UPDATE 02/5/17

Been a long time!
-Added Swarm Lord to my conversions
-Updated Tervigon to my new conversion.
-Removed paints for old color scheme will be updating with new information.

UPDATE 10/18

Added pictures of the painted/based Malanthrope which includes shots of my digestion pool terrain piece.

UPDATE 10/14

Added pictures of the painted Tyranid Prime. Still needs a little bit of basing. But basically done.

UPDATE 10/9

Hi everyone. I posted a couple threads so far showing my first painted model and some of my scratch built/kitbashed/conversion models. I decided I should make one blog to show off everything and update it as I go. I am hoping to receive lots of feedback as I work on this and use it to keep me motivated and on track even when I reach the more tedious parts of the project.

When I was looking for a name for my fleet I ran into a little known (and possibly not even real ::shrugs:: ) Egyptian deity. Apshai, the god of evil insects and eater of the dead. Well what would fit Tyranids better then that? The color scheme is not particularly Egyptian but then it doesn't have to be. So, meh.

Here is my Exocrine kit bash.

Spoiler:

So for starters, the torso is a Carnifex. The head is a fex with tusks with a fex spike added to the head and hive/tyrant guard scything talons added to it. (I wanted to make sure it was a very distinct head.

The tail is from a harpy/crone with more scything talons added. The rear legs are from a toxicrene, the front walking legs are tervigon with an extra section added on from some large fex scything talons. The front scything talons are the smaller pair from a fex.

The bio plasmic cannon is a rupture cannon with spikes and bits clipped off and re green stuffed into place. I used smaller venom sacs positioned around the head of the cannon to give it 6 eyes ( since the gun is the intelligent part I figure it should have some eyes. I am CRAZY proud of the way this turned out. I need to clean up some of the gs and add a little more before prime/painting but it's just awesome to me and I think reads as a exocrine, no mistake.

Here are some shots for size comparison.

And the Biovore...
Spoiler:

Made from a hive guard with some spikes added to the head from a monstrous creature venom cannon (again I want to make the heads different and distinct). A stranglethorn cannon with added armor bits for the spore mine launcher. The head crest from a fex kit added to the tail tip. Small Scything arms come from a hormagaunt.

I worked today (my day off this week) on my Malanthrope conversion. I think it came out pretty good.
Spoiler:

The tail comes from a Tervigon and the torso is a Carnifex. Together I think they give that "hunched" look that the Malanthrope is supposed to have. The arms all come from hormagaunts, I used my least favorite fex head... the one with the balls hanging off it's chin... and cut off the majority of the lower jaw. I slapped on the tentacle mouth of a toxicrene onto it. I added some vents onto the side from the Mucoloid Spore to act as vents that pump out the spore clouds. All else is green stuff work. I would love to have a shot next to another model to show size comparison, but until the GS holding the base cures it doesn't stand well without starting to slope over. Tomorrow for that!

Finished model, painted and based. BONUS! Included is a couple shots of my digestion pool terrain piece.

What do you think?

Tyranid Prime

I decided that the Tyranid Prime model made from a warrior sucks. So I made my own.

I combined some green stuff with a Spawn of Cryptus Broodlord, a couple warrior pieces, some hive tyrant hooves, some gene stealer and fex armor plates and some weapons I made into a miasma cannon.

The model can basically use tyrant arms for it's normal weapon load outs. Arms are magnatized.

Here it is!

Unpainted
Spoiler:

Painted
Spoiler:

Tervigon

I dislike any 2 Tyranids that looks too much like each other. For example, the tervigon and Tyranofex. So I made my kit into a permanent TFex and kit bashed my own tervigon. I was on a waiting list for a long time to get a Hydracast Mother of Brood ( http://hydracast.blogspot.com/p/mother-of-brood.html ). I did some small conversions including a different head, and changing the arm ends into walking legs and scything talons.

Spoiler:

Swarm Lord

Yes, it's a crap unit. But I am hoping our next codex will fix that. I got my hands on a broken FW Walkrant. I like the scything talons look better than bone swords. Honestly I don't like them holding the swords with hands. If the blades grew out of their arms it would be much better. This thing came with the talons attached and I liked them so I left them. I added a split tail, a unique center spike on the crest (original was missing) some extra armor on the top pair of arms, some mandibles made from genestealer rending claws, and some extra spike/blade ridges on the head crest reminiscent of the old metal Hive Tyrant.

Spoiler:

hey, very nice creativity in your conversions, that Malanthrope is spot on bro, very good job!!!

Is that a tervigon hip/tail piece?

welcome to the Hive, may you consume and devourer everything in your path

to help for that I would recomment a second and maybe even third flyrant, he`s our all-star, more than that is really cheesy though so try to spare your opponent the headache of taking too many of them but 2-3 in a 1500+ points game is fine and still really really strong. A second Malanthrope is also very worthwhile.

