Subject: Games Workshop, Turbo Tape Games Team For Warhammer: Arcane Magic
When you come right down to it, anything based on the Warhammer universe is best when it’s turn-based. That’s not to say that you can’t make good games using the IP in any number of genres, but turn-based strategy is something that speaks to the very heart of the original tabletop games.
While we’ve seen this idea leveraged in many different forms, Games Workshop and Turbo Tape Games have just announced another promising take. It’s called Warhammer: Arcane Magic, and it’s headed to iOS exclusively later this year.
Set during the magical storms of the Old World and Chaos Wastelands, Warhammer: Arcane Magic puts players in the boots of famous Warhammer wizards (wizards do wear boots, right?) with a selection of spell cards at their command. They’ll need them all to defeat monsters like Harpies, Bloodthirsters and Keepers of Secrets who lurk in the game’s single-player campaign.
The companies are also touting some dynamic graphics and animations that should really bring one of the more well-known fantasy universes to life.
“We’re pleased to have this opportunity to bring the Warhammer: Arcane Magic world to iOS, and we know for a fact that a smaller screen can still deliver an epic experience,” Turbo Tape Games CEO Fredrik Sundt Breien said in a press release. “We’re confident players will notice minutes after starting the game that we went ‘all-in’ when making Warhammer: Arcane Magic. Above all else, we’re Warhammer fans!”
No word on multiplayer, though it sure sounds like it would be a good fit for battles against live opponents as well. Take a gander at the announcement trailer below, and watch this space for more news on the game as it gets closer to release.

This month has been quite a hectic one, and has included painting up these three monsters for Turbo Tape Games, a Norwegian computer game company that is working with a Warhammer license.
I know that the Ghorgon is being used as a prize in a promotional launch competition for Turbo Tape Games' iOS game Warhammer: Arcane Magic. Here's the promotional text from the Arcane Magic site:
Turbo Tape Games is pleased to announce a contest for an exclusive Ghorgon miniature hand-painted by Dave Taylor! The Ghorgon is a many-limbed, ox-headed slaughterer, possessed of an urgent need to devour and destroy anything it can catch -- and there are more than 60 individual skulls making up this Ghorgon model that had to be painted separately. Painter Dave Taylor has been working in the wargaming industry since 1994. Through his production studio, Dave Taylor Miniatures, Dave has built, converted and painted thousands of miniatures for a variety of games. To participate in the contest, please visit arcanemagicgame.com
Head to the site, click on the widget in the right and follow the instructions. This competition is open to most folks around the globe, and it would be super cool if the winner was also a regular reader of this blog : )
I leave you with a few shots of the Gorgon you could win : )
