Hey mates. Right now I am in the process of building my Black Templars Drop Pod list, however after talking to my mates, many of them beleive that I could make a more effective Black Templar themed Drop Pod list out of the Blood Angel Codex, as the Black Templars Chapter Tactic isn't that amazing as it once was. That being said, has anyone had any experience running a Blood Angel Drop Pod list? Just some simple questions:

* Would it be more effective to run a standard FOC or the Flesh Tearers FOC for a Drop Pod List?

* Are Death Company a Good fit for a Drop Pod List or should I stick with Furioso Dreadnoughts?

* is Gabriel Seth a good choice for a Warlord or would I be better off making a generic one?

* Do the BA have a Command Squad/Honor Guard choice for an HQ option?

* Other Effective Units I could use from the BA Codex in a Drop Pod List?

Appreciate the help mates.

The best things to drop on people are ASM squads with melta X 2, combi-melta; fragnoughts, and tacs with heavy flamers and maybe a combi-flamer.

Death company need to be able to assault to be effective, and they can't assault after deep striking.

I'm not familiar with Flesh Tearers as I play straight BA.

BA do have an honor guard/command squad. They can all have special weapons I believe.

To be brutally honest, Iron Hands will probably be your best bet for a Drop Pod force.

You're inherently using a lot of vehicles, and you want your troops to survive long enough to hit a second time. On top of that, you have a much wider selection of units to pull from, that would work with Pods.

For example, while I love our Furiosos, the Ironclads have higher side armour, and an AP1 CCW that's better at pegging other vehicles. On top of that, they would have IWND, which is the only chapter to have a direct benefit for vehicles.

BA's are unique in their Jump Pack Elite Assault Squads, and HQ's that boost them. If you aren't using jump packs, you might as well rock a codex chapter. You get more options and better Chapter Tactics. For example, you could have Storm Talons. That regenerate.

If you insist on doing BA pods, furioso libbies with heavy flamers make nice hq's to go along with fragiosos and tri-melta asm. Run a CAD so the two tac marine pods are obsec.

Iron hands are probably superior though, despite the loss of the furiosos.

Put Tigurius and 3 grav cents in a pod, win. Quench your thirst with the tears of your enemies crying that you win with cheese.

I would run the Flesh Tearer list for a drop pod army. You get 6 Fast Attack slots which means more ASM squads to drop in. They don't all need to be melta squads. 5 ASM with 2 gravguns and a combigrav is a nice combo to pick out a stray Riptide or WraithKnight.

I'd stick with Furiosos over Death Company

No Seth. Stick with a generic HQ or even Mephiston who's great in a pod.

The BA command squad is an elite option which competes with the Furioso.

Other units to consider might be predators in the heavy slots to sit in your deployment zone, zip to objectives back there and shoot lascannons across the board to the enemy deployment zone. Sometimes it's a waste to send a pod to cover a home objective.

Thanks for the replies so far mates. However assault marines cannot take grav guns, they can only take meltas or plasma guns, or Inferno or plasma pistols for special weapons. I could take for tactical squads each with a heavy flamer, a grav gun and a sergeant with a combi grav. Also, isn't Gabriel Seth a pretty good HQ option for what He has for his points?

Grav guns are poor on non-relentless platforms.

As above, non-relentless [ie not-bikes] units suffer from lost power when on the move with Grav. Since you must move when you deploy from a Pod... you lose out on your alpha strike power.

Plasma's still quite good, though.

Seth's a LOW, not HQ. Whenever you're coming down from a pod, you have to realize that you move slowly after you get out. So anything that moves faster than infantry that wants to get away from you, can do so. Even infantry can deny a charge by running, many times. He's good against Not-MEQ armies, but he's not impressive to me, when my opposition is 80% MEQ.

I think you'd be best off with the above recommendation of Libby Dreads, to increase your AV 13 saturation.

Ah thats right, totally forgot that Grav Guns are Salvo weapons for a sec there. If that's the case, would i be better off swapping Plasma for the Grav? I could go w/Flamers and Combi Flamers for the Tac Squads, however my Meta has a lot of Armor 2+ or High toughness units which is why I opted for Grav in the first place. And granted I know Seth is a LOW, but I can still take him as my Warlord and get another Captain to represent my Emperors Champion. Remember, I am trying to keep this as Black Templar themed as possible, so that means no Psykers in this list.