Good eye, that is a Tervigon tail. I had to shave down a bunch around the "joint" of it to get it to fit in the fex torso. I am for sure going to build a second Malanthrope down the line. I didn't want to go too heavy on the Hive Tyrants because it is so cheesy. That being said I have a FW Flyrant I got a deal on in the mail at the moment. I intend to use that one as my Warlord so he stands out more. I think 3 is enough heh.

Thank you for the compliments guys! I got the Exocrine painted and am working on painting the Malanthrope at the moment. I will post pictures of that soon. I need to kitbash my new Tervigon and I decided I want to kitbash the Prime as well to make it stand out more.

You did a fantastic job of sculpting the Malanthrope. I'm excited to see these painted up. I noticed a few of them painted black and white. Is that your color scheme?

The hive tyrant has my whole color scheme up there. Black with mechanum grey on top to give it depth. A bone color I got from army painter. Some brown I use on the weapons/hooves and I make a wash out of it to accent the bone and help the individual plates stand out. Blues for the gooey bits and some accents.

In that case, I think that you've chosen a pretty solid color scheme. I might do a sepia or brown wash on the armor plates, just to provide a little bit more depth, as it's always tough getting big, flat areas to be interesting.

Updates to my blog.

So it's been awhile since I posted anything. Partially because I didn't take pictures, partially because I haven't really been painting.. Work and all that. But I have been making a few more conversions and added some stuff to my army.

So, lets start with my painted Exocrine.

I really like how this model came out as a conversion. So I built a second one. Not painted yet.

Then I decided that the Tyranid Prime model made from a warrior sucks.

Here it is!

And finally, I dislike any 2 Tyranids that looks too much like each other. For example, the tervigon and Tyranofex. So I made my kit into a permanent TFex and kit bashed my own tervigon. I used a Mawloc chest and tail with the shell cut off the chest to fit the normal tervigon shell. 4 tervigon walking arms and a bunch of green stuff. The front arm sockets are magnetized but the GS used was stil a little soft so the arms are not on it in the pictures.

And for size comparison.

Once the model gets painted I intend to use some hot glue to make the "birthing sphincters" on it's sides all dripy and have the goop dripping off the Termagant running next to it in the size comparison picture.

I'm glad to see that you're back at it. I like the conversions you've got going, although the Trygon seems to be lacking in stability. Something about the tiptoed stance that it's in seems sort of off, for how heavy of a creature it is.

Thanks!, Yeah the Tervigon took a long time to build because I was considering a lot of different parts. There were no hoof legs that really had the right height/look. But really it came down to that one piece of Tervigon art in the codex where you see a strait on look at one. It always struck me as spidery. I was trying to shoot for that.

Updated first post with more info on my painting. An updated progress picture of my whole army and a spoiler section with my FW hive tyrant.

More updates soon with some new kit bashes and more painted models of the kitbashes.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Harpy 1

I intend to build a second with a different post.

So first, the torso is a Carnifex torso (So many uses!) with all the Harpy bits added to it. I used the Harpy head, some Hive Tyrant wings and some scything talons for the rear legs. A tervigon tail cut and turned around so it curves the opposite way.

For the base, I wanted to be able to remove it for simple storage. I filed down the fex torso spikes on the under side. Placed in a couple small magnets and added a small hole. In the base I placed 1 large magnet and a metal pole to go into the hole. It's VERY sturdy.

While this one is posed with it's wings in a downward flap, pushing it''s body back and firing down at things, the second will be posed with it's wings all the way up diving down, tail curved back behind it.

Other pictures did not come out well. I will try to get more later.

The guns are set up so I can slide on and off the different ends. They fit snug without being too tight. Just had to shave down the "stump" they slide onto a little bit.

Hi everyone! Been a very long time since I updated this. I have completely changed my color scheme long before I ever finished my army. I made 2 new conversions recently and have updated the first post with more pictures. Below is a single shot of my new paint job on my tervigon conversion and swarm lord. There are 3 shots unpainted and painted of each in the first post. I will be stripping and repainting my old conversions in the coming weeks and showing off some other work I have been up to as I have time. Hopefully updating this much more regularly now.

Good luck in the process of stripping and repainting. I've stripped and repainted 2 armies. That's the problem with improving, you want all tour models to look like they're at the best standard.

Yeah no gak lol... My color scheme has changed drastically. It needs to happen. I have been trading some of my non conversion models with people who were just getting into nids. "Here are 3 painted warriors for your NOS warriors! enjoy!"

But I cannot do that with my exocrines or biovores. They need to be stripped.
