the country again . Plus I'm signed up for 3 painting classes a day currently. So I'll be a bit erratic around and about.

Def agree on the painting comps. Always enter if you have any interest in painting/modeling. You almost always learn something new, and get some sweet photos of your mini!

what's your opinion on the mega dreads from forge world? Worth the money? The points?

I think they look fantastic, but I have no idea what the rules are like for them... so I'm on the fence about buying them.

Looks great. Rules? Way overcosted. I think they are 175/185 for basically an av13 deff dread with 3 hp with reroll armor or shred and a 5++.

I think they should be 4hp at that cost. Hoping new vol2. Will adjust them. I ordered a meka dread..I just love the way they look abd will run them regardless.

One cool thing about mega dread..
You can turn it into a burns dread. Supa Skorcha and double skorchas. Wish it always had fleet or ere we go

Thank you very much Dozer! I should have the 4th report up in a few days. I used most of our snow days to get the last three up, then work caught up with me .

I wish you could run dread mob + stompa, but that comes to 2005 points, so pretty much have to do unbound to run this list.

Although my Nova list drops the stompa, to take 2 units of grots, a dread mob, and mega, meka dread.
